I am a mets fan and the yankee fan caller is right: signing a 40 year old who is no longer in his prime by throwing insane money is not the same as acquiring a big time free agent in their prime. And BT is right too that it seems unclear what the mets strategy is...under king cohen the strategy seems different each year and sometimes within the year...cohen said Fa's didn't work out but maybe they did work out being that they were 40!

Outside of Ohtani and Yamamoto, who do Mets fans want Cohen to go out and spend big on? Snell? He only pitches well in contract years. Montgomery? Too old. Justin Turner could be a good pickup for a one year contract. We have barely seen any moves this offseason. Now that the holidays are over expect to see the moves pick up steam.

As a met fan you are wrong! Plus the only way some big free agent is going to want to sign with us will be for the money or they grew up a Met fan!

I dont get Sal. The point is King Cohen does not seem as advertised. He can keep believing in Steve, but I dont see results to believe. As a Mets fan I don't want touch Snell with a 5 foot pole. One of the things we constantly complain about is how bad our bullpen is. So we're going to pick up a guy who in quite possibly the best year of his career averaged 5 and a third innings a start?? Not only am I not confident that he's going to be anywhere close to that guy I want someone who can go 7 or at least close to it. Why would I want him???? Montgomery I'm tentative about. Depends not so much on the price but on the years. I don't really wanna commit to anything over 5 for him if we can avoid it. I'd rather not be stuck around with another aged out vet after last year.

Im a 50 year Mets fan. I don't agree that they're wasting any players prime. They simply can't compete with Atlanta now. Why try to compete when there's no way to compete?? Instead....plan a way to build something that can compete for the long haul. Lindor and Alonso can still play ball everyday and enjoy the process of being significant for years to come. This will be a down year but one season doesn't destroy a players prime. Don't kid yourself..... Cohen will spend mightily when Stearns gives him the green light. There is no doubt in my mind that Stearns is calling the shots...... Cohen trusts him and when Cohen made decisions to spend his money it hasn't brought the results he was looking for. Stearns is telling Cohen to relax and worry about his financial business and when the time is right they will go all in. Im not at all surprised they haven't spent. Yamamoto went to the winning organization with the best weather. You can't blame him or Cohen for that.

OH my God! Met Fan here. but when it comes to culture , the mets have a loosing culture. Perhaps one of the worse organizations in baseball. last world series was in 1986. don't even come close to the braves. all the mets have to do is learn how to develop talent like the braves. Commented on many videos that we werent getting Othani, Yamamoto, or Soto, and this is a 5 year rebuild with prospects. Do not expect any big name to be signed. Its moneyball all the way with Stearns. Cohen spent big once and it didn't pay off, dont expect that again. There'll be no snell, no JD Martinez, and no Montgomery.

“Who’s your ace?” is just about the most archaic question you can ask these days. An “ace” is meaningless. The Mets have had an ace every single season for the past 20 years. Sure, great to have a guy who pitches 6+ excellent innings every five days but baseball is won in the bullpen and on the bench. 162 games is a marathon and quality on the back end of your roster is what is going to ultimately decide your chance at success. For once, I’m glad to see we have a GM who is concerned about depth on both the major and minor league rosters.
