Most powerful moment of the game for me. Actually the most powerful moment in any game in my opinion. And the very fact that we finally were able to reach Meteion with a flower, and by summoning Hermes (who finally gets his answer and redemption as he understands his long sought after purpose in life was to raise a child) says so much about the humanity behind this story.
“Come with us, Meteion.” 💯💯💯 What incredible writing. At first in Elpis, I wanted to protect this precious bird girl. Then, in Ultima Thule, I was terrified of her. Ultimately, I realized that she was scared and in despair herself and had been given an understandable but misguided assignment from Hermes. All for a character we just met in one expansion.
Meteion utterly broke my heart, and it’s why I loved Endwalker’s story so much. The final boss was not an evil monster, it was a scared little girl. It completely subverted everyone’s expectations, which is why some people still have problems processing it, but the storytelling was utterly beautiful
“Upon your return, I will gift you a beautiful flower.” Gets me every time. The WoL, Emet, and Hythlo finally gave her a gift of hope and a field of flowers at her journey’s end 😭😭😭🥺❤️
Hermes was the real villain. Creating a being a pure emotion and sending her clones/sisters out on a death journey to satisfy his own curiosity...and the latest short stories show he didn't really care when one of them died, only that he wasn't getting the answers he was expecting. For all his posturing about the importance of a life, he created the Meteia to be wholly expendable in his search for the meaning of life.
I wouldnt say a "little girl" more so a hive mind that essentially wants only good for humanity but it doesnt understand them exactly. Meteion is kind of a victim of this, its not really her desire it is the decision of their unity.
There's so much amazing dialogue in this expansion that made me feel so many emotions, but I don't know why Meteion's "After all, miracles happen every day, do they not?" gets me almost crying every time.
Because until now, Meteion didn't believe in miracles. She didn't know hope. But we've shown her that miracles and hope are the way forward and she believes with all her heart.
This changed me. Forever. Every piece of media I watch/play/read/experience that makes me happy or sad, I see it now from the context of this encounter. It changed the way I experience and process my own life. Every bit of happiness, every bit of suffering, I can only think of Meteion. Every time I watch something that gives me these emotions, i come to rewatch this scene again. I just finished Love, Victor and was crying (from happiness and the drama-filled bittersweet sadness upon the journey), and could only think of Meteion talking about gathering little bits of happiness, precious and fragile, only to lose them again, and on on it goes until deaths takes you in its gentle embrace. This encounter and Venat's cutscenes about finding hope and everlasting life in deepest despair. And how suffering can make us strong, how we can find hope even in the lowest points. They've changed me forever. Thank you Venat, and Meteion, and the FFXIV writing team. This is true art. FFXIV is the greatest story ever told.
The greatest miracle isn't that the WoL saves Meteion; it's that Meteion held onto hope for such a long time as to be saved. A normal person would've been beyond aid after a fraction of the time.
I BAWLED LIKE A BABY when she turned back blue. Finding hope again after being lost for so long in despair. Hope that one day, the universe would be full of life again.
This whole Elpis Bloom sequence cemented FF14 as the greatest game I've ever played. Every little patch or full scale expansion brought layers upon layers to make you reconsider the whole story. All of it leading up to this moment where the solution to it all, is to summon a field of flowers to fight against despair, and save a scared little girl who has been trapped in sorrow for thousands of years. A bit of that cheerful Meteion has always been there, somewhere, waiting for someone to reach for her. Beyond the epic battles fought, beyond the grand tale of loss, fire and pain, it is the little details, and the humanity of its story, when you're standing there at the end of all things, that makes this a life changing experience.
Metion's greeting in the final cutscene is so important: it's practiced, mechanical. Something she has said so often and with so little success that it only brings her sorrow.

A song of the newfound joy that swells in my heart-- Of the beauty of light when it shines across a dark and starless sea. Of a dream that from the soil of worlds now lost to sorrow, life will spring forth once more... Nourished by gentle rains and caressed by uplifting winds. A song of hope.
I do wonder what will happen with Meteion going forward? She is one of the last living ancients so that could be important. She may have interest in Labyrinthos due to the Elpis flowers there, or she may connect with Nidhana given that Nidhana studies akasa/dynamis. I don't think we are by any means done with dynamis yet, and if so Meteion could be crucial to that plot.
@@TheLQGaming i think she will be one of the main characters for the future story, like Alphinaud level of main character. Twins grow so much for their journey, and they have their own paths now. Pay attention at line on 7:49 "...you will learn from those you meet. Learn to walk and run and so much more" and camera directly staring at our character. I really think it's a big foreshadowing of events to come. Also there is a line in Hydaelyn last scene (after trial) in wich she asks WoL to teach Meteion a brighter life.
@@artemj1 there is also a cool little theory that Venat always tells us to Hear feel and think and meteion wants to hear our words share our feelings and know our thoughts. there is a theory that venat wanted us to take those words so we could show meteion peace.
@@wazzupz2244 Nobody we met was useless. We have saved countless lives but the ones we lose hurt all the same because they all mean something. Wanna know something silly? If I'm ever in Camp Drybone or Eastern Thanalan I always make a point to visit Minfilia's grave and do a /pray out of respect. When I visit the Doman Enclave I think of Tsuyu and old man Gosetsu or I travel to Zenith in the Churning Mists and contemplate about Ysayle. So it's not for not, for those we have lost right?
I don't know why but I can see dark meteion sadness and suffering. Even if she wants to ends us, she still devastated like she doesn't want to do it yet she has no choice. I hope she will return on our next adventure, not as the bird, but on that child form.
Because she *doesn't* want to do it indeed. But she lost her individuality to the rest of the meteia. I mean, back in Elpis she begs us to protect Hermes right before lost her personallity and the meteia "robotic report" begins, like if that sort of hive mind swallowed her consciousness (in the end, at Ktisis Hyperborea, she turned black like them too). Here, the memory of the elpis blooms and Hermes promise broke that "jail" where her consciousness was so she ask the same thing she asked us first time she comunicated with us "Can you hear me... ?" and tries to comunicate how much pain she feels, sorrow, so many souls hurting... and as soon she begins again to be swallowed by her sisters she begs us again to stop them "Please, silence our song of Oblivion!". She doesn't want to hurt anyone but she is powerless to fight the rest of the meteia's will. And finally, when the Endsinger takes form because of the impossibility to understand our determination, her consciousness manages to get free again . That little blue bird begging her to stop hurting us is her. Again, powerless to do anything. It's just so sad to see her try so hard, my heart was hurting :( poor little sweet girl.
So the end of the ascians was caused by a pet bird girl they made. She was more power than all the ascians. She uses a totally new power system we never knew about and the cause of everything? Well she got depressed that space is empty.
A tear animation when she fell to her knees in combination with the music and all of this..... Regardless , the first time i watched this in msq was without music and it was sad alright , but with the music it literally broke my heart
The fact that the visuals are so poor in this game now because of its age and it’s still one of the strongest scenes I’ve ever seen just because of pure story telling alone is amazing. The entire team makes up for the short comings in that area with music and story telling. All of the things they can’t accurately display are shown in other ways with words and sound that but just as hard

I have seen MMORPGs evolve since the first with Ultima Online. Final Fantasy 14 was supposed to save the genre. Instead, they stuck to the flawed definition of what a MMORPG should be. Making the same mistakes every MMORPG has made before them. The most common is to require an unreasonable amount of time to obtain the best gear in the game. To get to the very end of the game is something most will never accomplish in most MMORPGs. Every competitive PvP in every MMORPG is 95% wallet gamers who bought their success. Gamers do not quantify what is reasonable. Nor due they quantify what it took for them to get to where they are. So the word grind is used to define the amount of time it took to reach that point.
@@lanceknightmare 1-Who cares about gear? You don't need the best gear in FFXIV aside from current super hard battles. The grind is not obligatory. And after an expac comes out, they throw at you all the gear that previously required to grind. So, why do you grind? It's your choice. I have 1500 hours and never grinded for absolutely anything. 2-You can't buy PVP stuff in FFXIV. And the PVP itself is so chilled I don't even know if gear actually has any effect in Crystal Conflict... What the fuck are you talking about, my friend? Yes, the game is not revolutionary. It never wanted to be. It clearly is a simplified and less grindy version of a standard MMO with a good story. It's literally its selling point. They never said they wanted to revolutionize anything.
@@The_Catman Content which is not completable without said armor is obligatory unless you want to miss out. The concept of certain content not being playable has become such a regular concept. Players have just decided to accept it. Define what is reasonable for you.
@@lanceknightmare man, superbosses in RPGs always required time. Single players too. And it's not obligatory. You can learn the fights so well you don’t need perfect gear. TOP has been cleared without a fucking healer for god's sake. All the MSQ can be completed wearing a pijama. Regular raids and trials too. It's just superbosses. Hard challenges for people who like to invest time and effort for a goal for the sake of it. Yes, there are people who like the process. There are people who enjoy it. And these fights are so secondary to the main content they are contextualized as non canonical crazy remixes of normal fights in what ifs scenarios. You can literally ignore them, as I do. They are not even unique content They are literally an "hard mode" for normal fights everyone can do with the gear the MSQ itself gives you to play them. You don’t know what you are talking about I honestly think you are trolling.
