Just ordered it. Your reviews are great, btw. I will couple the 99 classics with Chord Mojo 2. I hope this association will provide the perfect balance. I'm gonna buy 109 Pro next month for strict home use, I really fell in love with it after two listening sessions.
@@PassionforSound Well, I've been hugely disappointed by the 99 Classics. I expected it to be much more alive, I even prefer Sennheiser hd 560s. But the good news is I'll get the 109 pro sooner than expected. 😎
@@PassionforSoundTHank you for the suggestion :) I can't find those here in Norway though unfortunately. I think I'll go for the Meze 99 Neo. From what I've heard, they seem to be what I'm after, and now they're on a big sale as well actually.
I realize this video is a few years old but maybe I’ll get a reply? Wondering what amplification you used for this review. I have the 99‘s and currently looking for an amp. Just using my MacBook at the moment. Definitely leaning towards something with great clarity to help offset the warmth of the 99‘s a bit
Reply provided! I can't recall which amps I was using back when I reviewed the 99s, but happy to provide some suggestions. What's your budget and do you have a DAC already?
@@PassionforSound Hey thanks for the reply! Budget probably in the 5 to 600 USD range. No dac as of yet. Considering the Schiit Stack but definitely don’t want anything on the warmish side. Appreciate any suggestions!
@@PassionforSound I guess I might add that this will be for desktop use. Considering the Chord mojo 2 based on reviews and how it is supposed to be very open with great clarity
In that price range, I'd probably look at the Geshelli Labs J2 & E2 if you're happy to go pure balanced. Otherwise, the Archel 2.5 is equally excellent as the single-ended version of the same amp design. Alternatively, you could look at the Topping L30 & E30 or SMSL SH-6 & SU-6. Personally, I'd go for the Geshellis 🙂
Oops. Just saw your next comment. The Mojo 2 is an amazing choice. It's not super ergonomic for desktop use (3.5mm and micro USB connections), but works great and sounds even better.
Thank you! Which headphones are your daily-driver? I want to spend up to 350$ Now I have in mind the Sony WH-1000XM3 and FIIO FH5. Listening mostly to club trance, vocal-trance, etc (not psytrance)
@@PassionforSound Thanks for replying. Why the Audioquest Nighthawks are out of the budget? They are 299.95$ right now. The sony is noise cancelling headphones as you already know (I need to try them) As for the FIIO, I am just wondering - can small in-ear earphones can produce such a high-quality sound like big ones? Do you always sacrifice some sound because of that? Meze Audio 99 Neo vs 99 classics - any difference between these two? Thanks!
