A road trip to Mevagissey Cornwall 1968 The Narrow streets & steep valley sides lead down to the centre of the old Mevagissey where the distinctive twin harbour provides a safe haven for boats.
Great piece of film, catches the the unique flavour of 1971. I left school aged 15in in 1970 and left home in 1970, shared a house with friends like these, had hair like these guys, dressed the same, the girls were well, like these! I feel so lucky to have experienced the same. Thank you for sharing.
5 years later (1976), 10 year old me was there on our holiday. Remember a trip out on a mackerel (I think) boat fishing. Gawd that was rough. Sad how time flies. If those young guys in that filum were 25, they’d by 78 now (2024),
Great film ,wish it was longer ,1971 when Cornwqll was a far away remote place ,no dual carriageway a30 ,remote unspoilt, no pvc or botch ,look at the cars Ford Anglias and Mk1 cortinas and the clothes ,it was at the end of the hippy era just as glam rock was coming in ,love to see more ❤
Glad you enjoyed it, I do have more, search Cornwall on my channel, here is one below. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q-gq8udHNoo.html
Great days long gone as has the two banks which used to be here, Kelly's long gone too, went down to Meva from our home at Heligan today and it's crammed with Emmets and Willow car park absolutely choka block, can't wait for when they've all gone home.😂😂
Was there 71-72 age sixteen, selling fresh donuts and whipped cream off the harbour side for Mr Kelly, and washing the floors. Mr Kelly had the pick of all the biggest live crab and lobsters from the boats. Cornwall Hell's Angels turned up one day.
At the end was a great picture of the white china clay waters off PAR. lmao i lived in cornwall in the 70's i was 16 yrs old. Now i live in Idaho, USA. Far far away from home.
Just been here on holiday with my wife and 2 children. My mother inlaw and her partner live here. Her partners name is Jamie Elvins. I think his family have lived here for generations. Great short video...
Wow, I remember that ! - When you'd used up the film in your camera, you had to send it off to the Kodak laboratories or wherever for processing then wait about three weeks for the pics to be sent back to you !
@@mackenzierough I've also shared it on my 'history of Mevagissey' page which you can find on Google if interested. It's at the bottom of the page, which is number 1 on Google.
Cornish coastal villages hardly change over the years like Mevagissey, Fowey, Polperro, Looe, St Ives, Port Isaac, Padstow, Mousehole, Porthleven, and many more.
That's right - They filmed the contrevrsial movie STRAW DOGS in St Buryan near Land's End in 1971 - Obvously there have been superficial changes, but it is still easily recognisable.
@@rightonrightonrightonthat was going on back then. Cheap homes snapped up. People think it’s new in the Yorkshire dales as well. It’s not. People just ‘forget’. It seems on a bigger scale because the population is now bigger so yes of course there’s more people to do it.
@@xr6lad Nah pal there has been a massive uptick in the past decade. I've seen my village of mousehole go from a tight knit community to 80% second homes which are empty half the year.
Fantastic! The young man falling off the rock at the very end is my father Rob starling. I would love to know who some of the others are in this clip if you know? Cheers and great editing!
Hi, how good is it to see your father in this? I hope that he is OK? I couldn't remember who he was, the Guy driving is John Allen, I have not seen him since, the guy and girl hugging and running were just a couple we met on the street there, and my name is Ian Rough. I now live in South West France.
@@mackenzierough Thanks for the info Ian! I showed this to my mother who recognised you actually, you may remember her. Nicola ‘Nikki’ Beaumont. Well, it’s really lovely to see my dad on film as a young man. He now lives in Germany and was incredibly surprised to see this too. A really lovely edit I must say, just great stuff. There is an American fella (I believe he may be dead now and his name escapes me) who does something similar to you in that he has hundreds of hours of films of his life in various places doing normal things. They go back to the 70s and 80s and just showcase normal life in America. It’s quite amazing to watch. Even more so when you see your dad pop up!
Excellent old film. I was down Mevagissey way just before Christmas for the craft market at Heligan. Your mate has upgraded from the Cortina to a Jag! This clip could be more like the early 70s though, as at 1.02 the Hillman Imp and Mini Clubman are 'J' registration which was 1971. Also, the Mini Clubman was first launched in 1970. What is the background music? it fits very well
