@@drlibro2669 Actually I personally hadn’t considered that specific scenario for those specific reasons (though you are correct too and it’s the “irresponsible” or the “lazy” one.) Let me explain: These kind of teachings we usually end em up with “…because you never know when a drunk or crazy or idiot or lazy or irresponsible man will go the opposite way.”
@@drunkargonaut3899 being mexican myself, and living in a smaller town, i'm speaking from experience. There are 2-way streets that definitely don't fit 2 bigger cars.
I'm Mexican American and as a kid growing up my pops always be alert of your surroundings and when I got hurt he would say that's what you get for not paying attention and that's a is the Mexican way
Came here to comment something similar. Any mistake was on you as a kid. I remember my old man saying if I got hit by a car he would kick my ass for being dumb enough to get hit by a car lol. Always stayed with me.
There's a thing in Mexican culture that is basically summed by a saying, "andale para que se te quite" which means that you deserve the bad thing that happened to you for being a fool and not paying attention, not being more aware, not thinking of your actions and of the subsequent consequences of those actions. It's something our moms use on us growing up for when kids do stupid shit like jump off a slide or something, we're not coddled, we're made to learn that we're personally responsible for what happens to us.
@@robertogarcia1797 You can auto like your comment all you want but “ponte trucha” is common slang in Mexico, Mexico is HUGE and there’s different expressions depending on where you are. “Ponte verga” isn’t used by everyone, in some social circles it’s considered too vulgar so “ponte trucha” is a tamer version of that but still within the colloquial lingo.
@@LexusFox you can argue all you want, trucha is from El Salvador , we don't use trucha in mexico, probably in the south may be used but not in the centre nor the north....mejor ponte verga y deja de hablar mamadas !!
When your a Mexican kid and you fall down. Your parents don't go pick you up and put a bandaid. They tell you to get up. And if you cry they tell you they are going to hit you with a belt if you keep crying. It's sounds bad but it makes us tough
Went to Mexico and tripped on a crack on the sidewalk. It hurt and I exclaimed and quickly got up, embarrassed. Everyone looked at me like I was stupid or thinking, what the heck? 🤷🏻♀️ now i know why. :)
Wow, that is so true. Every morning when I drop my kids off at their high school I see kids looking down at their phone in the parking lot and crossing the street. I always tell my kids "Car beats human 100 percent of the time, being right and in a wheelchair makes you dumb".
I’ve never been to Mexico but I love Mexicans. I’ve worked alongside them all my life and they are amazing, hardworking, friendly, generous people. After marrying my lovely (rich) wife I didn’t have to work anymore and I always hire Mexicans and other sudamericanos for any work on and around my house. I never worry about theft or cheating from them. Just my experience. Just my opinion. Peace! 😎
Mexicans don't go around thinking about lawsuits. It's just a part of our culture. I love the "andale para que se te quite" below. It is your responsibility to watch where you are going.
I always tell people that in Mexico your safety is up to you. How very observant of you to notice that about us. I think a good balance between being careful for yourself and others taking responsibility is best. I also think it's good for people's mental health as it makes your mind active and your 5 senses always in use. In the US I regularly see people, especially younger ones, crossing the streets without looking assuming drivers are just going to stop for them.
Ha! So true. The other day my sister in law slipped & fell inside a Coppel store. It took a few days to recover from the bumps and bruises, but it never crossed her mind to complain to management or request compensation. She told me it was her fault for wearing shoes with slippery soles. And that was the end of that.
It has nothing to do with being compensated for a mishap. It's more of a common sense issue for most of us. If there is a wire across the floor and you trip on it, it's your fault for not being mindful. I'm sure you've heard the word P3NDEJO in a variety of phrases. If you have been playing your guitar for a while now, you have a legitimate use for that cable. I need to be mindful of your setup because your working at earning a living. If I trip over it, I tripped over it. The wire didn't tangle my foot so I could fall. I tripped "por pend3jo." It's just another way of viewing life. ✌️😁❤️🇲🇽
This is also true when we are driving. We are all being careful of other drivers, potholes, bumps and pedestrians, because you never know when you are going to find a cable in the middle of the road.
It’s so true!! I see them working together on top of the roof without a rope or anything holding them and yet they do not fall or PRETEND to fall. Hard workers!!!
We are just built different brother. We were conquered and colonized from slaves to indentured servants to field workers and day laborers. Welfare and cash assistance is non-existent in Mexico so you have to fend for yourself.
I'm Mexican but grew up in the U.S. as a kid. I agree with his observation. I made a similar comment the other day but it was about the flash floods in Houston and how some people die in their cars. I suggested that in some cases It could've been avoided if people weren't so pampered by technology and society. Bc when they 1st stall water usually isn't that deep or the current that strong but they stay in their cars probably bc they don't want to wet their shoes. Thinking they will be pulled to safety car and all and won't have to ruin their shoes. Their focus isn't strictly on survival and it should be.
I’ve had cousins in Mexico that do to because of personal injury, but the thing is is that from young kids were taught to mind our surroundings to put it in slang terms watcha trucha. And then when something wrong does happen, we get made fun of. So don’t be stupid and watcha trucha.
And when I did trip and fall, my grandma would say, "Levantate y sacudete," Stand up and shake it off. Mexican boxing champs do it all the time. Pain is our teacher.
You nailed it, in Mexico you gotta be be careful where you're stepping on, rattle snakes in the countryside, open strainers drainage on the streets, electrified cables laying on the roofs, small metal rods left out of the floors on purpose "to hold something", you name it.
Growing up in a Mexican household you learn at a very young age to not be clumsy otherwise you’ll be taunted for being a pendejo for the rest of your life. 😅😂😂😂
I’m Mexican American and from San Francisco. Also have worked in legal field for 30 years. America is a sue-happy because we are a capitalist country. Also the INjustice system requires that people hire attorneys and it takes a lot of money and time. We are just not made that way where we see dollar signs if we get hurt. Even workers comp is ridiculous what they make people go thru. Brown and proud!
It’s not that we tougher, It’s just we have few options we are against the odds so we have to be more alert and careful and suck it up and be tough . I’m from Atlanta ga, Mexican parents, Today I deal with mental illness , ptsd and other things, they never took me to see a doctor to see what’s wrong with me, we just had to deal with it. Meanwhile , other Americans hooked up on prescription medications , alcohol and drugs, instead of people tough and just learning how to live with their issues
It's really quite simple in Mexico we act like grown ups, personally I have notice that when foreigners come to Mexico they start to act like huge slow babies I personally don't put up with it anymore.
What you're saying is true. Except for Mexicans who live in Puebla jaja xD (look for the videos where pedestrians trip over lane separators in Puebla).
“Un ojo al gato y otro al garabato”, Basically means to take care of 2 things at the same time (we have 2 eyes) without neglecting one nor the other. That’s a Mexican saying.
Soy Mexicano and approve this message. Interesting observation😮. It’s funny, me growing up. If I fell, tripped or something happened. The response was always “por pendejo” by parents , uncles or friends. 😂
When I grew up in the 70's, we had a lot of personal responsibility because we looked after ourselves more as kids. No helicopter parents and we'd be on our own outside a lot.
When I got to the us I noticed some people would cross the street only looking one way and not double checking. Our parents used to tell us to double check before crossing street and look both ways.
Like you said, there are a lot of pot holes, damaged sidewalks, steps, and so forth that people have to pay attention. They cannot be distracted by a cell phone because they can fall and hurt themseves.
It’s not hard to sue but we think it’s more of a hassle to do it. You have to miss work and even if your boss tells you it’s OK (most will say it’s not), you’re 99% not getting paid for those days. You have to pay the lawyer upfront and the lawsuit might drag for months until you get compensation for tripping where the judge will say it’s yea 5000 pesos compensation because the reason is kinda laughable , you are at minus 40,000 by that point at the minimum for lost work days and legal fees. Plus anyone in Mexico who sues for tripping on a cable and just scraped their knee or something will be looked at as a clown
If the courts threw out all the frivolous lawsuits that came in on the daily ,people wouldn't be so "sue happy" and would be forced to look both ways when crossing the street.
Creo que diste en el clavo! Es difícil demandar y ganar en México, sin mencionar que aunque ganes o pierdas; cada quien paga sus servicios de abogacía ........
Yes, it is harder to sue in Mexico. The thing is that our judicial system is corrupt and it isn't working as it should. You only get justice if you are wealthy. That's why we are working on a legislation to let the people decide what judges are staying and who is leaving based on their past actions and qualifications
Well, the thing is that here in México there's no real reason to seek compensation if/when you trip and fall since that'll be on you for not paying atention where you walk.
That’s exactly the same way it is in Portugal 🇵🇹. My cousins always joke around when a bunch of Americans are over there. They’re like oh… another American here to get drunk and fall off a cliff.lol. They’re usually the way North Americans though
We have a saying, "That's what you get for being an idiot". It generally means, "You deserve that for being an idiot and not paying attention". We are always raised being told it's our fault "ACCOUNTABILITY!"
You hit the nail on the head. Only, has nothing to do with suing or the law. There’s that tale as old as time called, “why weren’t you watching where you were going?”. Why would we sue for us not watching where we’re stepping. If our kids are running around. Correction, our kids would not be running around. It’s a culture thing. Maybe it’s just not part of English culture? Right there with not bathing much. Mind, I don’t know if the bathing bit is true. It’s a rumor that Europeans didn’t bathe much.
Everybody out there tryina decipher or simply understand Mexican psyche and culture. But never will! Us Mexicans are a rare breed amigo, you'll never figure us out! 😉 Alta gloria a los nexicanos cabrones. Puro Guanajuato y arriba Jerecuaro viejo fino! 🇲🇽
Mexican moms tell you to be careful, when you don’t listen and end up falling down, they’ll tell you “I told you so, be more careful next time” and if you do it more than once, they’ll simply hit you with la chancla 🩴 😂
You don't expect to get compensation. If it's something obviously dangerous where a person or company is responsible, yes you can sue for reparations and medical expenses (not compensation). And as for medical expenses you can get decent healthcare from very cheap with no insurance up to whatever you're willing to pay for an international-grade certified healthcare provider.
I moved my family to guadalajara because i didn't want to raise gringo kids... my kids know that there are booby traps every where and before going on the street to make sure it was safe.... i saw a young girl of about 13 get hit by a cat in the US after running into the cross walk while a truck stopped and proceeded to make a right turn, I'm sure that the truck was blamed but the girl ran into the crosswalk...😮
Yeah I never understood people that trip all the time, like do you not see where you're going? You don't even need to look down. We have peripheral vision for a reason...
In mexico you learn to survive, you can trip or fall anywhere you go... and also a lot of people practices hiking so comes and goes. Yeah you will not have compensation, maybe you can try but id too much litigation. but the medical bills will be dmaller too.
We care about people but don’t cuddle them if they’re irresponsible. Also if you hurt yourself for not being careful no one will pay your bills, we’ll feed you and not let you starve but that’s it!
WRONG!! Mexicanos just understand that you are doing something there, and they are not going to bother you, whether he or she is interested in what you are doing, in other words they heve respect for you and your property, let's not forget that a lot of people is only looking for ways to get something out of you, any excuse is a potential dollar or in this case in Mexico pesos out of you. We are not like that.
Yes but it's not personal responsibility, because if it was, then the person in charge of the holes and the cables would fix them, cause they would have personal responsibility, but they don't. It's just normalized awareness for survival, cause otherwise you might not survive, might not get help or justice.
Is not THAT hard to take on action against a stranger, be it legal or just street justice, if that makes sense. Is just that it seems ludicrous to us mexicans to sue or fight anyone for things one can easily avoid.
When you're with your friends, and if you're the only one that falls, the injuries are the least of your problems, your compas won't let you forget that you fell for being stupid or pendejo, and trust me, if that ever happens, you'll be aware of your surroundings from that moment on, cause if it happens to you a second time, you might as well move to another country. Lol. For us Mexicans , even if we scrape our knees or hands, the first thing that worries us after a fall, is who saw us fall. Before the pain of a scraped knee or hand reaches our brain, the thought of, who saw me fall, will be the first thing that comes to mind. 😂
I lived on the Border for six years, and I have to tell you, Mexicans are TOUGH. Very good people , very hard workers. But they are tough.Probably like Americans were 50 or 100 years ago.
