I agree, but the Mevo ecosystem has some nice perks. If I were looking for a quick and (relatively) easy setup for mobile streaming and recording, the Mevo would be a good option. I really hate that the batteries are internal though. The batteries are pretty standard, but no way to change them without opening it up.
@frankfengzhu At the almost exact price point yes, I personally think it's a far more powerful and versatile camera, even as a standalone when rigged. This Logitech could have been a hit at 500-600 $. Just my two cents.
1:39 USB-C to Ethernet, I'm listening, I'm listening. And now PoE over and PoE to USB adapter. OMG! I think you got quite a combo there. It's a lot in one package.
I just came across the Core the other day and then found your review, FINALLY a Mevo I am interested in! The fact it can be used in the Mevo ecosystem or outside of it with HDMI, NDI and SRT is a HUGE deal. I am excited for this :)
What a fantastic demo and review Aaron! I have been playing with 3 Zcam NDI box cams, and really frustrated with their "auto-focus." Otherwise excellent. I am going to sell them, and buy 3 Mevo Cores based solely upon your review. Will also buy a Lumix power zoom lens. I use vMix to livestream, but it would be wonderful not to have to use it. We just need a 3 shot, and screen cap, and looks like Mevo/Logi can handle that with a tablet. Audio might be a bit of a challenge for us, but perhaps we can fix that with a Dante or NDI Rodecaster-esque device.
I got 3x used GX80 with (!) lenses plus 1x Blackmagic ATEM mini Pro ISO. All for the same money as 1x MEVO without lens. And I am happy. For the MEVO I would have wished inbuild LAN cable sockets with PoE to make neat wiring more easy.
What I love about all these mevo videos this morning is seeing all these m43 lenses being mounted on a webcam. Panasonic Leica primes for web streaming, heck ya! I’ve been using my ancient GH5 mkI as a webcam which looks great but doesn’t have the Logitech app integration
At this price I really dont see any reason whey anyone would pick this over the BMD Studio Micro 4K G2. Thye are gonna have to cut the price by at least 300-400 to make this a viable product. But at the same price as the Micro G2 There is no reason to pick this unless you are absolutely need its one neat feature. Wireless.
Or your workflow is based on NDI. If I can reduce my need to have an ATEM for control that's one less device i've got to manage. Honestly non IP distribution and control SHOULD be cheaper. No one using Dante or NDI today is going to go back to the old way of doing things.
So many people on this comment thread have alot to learn. The box form factor is perfect for live streaming and rigged up cinema shoots. Have you ever tried to changing exposure and compose your cameras for a stream without an app on screen to control everything? Its a nightmare. Pro’s: 1) Sensor size & M43 mount 2) NDI 3) Power: Usb-C to Ethernet for POE+ and data stream simultaneously. 4) Mevo Software to fully control the camera. 5) 1/4 -20” with Arri pin mounts for secure rigging. Cons: Builtin Battery (6 hours) CDAF: Contrast AF It is half the price of a Panasonic BGH1, ($2,000) with many of its features minus pro features like timecode, shutter angle, and Pro Res Raw out for half the price at $1,000. All this complaining when no a GH5 does not have these features with a capture card. Stop being cheap. Lol
Intriguing option & great review Aaron. I'm using the Obsbot Tail Air (3) in a multi-cam at the moment - prefer it to this, but that depends on where Logitech takes it from here.
Thanks for this review, It's a camera that had great options and I would have loved it, a few months ago. Now, the BlackMagic Micro G2 is $ 4,00 cheaper (nearly nothing) but it's also a much better camera, that has way more possibilities to use it. I really think that a bunch of Micro G2 camera's and a switcher are just a little more expensive, but you get so much more options and possibilities that they are a no brainer.
By the way, at 5:49 it looks as if the screen is divided in two sections that are separately coded / transcoded. Exactly in the middle there is a big visible line from the top to the bottom that is very irritating. Also there are a few pixels grouped as a rectangle visible in the chin.
999 for the camera plus another few hundred for a lens... It's a very pricey solution. My mevo starts will suffice for quick and dirty live streaming (for a third the price). But the Core is intriguing
@@crooker2 Good point. I purchased 3 used Mirrorless cameras and an ATEM mini for less than the Mevo with a single lens. But, if I ever did go the Mevo route it would probably be with one Core as my main camera and 2 Mevo Starts as secondary cameras. Maybe I will dive in in a few years when they start hitting the used market or come down in price.
@@portersblackboard Yup. When it comes to these cameras, the NDI is the killer feature. Otherwise, you can probably get by with a number of cheaper panasonic M4/3 cameras. The Mevo Start cameras are much cheaper, and all inclusive. OF course, they have their downfalls (Probably get better cameras from older cellphones and the NDI/HX app). When it comes to M4/3... it's never as much the camera as it is the lens. You can spend MEGA bucks on a good lens. It adds up.
This is great for wireless camera setup, if that's what you need, and I wish they had made this as PTZ camera. I still prefer wired camera, but sometimes I'd love to get a wireless when I'm on the road, since using sdi cable is not always possible.
Great video. This is a neat option. I do have a couple questions. 1. I would like to see how long the battery last on the mevo core? 2. How would you go about setting up a multicam on the core when you dont have WiFi access at the site? Can it do direct to the iPad/phone, should you bring your own wireless router? 3. I like the size of these and Im evening thinking of getting them for my Atem Mini Extreme. I would like to see how they work on that. I hope i can tune in live, but i usually cant make it.
You can connect your iPad to the wifi hotspot that the camera broadcasts, but I would recommend bringing a wireless router instead, since it will open up more possibilities
I love the mevo start. Not the best cameras, but great for on the go live streaming. I have 6 of them. (lack of optical zoom is a severe limitation). Adding m4/3 lenses to the core is great for flexibility, but prices them out of my upgrade range. Do they come with stock lenses?
They don't come with kit lenses, but you can get some entry level lenses for pretty cheap. Also take a look at eBay or other places for used lenses, you can get some pretty good deals usually.
I'm building a streaming/recording kit for a mobile podcast production for my high school students. I was thinking either Mevo Start or OBSBOT Tail Air, but this camera is tempting. The multicam app would be perfect for entry level broadcast students as well. If only there were more MFT power zoom lenses on the market. The existing options are OK, but not very impressive (have the 14-42 and 45-175 Panasonic lenses).
@@frankfengzhu I have a few different video options and the YoloBox Ultra is among them. If it could use more than 1 NDI input it would be the frontrunner. Honestly, since this is meant for less technical students, NDI probably would not be an issue.
I don't know why everyone keeps comparing these to traditional mirrorless cameras, the whole point of these is the wireless and network connectivity, not to mention the integration with the multicam app.
Logitech is an international company so I do not understand why they only released it in US and Canada without any mention of availability elsewhere? Do they have supply issues? Do they expect lower demand in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia? From my point of view, the Core had made many competitors really nervous, namely Yololiv, because they still don't have their camera ready and Core seems like a very serious competitor, since it is wireless and does not need a dedicated device like Yolobox, just a tablet, so this seems very tempting, even more with the HDMI connectivity for other switchers or optional NDI and safety internal recording.
@@frankfengzhu Hi Frank! I have talked to Mevo representatives and they do not have any plans nor dates for worldwide release, so it might not even come. Maybe no need to be nervous, since we cannot judge the product until we see the results IRL, there is a nice window of opportunity for the competition. I think that the wireless option is the main feature and since we all usually have an iPad, this makes a lot of sense. But we also own a Yolobox, so I wonder how complicated it would be to have a similar ecosystem, we have been suggesting in the user group since the first mentions of the AlphaCam. And AlphaCam R&D goes way back already, so I understand that the sudden Mevo Core announcement by such a major player was a bit unexpected. For example the L shape of tha AlphaCam seems like great idea, because it can easily stand by itself horizontally and vertically. I do appreciate the “fast autofocus”, but for me as a user, the speed of the autofocus is not really an issue, we need autofocus precision, which is for example face/eye/subject tracking, because that would also mean auto cropping/reframing, which can in many cases replace a PTZ cam. The main thing that draws me to Mevo Core is the simplicity of the setup and the vast connectivity. Is there any chance that same exosystem would be possible with Yolobox Pro/Ultra? Coming to a streaming session with three AlphaCams, powerful central router and a Yolobox, no cables needed, only external batteries for longer sessions and starting the stream in mere minutes. Also having the option of bigger tally lights for the talents to see where to look and for camera operators to see that they are live in PGM. Of course I can’t tell how multiple Mevo Core behave together latency-wise, but judging from the Mevo Start, the latency is tolerable and cameras seem in sync (on a fast wifi). Also the Mevo app allows for video source latency correction. This is what the customers need and want so I would love to have a complete quick to set up and lightweight streamin ecosystem based on YB.
Sounds interesting in principle - especially in relation to the MUlticamapp . However, I have read through the specification. Only 30FPS at 1080p? At a camera price of 999$? Really now? If you add the lens to that, it's questionable whether this camera is still worth it. What do you think? Mevo Pro & NDI also offer many possibilities.
@@aaronpk Sorry, I'm already aware of that. However, it would be welcome to OUTPUT the 4k via HDMI/NDI as well? and seriously, 1080 only in 30fps? no 6ofps, no 25 and 50 FPS for PAL? New in 2024, around 1000$? And then the cost of the lens? I do have some MFT lenses, but if I had to buy them new now, then this camera is not a game changer from today's point of view. i think that's a shame at first.
Thank you for creating. Nice camera, but Switcher Studio and several iPhones would work just as good. I have 7 of them. The resale value is a lot better than this camera.
It looks cool, but it's not as good as the BlackMagic Micro Studio Camera 4K G2, which is $4 cheaper and comes with Davinci Resolve. Logitech is charging too much. They needed to at least hit $800 because DR costs $300, so they have to at least get close to $700. The built-in battery is stupid. It's a studio camera. You don't need a battery if if you did you want a replaceable battery.
These are cool but why would you buy these over say a Blackmagic micro studio? They are roughly the same price and BM has more history in studio environment and equipment.
@aaronpk I never sold on an app. When they stop supporting it and you have come dependant in it that sucks. The wireless is neat, but can be unreliable with the amount of noise out there. I have wired lav mics for events when a wireless mic starts getting flooded. The main thing for these is NDI over a USB C network jack, that I hope is just a USB C and proprietary, and HDMI.
@@revhix76 oh gotcha! So because the app can output an NDI feed, I used an NDI to HDMI converter (separate device) to get that video feed up on the monitor! You could also pull up the NDI feed in OBS or another NDI app on your computer.
ouchhh the prize ... logitech is always expensive. the body without lens lol 1000$ lol, i preferre my Z6II... 4/3 vs aps-c vs full frame. full frame 1600$ 4/3 1000$ ^^
@@MelvinDlaCruz It's more about being able to use it in places where running wires isn't practical. Things like filming outside on a field, or in a church when you don't have the ability to run wires ahead of time, etc.
Can’t wait to see the real reviews from people who bought it. But I have a feeling this price point will be a deal breaker because it’s just one camera.
