Another great hangout! Love all the extremely rare meteorites the guests have shown. I specially enjoyed Maxime's segment and I've started using Pat Brown's trick with cross-polarized reflected lighting. Just one suggestion - white is not the best backdrop for showing off your meteorites. It messes with the camera auto-exposure and makes most of the meteorites too dark. It would be better to have a medium gray background that's a better match to meteorites 'albedo'.

It looks like I have found a LL4 in large quantities. I am located in Alabama on The Dog River. I have been using the largest one to stand on for pain in my foot that I had broken. The healing properties are very real.
@TopherspinMeteorites
@TopherspinMeteorites 9 месяцев назад
It's intriguing that you've found a potential LL4 meteorite, but I'd recommend having it analyzed by a meteorite expert or laboratory to confirm its identity. While some people attribute healing properties to meteorites, scientific evidence supporting such claims is limited at best. Nonetheless, meteorites are fascinating, and proper identification can provide valuable insights into the history of our solar system.

That's not a brown lump! It's a massive surface that's probably hiding really cool stuff if you explored it under a microscope! I went into the Carnegie Science Center a few years back and found all kinds of stuff hiding in the folds and spirals. I would love to see macros and micrographs. Today I was looking at another rock, one I collected from along the path of the 1938 Chicora bolide, and whether or not it's a real meteorite, the dynamic nature of this thing at 30-80x is thrilling - and today I found a beyond tiny sky-blue spherule, stuck in a blackened line that look like dendrites - which I was told would cancel out a stone as being meteoritic - but then again, NASA did this microgravity experiment... Anyway, they are *and* are not exactly like dendrites. The line flows on the surface like flow lines on crust - maybe all that's left of the deep divide between two pieces that popped off on entry... or ....something? But there you are with a known meteorite and you're calling it a brown lump? Let me at it!🙏

Please tell me how long does it take for an unclassified angrite meteorite to be classified and have a laboratory certificate.
@TopherspinMeteorites
@TopherspinMeteorites 2 года назад
It absolutely totally depends on the importance of the meteorite. If it's a witnessed fall or carbonaceous it will get classified much quicker. Right now standard lead time on a chondrite is about 7 months.
@hamdihamdi762
@hamdihamdi762 2 года назад
15 days remain and enter the 9th month the stone is still in the micro probe. He meant the oxygen analysis. This is really not a sign of fall, so it may have exceeded 7 months, although it is known as the angrite meteorite, but there is no problem with patience, beautiful, thank you, wonderful man
