Here in South Florida, USA. For runs from curb to structure Verizon used a cable that included 1 single fiber strand, fiberglass and roughly 18g steel cable. It’s rigid enough for direct burial or burial by vibratory trench without conduit. the cable also includes modular jacks on each one for connections to the fiber tab at curb.

Interesting. Does that supply a good connection? Two things to be said (GM POV) Using an microduct will allow maintenance and upgrades rather easy as the “pathway” will be there for decades to come. The steel ideally shouldn’t be combined with fiber optics (Risk of lightning, currents of electricity and so on) However, there are many ways to reach FTTH. All, both network owners and the supplying industry, claims to know the “truth”. Well, it not as easy as that. The important thing is to establish a long life and easy to maintain system. Br. @@GM_Plast Generally fiber-optic wiring needs a metal wire running along it so that it can easily be located before digging in the area, a thin steel wire is easily located and marked while fiber-optic wiring contains no metal and can't be detected with a metal detector. Lightning is a non-issue for wiring that runs underground and that might possibly run a couple meters (2m = 6ft for @Jonathan_O and others in the USA) up the side of the building - there will be other things such as metal chimney caps, eavestroughs, and other building components at a higher height that will be much more susceptible to lightning

@@plur90 Right! Often we will on demand add an trace wire into the bundle of ducts. Then you can also through detetction determine distance between manholes/termination points or/and depth. However, often this will be ignored by the purchaser or other parties involved in the rool out as their argument is that it add to the cost and they need more euipment. That argument isnt really valid as time (and digging) saved will be such a pay off that the few extra cents are more than paid off. TC/total cost isnt always king.....

So when you deploy such a tube with fiber, what's the fiber type and how many cables are in there ? What's the capacity usually?

The fiber type is microcable. This typically comes in sizes from Ø 1,5 to Ø 12-13. and is usually being used in a microdct in the range from Ø5/3,5 up to Ø20/16 (outside diameter and inside diameter). See our playlist with fiberblowing as there is a lot of fact and figures. Br. GM Plast

28:50 What is the durability of such connection - it does not look very robust. Also wouldn't dirt and huminity enter the microtube at longterm since the junction is apparently not protected anyhow in the soil?

The durability is eminent. Think about it. The Ø110/50 and Ø40 commonly used has a wall thickness that comparable is much less than a microduct where most of the sizes has a wall thickness of 2 mm. The micoduct systems being used today are built on up to 20 yrs. trial and error. The contracting being used to install the smaller system is also much less intrusive and occurrences with damaging other infrastructure will be rarer. We purposely have all these “real” videos and do not use animations and other fancy communication. We want to show the “real” stuff from the “real” work situation. About sturdiness. Why yes, RU-vid, I would like to watch a series of videos on how to deploy a fibre optic network which will occupy over 2 hours of my life. What? No I don't work for an ISP or anything to do with laying pipe in the ground, why do you ask? 🤣 Seriously though, Just had the main pipework layed up our street for fibre, so it's interesting to see the process and the ways it gets installed. Just got to wait for them to pipe from the splitter cab to the building now, only 15 ft away from 1gbit fibre! :).

Yes. RU-vid is a place to gain both insight and go into details with subjects that sometimes had been unknown to you until the moment you came in touch with it. 24:40 most of Austria like "Oh, I know we just installed gas or remote heating, and I know we totaly forgot to lay pipes for fiber. So we are sorry, but digging up the road again is only viable in 30 years, when the road is bad again or if someone else needs to dig it up." 1 year later someone else digs it up. "Oh shit, we forgot again. We are so so so sorry. Maybe next time." Or: "If the street is dug up the next time talk to your city council, they will tell us that the street is opened up and we will lay fiber." City like: "That's not our problem, you have to talk to the ISP."

To avoid rocks, stones and other sharp objects that may introduce damage to the microducts. A top layer of sand on top of the microduct bundle is the correct start of back filling

Hi there. About backfilling. The materiel to be used should fulfill these demands: • Particles over 16 mm must not occur • Particles between 8-16mm may at the most be 10 % of the material • The material must not be frozen • Sharp materials must not be used. Either fine earth or sand is to be preferedIf this is being observed everything should be just fine Br. GM Plast

People within engineering and contracting take pride in being openminded and looking for new ways to work. However, the same people are bound by a lot of habit thinking and regulations made by someone that often does not have much practical practice. So, navigating in such matters is not always so easy. The videos are uploaded by us to enable people that are involved in such matters to see what is possible and how it can be done. We hope that the videos can be spurring dialogue and exchange of opinions and ideas. So maybe we as a supplier into the market can facilitate ideas and “best practice” work

@@dmccormack1966 Dude you must live in a cave because trenching and micro-ducting has been in the UK a few years. It's the primary and probably only method of blowing and delivering fibre for new builds.

Hmm. I have to correct you slightly on this matter. Our products are in use on Greenland, Iceland, North America. Above the polar circle both in Sweden and Norway. Also alpine regions in the Alps, Pyrenees, and other places with high altitudes (thus frost and snow in the winter). Maybe try to be more specific in this matter and we may be able to show and demonstrate functionalities and abilities
