I love this headphone. It's super comfortable upon my melon, it's gorgeous to look at and it sounds outstanding to my nearly 63 year old ears. I can't afford their higher priced cans and that's OK. I didn't spend thousands on them.
Can u test the fiio FT5? Im using that recently and its very good, very coozy sounding, yet detailed with good bass. I would be curious how it is compare to other planars in its price range. It has a very good cable (literally only brand in the headphone market where u get a decent cable not a shitty one) and 2 sets of earpads where i like the velour more.
I would consider the Elite (4000.00) and the Empyrean (3000.00) their top models, not the Liric (2000.00). Though it is closed like the 99 Classic, not open like the rest. Do agree they are a little over-priced for what they are, maybe more like 500.00 to 600.00 range at most. I have the 99 Classics, Drop edition, and I'm not sure if this is a issue with the Drop version, but when I touch the headband, major microphonics through the headphone.
The microphonics problem might be just inherent to headphones with this type of headband design. DCA Aeon OpenX, AKG 612pro, and Ollo S5X have similar headband designs and they all had the microphonics issue. The ones with thinner headbands like the DCA and AKG did have less of an issue than the others though.
I like this headphone. Its super comfortable and sounds great. But of course also expensive. All the expensive headphones i have had, has been overpriced. Celeste, lcd2c , Denon ah d9200, Sennheiser hd 800, and so on. They all have their strengths and weakness. But they all share on common thing. They are all overpriced. Too sad this business has gone crazy. Butt still, i love the meze 109 pro ❤
