WOW!! Not an easy piece to pull off and you do so with gusto and determination! Kudos to the standing brass for the final run of the theme and that ending just shows the audience how to nail it home. Fantastic job!
My school's orchestra is playing this this spring!!! I'm so excited cause i've been wanting to play this for forever. We have the actual parts from 20th century fox that their musicians played on also!!! It's like a dream come true! You guys sounded great. No offense, but we have a much better horn section, but I have to admit your trumpets have us beat by a longshot! Keep up the work!
Bravo, kids!! (I say 'kids', as (1) it says YOUTH Orchestra, and (2), I am, alas, undoubtedly old enough to be any given member's father...). But his piece is one of my favorites. So...Bravo, from Texas... ;-)
That is a tall task asking the French Horns to play so high when they are so young. A bit of struggle, but not bad, but you can hear those poor horns struggling to hit those stratosphere notes. It's a bit unfair because David Arnold had the London Philharmonic Orchestra behind him. And where is the choir? You need the choir for the epic conclusion. But yea, the horn parts were too advanced for this group. This in no way diminishes the players, but this score could have possibly been transposed down a 4th or a 5th to give the horns a more playable part. Other than that and the descending scale that got the strings in a bit of trouble, being behind a measure, the entire group recovered well! Nice job!
The best part is that cellists pouring his heart at the minor passacaglia rendition, around 5:15, not to mention you're asking young trumpeters who have fucking schoolwork and shit to deal with, to handle an equally serious part both in terms of articulation, equipment, as the horns. Great performance to the best of their ability by a young ensemble. Americans would've obviously gotten the job done because we understood what Bill Pullman said, the British Kids here did an awesome job, just not what we could/ would / have will done once we make america great again
