This song will always be my favorite song. I play guitar and sing it to my toddler son a couple nights a week. I want him to have it memorized. Life is meant to be more than observed, and some things won't come through mere observation- "we didn't ask what it seems like, we asked what it is."
You all call me dad but your true dad's not me I laid next to your mother and your forms were conceived Your father's the light in all that you see .... Why not be utterly changed into fire? Gotta love that 6/8 time signature and Aaron Weiss's sheer lyrical genius
The poem is great. It has literally made my week. You may seek the hidden truth or make far-reaching conclusions about your fate, origins and rules of the world, but afterall all it turns to be just a streetlight or a burning pile of leafs, and if you are a king - even then you still are the bug. All your problems and goals from the other endge seem to be smallet. And there is always a higher point of view.
these lyrics are absolutely amazing. the complete loss of one's own agenda into the absolution of purpose. the experience you have when you've been superseded by a kind yet colossial power that is ultimately one's fate; truth, if you will. it is like an epic poem written by goeth. fantastic.
I've been devoutly atheist my entire life. After hearing this song last month and reading the lyrics, I decided to believe in god. The song tells me it's okay to, that god is experiential so it's whatever it means to me in my life, as a beetle or as a human. Not the unhealthy relationships forced upon us by religion. My relationship with god is mine and not to be sullied by religion. Thank you Aaron. PS "God is spiritual - Religion is political"
I mean, I'm still an atheist and I do not think we ever need to believe in the existence of a higher power to understand nature, but Aaron's music helped me get a whole new perspective on the ‘appeal’ of religion and develop a somewhat sympathetic feeling towards people who turn to religion. One doesn't need to be religious to appreciate the beauty of their music.
@NinjaTrickVideos Yeah, I actually asked him about it when mwY came to my town a while back, and he was super nice and told me. He just said that he realized he had fallen into the trap of always making the male character the interesting one, while the female is just beautiful and obedient. He said there were plans at some point to make a short graphic novel out of "The Queen Beetle on the Coconut Estate," but it never came to fruition.
the concert is performed for the benefit of the people there, not some guy who wants to watch the show on a computer in his apartment for free. it's not even about the money its about the whole concept of a live musical performance. they're doing what they're supposed to do, which is whatever they want.
1- Need to contact the bald girl with the beautiful smile, just to tell her so. 2- Need to know if the lovely couple hugging behind Aaron is still together. Everyone here seems to be feeling something profound
