Prime Remastered is basically the Switch version of Prime 1. Hopefully Nintendo makes a remaster of Prime 2, Prime 3, and maybe even Prime Hunters. 100-percented Prime, ran into difficulties against the Alpha Blogg in Prime 2, played the demo version of Prime Hunters, and have not played Prime 3.
@@corbinselanne7990 yeah I know - I’m playing through Prime Remastered right now myself. It’s REALLY solid, right down to the gyro control implementation. While I still think it’s a tad overpriced, I do think it is absolutely worth the money. I’m definitely up for playing Prime 2 and 3 again if they give them the same treatment too
fusion's story is somewhat lost in translation. the english ver tells us the whole federation is behind the bad deeds and acts we see but the japanese version states its a rogue faction of it. this is why in dread the federation isnt after her and they seem to be in good relations Edit: it's also worth noting Samus having chozo DNA has been a thing since zero mission. However her having raven beak's was a thread introduced in dread.

Bonus fun facts is the animals will sing out the item acquisition jingle around when they demonstrate the technique and that popular charity runs of Super will have the audience bid on whether the runner should "save the animals" since they actually are trapped on a tangent route during the escape sequence.

You seem to be under the impression that AM2R hasn't already had the banhammer applied to it, because it can still be downloaded. Nintendo already hit the original team with a lot of legal threats, but the finished product was already in players' hands and they proceeded to make a million mirrors of it to spite Nintendo. As far as Nintendo's concerned, they've already done due diligence smashing the project and the fact that its still available is simply something they can't control.
Playing in the 80s part of the fun was drawing your own map as you went. Being able to compare maps with friends to see what secrets each of you found was a big part of what made it such a favorite I think. Not many other games were exciting to talk about the same way.
In the last 30 years, there is one game which has made me bust out a notebook: The Witness. My ex found it and thought I was schizophrenic- if you’ve played the game you’ll understand… I drew a lot of lines man 😐
To add to this, the manual for the original NES version encourages you to draw a map so you don't get lost. Metroid II didn't really need a map because you were basically always headed down. And why does nobody ever mention Crystal Flash in Super Metroid? The game shows this technique and others if you don't do anything at the title screen for a little bit.
In Metroid 2 you missed a few shortcuts during the play. I can honestly say probably used the spider ball on almost every ceiling to see what else was hidden. I love that I actually found stuff.
I used to play Metroid II all the time. I want to say my best time was 1:37 but sub 2 hours was the norm. Never played the others as a kid. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
1:20:40 You misunderstand the canon of Metroid. The 2D series and the Prime games take place in the same universe. The timeline is: Metroid, the entire Prime Trilogy, Metroid 2, and then Super, Other M, Fusion, and finally Dread. Ridley was revived as a cyborg in Prime 1 following his defeat in the first game, his body, however, is capable of full regeneration, so over time his entire organic body regrew, so by the of Metroid 2 he's lost a lot of his cybernetics, and shed the last of them in the brief time between Metroid 2 and Super Metroid. ALSO, you NEED to read the official Metroid Manga, everything up to the final chapter, which abridges the events of Metroid 1, are 100% canon and have been referenced repeatedly throughout the series. Do note that the manga was released as a companion piece to Zero Mission, being published around that game's release, it builds off of and retells Samus's backstory as it was loosely established in manuals and Nintendo Power comics that came out around Metroid 1 and Super Metroid's releases. Just to make the canonicity of the manga clear, the chozo seen in the flashback in Zero Mission is a character _from_ the manga, and the drawing Samus leaves on the mural depicts her, that same chozo, and one other chozo from the manga. The naming scheme for the chozo also originates in the manga, the two new chozo introduced in Dread follow the same structure with their names. Raven Beak's second phase is also a _direct_ reference to information about the Chozo touched on in the manga, it encapsulates his desire for the Chozo to return to what he considers their peak of greatness.

You missed one tiny but amazing detail in Metroid: Dread, after you wake up, ADAM stops calling you Lady, and calling your Samus instead, hinting right from the start that ADAM wasn't what it seemed

You know, for Metroid 6, I do hope that Samus gains control over her Metroid DNA and unlock a grab move to siphon a small amount of energy from enemies.
There are a few tutorials for advanced techniques like shinesparking and wall jumping in super Metroid and those are softlocks if you don't get them done correctly, I'm talking about sections with the alien monkeys and Ostrich.
Dude... Metroid Prime with the Wii controllers is baller. Once you get used to it, it was far smoother than using normal controllers. Honestly, VR games need to emulate how they did it.

Awesome video!! An interesting difference between our experience is that I started out playing the 3 prime games first before trying super metroid and the others after. It is interesting to see how our opinions about Metroid form around that first experience
I never played a 2D Metroid game so it's interesting to learn what it looked like and how most of the series' core concepts were developed for such a limited format. It also puts into persepective how massive an achievement it was to make the series into a 3D game and furthermore do such a fantastic job at keeping the vibe of the original while improving on it. One thing I thought when I saw the part about the young Metroid was how cool it would be if you could have one as a pet in 3D and use it to help you battle or solve puzzles. I always thought they were cute creatures and it's such a shame that you need to kill them because they are aggressive. About Other M, I remember being excited about the game only to discover that all the things I liked in the Prime games were nowhere to be found. Maybe by itself the game wasn't bad and I can certainly respect the intention to reinvent the genre, but to me it simply paled in comparison to the Prime games in every regard. About Hunters, its worth for me was its multiplayer mode. I remember when I was in highschool there were always kids playing with their DS between classes and we would do wireless 4 player matches. The way you could chose different hunters with unique abilities to battle your friends in well designed maps in fast paced team deathmathes and on a handheld console that only required you to be near to join wirelessly was such a unique and fun experience.
I’m happy I was able to help provide context and I’m happy to hear this series has given you so much joy, even in a game like Hunters which was only on my radar as “the Prime game I played at a Best Buy kiosk a couple times” - I knew I wouldn’t be the guy to go in depth on that one or pinball, but I’m happy to hear that you have fond memories of it 🍻

i grew up on the first Metroid on NES. me and my friends played it more than anything else. the gender reveal at the end literally BLEW our 8 y.o. minds. still remember the night i watched my friend beat mother brain and escape up the gauntlet fast enough for the first time (if u didnt get out in time, no zero suit. u gotta beat the game all over again w ur clothes on and try again). Metroid 2 was the first game i got for my game boy (that free bundled Tetris shit such a bummer). my whole mind exploded to find Metroid 2 was a fully fleshed out 'next gen(?)' Metroid sequel that was better than the first. and nowadays as an old af gamer god i see concepts and mechs lifted straight outta the OG Metroid & old skool nes titles all the time in new games - i.e. playing thru Elden Ring (FromSoft in general) this spring i found constant direct quotes from the 1st Zelda (not complaining). Samus and the Metroid lore are s-tier iconic Nintendo. mario and link can both get fucked. theyre for babies

I use Citra in conjunction with SpaceDesk and a Surface Pro. With it, I can put the lower 3DS screen on the Surface Pro and use the Pro as a touchscreen while the upper screen goes to my big screen TV. Makes 3DS gaming very feasible.

11:14 this is actually explained the chozo flooded the planet in lava to trap the Metroids when you defeat them the area gets rendered as cleaned so the lava automatically lowers
@@sometf2player752 oh that I know, I do cover that in the Samus Returns section, but my intention was to analyze each game individually, chronologically, so that I can highlight things like say, plot points which were unclear in an earlier game, which were then clarified in a sequel or remake. Likewise with Zero Mission, I state that her being raised by the Chozo is hinted at in the ending, even though I already knew about the gene splicing stuff in Dread. Because at the time Zero Mission was released, those manga images were all we got in the game. I was informed there was a tie in manga in the comments (which explains where those images came from), but it was only released in Japan and ultimately, I was looking at the primary sources (the games) and was mostly consulting secondaries for stuff like interviews with Sakamoto. While that is meta information, it’s directly to do with the design of the games, not the narrative. Massively high-effort video I really enjoyed. It's funny how different some of my takes are. I found NEStroid *much* harder to navigate with its copy-and-paste room layouts than Metroid 2. I found the least well-aged part of Super was actually the control scheme more than anything else (there is a ROM hack for it), and I'm an unrepentant hater of Other M's story. Nonetheless your passion for the franchise is clear and a nice reminder of why I remain hungry for more of it from Nintendo. And a slight kick in the pants to go get into my still-untouched copy of Prime Remastered.
Zebes seems to me like an attempt to Japanize the Anglicized word for Greek city-state Thebes. Its a common trope in sci fi to name places after Greek and Roman locations or mythologies, and the English diagraph th- is frequently Japanized with Z sounds. There are two general methods one can use to transliterate between Latin script and Japanese. You can imitate the sound of the word and write it out based on pronunciation, or you can transliterate the spelling verbatim and sound out that word based on your local sensibilities. In the former case, you might get "Zibusu" and in the latter you'd get "Zebesu" I don't feel like googling what the official katakana spelling of Zebes is, but I feel like literally any combination of pronunciations would be perfect acceptable from one point of view or another. Language is a fluid thing, particularly when its being filtered down across cultures for centuries.
Those creatures in samus's ship never hinted that they were X immune they were just not affected by the X parasite they were clean they were cleared of any infection
the Other Maxximum hack has a cheat code included that allows missles to be used in third person so you dont need pointer controls for anything but grapple. its compatible with the main game and not just the hack
Yeah I agree with you with the way critics review Nintendo games. Automatically every Mario is a 10/10 and full of innovations, if is a Zelda it'll be a masterpiece. They know that if they give them a 99.99 score, Nintendo fanboys will cry. And they cry really loud.
It’ll keep happening and kind of does with PlayStation exclusives (or at least the ultra-realistic-graphics-over-the-shoulder-movie-game ones), which is why I feel the only true solution is to disregard the numbers and look at what the reviewer/analyst actually writes about the game. You can slap any number you want at the bottom of the review, but if the observations aren’t there to back it up, you can almost guarantee it’s a fanboy/hater who made up their mind before they pressed Start

TheGamingBritShow did several videos that cover why Other M is a train wreck (from what I remember they were good). Other M contradicts with the characterisation from previous games. I feel if you wanted a story of a more vulnerable Samus you needed to set it much earlier in the time line. Maybe you could make it work at the end of the timeline but it would be really difficult to do it well.
I'll check it out, but pulling from my first hand experience playing all of the games within the span of about 4 months, then going back and playing some of them for second, third and even fourth times (in the case of Dread), I don't agree that there is any contradiction in Other M. You could argue that Samus functions better as an avatar than as an actual character, but even badass have emotions and vulnerabilities. Exploring Samus' vulnerability and notably, her respect for Adam and his sorrow over losing him, enforces his role in Fusion and Dread after it. Thanks for the feedback regardless

@@MarcTheCyborg I would compare Other M to the recent Boba Fett TV series. A character who has arguably minimal characterisation in the original is then acting completely out of character in a sequel. I guess that Other M is how Sakamoto may have viewed the character since the beginning but there just wasn't much he could do to convey that in the games. I think by the time Other M came out the Prime trilogy had pretty much cemented her character to the point that most long-time fans found the game jarring.
Maybe you should give another shot of metroid prime hunter on a nds / 3ds. The controls take a bit of time to accomodate, but in the end it's pretty similar to kid icarus on 3ds. My main complain on this game is the graphics that are especially bad on a XL console because of the nds limitations. I think overall etroid prime hunter is an ok game. Some boss fights are great, some (like the pillars) litterally are copy/pastes with little upgrades. There's also a multiplayer game mode where you can play as the other bounty hunters. Each bounty hunter gets a bonus on their prefered weapon: samus has a bonus on missiles, i remember the red hunter becoming invisible while standing still with the plasma beam (i forgot the others)

Also I'm a big Metroid fan and this is the first time I've ever heard someone call it the "Ultra-Jump" instead of a shinespark, but I did get into the series with Metroid Prime and Fusion. I did have Metroid II on the Gameboy Color before that, which helps a lot with the color issues you mentioned, but anyway maybe terminology was different for the shinespark back then as I didn't get to Super Metroid until it was on the Wii Shop channel.
