I just watched video and one keeper noticed that his snake liked to sit in the uvb. Idk how relevant that is to you but maybe that would draw him out more.
*Update* About Walnut bedding: originally I found information that alluded to it being a poor choice for many lizard species because of the particulates, but still had "mixed reviews" about snakes, specifically for snakes like sand boas with no issues. I chose to use it because it seemed to be a fair choice and while I have not seen any negative effects of it I have since decided to move away from walnut bedding in all my enclosures and stay tuned for future habitat videos to see more experiments like this
@@brentsacolin since then I’ve made a new video for Omaley’s enclosure and I don’t have any animals on walnut and won’t again. Check the new video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MMe2F-aVtPc.html
Arthur X they get 3-4 feet long, so maybe the size of a sub adult ball, and significantly thinner than.a python maybe 2 inches around and a ball of similar length would be 6 inches
I would recommend using a different substrate other than the walnut. I have since learned that it may not be the best idea period. Check out the 2.0 video I did as a follow up
My Mexican Kingsnake just has aspen shavings and I noticed his nose is getting a bit dirty.. I would love to change his substrate but not sure on which one to get!?. do you have suggestions on betting / introducing him to new bedding?
Honestly I wouldn’t now. I would use a mix/ combo of playsand (not calci sand) topsoil, cypress mulch, coconut coir or chunk or things similar. In the new update video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GXOt34rSX_0.html I used an exo terra product that has playsand mixed in with it but as far as I can tell doesn’t have anywhere near the risks of impaction or internal damage as the other products. I left this video up for one part accountability/growth to show we all are learning together and can make some mistakes along the way and one part hopefully some inspiration for creativity of other peoples enclosures I hope that helped😀
We got a young mexican black kingsnake about a month ago. Still searching how to provide a natural enclosure. Thank you for providing details to consider while building a better home for the girl.
Check out the the updated cage i tried for him ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MMe2F-aVtPc.html Also I have since learned that walnut bedding should probably be avoided out right, not just for lizards so I made an update and put that note in the description. All about learning together
