@@fedjamagga8385 In the beginning of the game, Adam says something about the contract not being worth the risk. So that means the Federation offered her a bounty. I was hoping that there would be a reveal that the EMMI units were made specifically to hunt her down. I don't think it's a coincidence that everyone of them was immune to her own weapons and they had some of her abilities.
I love it. Samus was not corrupted by stupid western sociopolitical sensibilities, no talking feelings in hallways or cafes. She's a woman of action and few words if any at all.
@@Jitterzz speaking of Bluetooth, am I the only one having the issue when I connect Bluetooth headphones to my house TV i get like a whole second of delay added to my switch
Some might call it lazy fan service, but I do appreciate the fact that Samus's theme always finds a way to make it into almost every game, like the Metroid version of the Star Wars opening crawl.
Yeah I'm glad It takes two got it's time to shine, I'm just glad Metroid was even nominated at all, it's been a decently niche franchise for a while and I'm glad it's finally getting some well deserved attention.
@@nagi9990 It has little callbacks for longtime players, but it’s very accessible for new people. You can definitely play it as your first Metroid game
For people arguing in the comments: This is the official name of the song. It's "Theme of Samus Aran", the music at the end of Super Metroid when you're escaping Zebes is "Theme of Samus Aran, Space Warrior". It is also the main theme for Super Metroid, but its current official name is Theme of Samus Aran.
Actually, "Theme of Samus Aran, Space Warrior" in Super Metroid was a different track from the version we know today. It played when you returned to Crateria about midgame. The one we know was called "Theme of Super Metroid".
It's funny... I know this song was envisioned as "The Theme of Super Metroid," kind of an overture to the game itself, and Samus had her own track that was intended to be her theme in that same game, but... I've always much more closely associated this track with Samus.
@@Da_Puff I haven't played dread in a while but it was more plot relevant in this game that she's the last metroid. Plus it's more potent with her actually going full Metroid at the end.
Just gonna geek out for a second and SPOILERS AHEAD: Hearing Samus speak in Chozo was such a perfect way to bring back a voice for Samus. Remember, the last time we really heard her speak was in Other M. It left a bad taste in the fandom's mouth. Hearing an iconic theme, the plea of one who has suffered, and a voice that is reassuring, yet serious and determined, speak in a sci-fi ancient language. And best of all, her words are... Well, if you played the game... You know.
It also explains why she's generally so quiet most of the time, we don't often see her get to talk to Chozo directly, I do wonder if she also knows the Federation's common language or if she just has a reliable translator, or, probably both
@@UNSCPILOT Oh she can most certainly speak whatever qualifies as “basic”. I personally see Samus as being a highly observant, detail oriented introvert. She prefers to take her time in social situations and process and digest all the little details before commenting.
Won't lie, when I also heard the orchestra version from the Games Award 2021, I got the biggest smile listening to it. Though it didn't win GotY, still glad it's got nominated even winning best Action Adventure category.
Super Metroid was one of the very first games that I ever played, I was about 6 or so. It was one of my most played video games. So imagine the nostalgia trip that I felt and I'm sure many others felt when they boot(ed) up Metroid Dread and this is what they heard
Thank you, Quiet Robe, for the explanation of the secret Chozo Memory from Samus Returns. Now to take out that bastard Raven Beak…after I get all of the items before confronting him.
I just started this game today and this shit got me so fucking emotional. It seems so surreal that we're finally getting Metroid 5. The next big 2D Metroid. I'm just ecstatic this is happening. Love this franchise to bits.
Bro same, I straight up started crying when it opened the intro card to this, with Samus talking about what happened last time and then getting the mission briefing. Just like old times man.
How? A despite having several enhancements in a suit she still has to run from clankas who can't even shoot guns, because 'Noooo, I don't have my Omeeega Weapons, boo hoo'. TOTTFIY stops playing only to queue E1M1... Or BFG Division.
@@Neko_Medic Exactly. One who is badass is always badass despite the circumstances. Like Slayer from DOOM Eternal, where nothing holds him back from beating the whole game in hardest difficulty with just a pistol. Of course it take far too long, but it is possible. Or are you thinking EMMIs are stronger than Marauders? You are the one who is indirectly stating that Metroid protagonist is better than DOOM protagonist.
@@proghostzgamecreed6555 by the standars of the series, emmis are stronger than samus for most of the story. and being able to push forward despite being in clear disadvantage is much more badads than completely dominating also doomguy was overwhelmed at least twice (end of doom's 1st episode and backstory of 2016) also lets not forget Samus has destroyed multiple planets, countless space pirates, at least one entire dimension, etc. Samus has done as much as the slayer, possibly more.
@@Neko_Medic Possibly more? Now you are being jerk. He literally obliterated Satan himself, who is the evilest being of all creation. DOOMGuy wasn't overwhelmed he was betrayed. DOOMGuy has fought Quadrillions of Billions of Millions demons for God knows how long, and those are not some 'Ara Ara anime demon' those bastards can rip intestines and make sweaters from them. Do you really think that a group of space bandits or Metroids could be compared to armies of hell? And you cannot push forward until you resoooooolve that EMMI problem. So, your 'badads' thingy invalid there too. You are saying like "Oh! look at that rebel scum who almost headshoted Darth Vader if hadn't deflected his blaster and killed him with that same shot. He is so badads." Of course, Samus is badass, so is Blazkowicz, Gordon Freeman, Chell, Commander Shepard, Bastila Shan, Boba Fett, The Scout, Heavy Weapons Guy, Link, You, Johnny Silverhand, Dante, Vergil, Ryu, Ken, Scorpio, Raiden, Subzero, Orchid, Cinder, Sam Fisher, Solid Snake, Ezio, Altair, Master Chief, Noble Six. But DOOMGuy is just more badass than anyone except God.
Since this plays over Samus' opening narration, too, I like to imagine this blares every time she explains what's been up with her, no matter how mundane.
*theme plays* "Hey Adam, just checking in at this nav station to let you know they don't have any blueberry bagels at Target so I ended up getting just regular bagels. Hope that's okay with you cause I know you like the blueberry kind. Anyway what kind of chips should I get"
“..The Grid.. A digital frontier: I tried to picture clusters of information as they moved through the computer. What did they look like..? Ships..? Motorcycles? Were the circuits like freeways? .. I kept dreaming of a world I thought I'd never see, And then.. One day.. I got in...!”
It made me very happy to hear such an awesome callback. I really hope it sticks around going forward as the definitive “Samus Theme” that anyone can identify with the character, Metroid has a noticeable lack of prominent reoccurring music apart from the “You got an Upgrade” and “Game Start” jingles but I’d love to see a day where this song is on par with the Mario or Zelda main themes for their iconicity.
Spoilers: I loved when it showed the map and it unlocked a new path like a major point of the game has been opened (kinda like when Tourian got opened)

That's what all we are here desired to find, no matter the name. Thanks!
I watched a Games Done Quick Speedrun of Fusion from 5/6 years ago, and one of the couch commentator went "how about Dread?" I hope that guy played it and love it
you don't know how big of a grin I had on my face when this theme played as the game opened up retiling us about samus wiping out both the metroid's and the x parasites race
Kids in the 80‘s calling her Metroid sure feel validated now. The Metroids haven‘t died. The last one is not in captivity and instead is on a mission to save the Galaxy. See you next Mission, Samus!
I am not sure but wasn't it Lore that Samus was raized by the chozo? or had something to do with them? I really don't know but I expected her to understand him. but was surprised when she spoke
@@fabi3790 Yep, she was born on a human colony where Ridley and his space pirates raided and killed everyone but her. The Chozo picked her up and infused her with their own DNA so she could survive on the harsh conditions of Zebes, and they gave her the Power Suit and trained her to be a warrior.
