So glad you went with leaf springs! So much easier and if you use the right springs they really don't ride bad!! And these trucks don't have that damn dropped frame like the 90s trucks.. excellent job!! 😮. That truck sits perfect!! And you really don't need a dana 60 if you don't have a Duramax or doing rock crawling.. or running ivery 37s. I've ran 37s on Dana 44s for yrs. With 4:10s. Axle over you don't need much arch!!
Man, that thing is bad ass I want one that is the truck Chevy should have built. Want to see more on how he did the manual t case with the center console I'd like to do mine. He made that clean
because not everything needs coil overs, and despite how it looks, this is a relatively easy conversion. Going to a four link etc up front would take a lot more fabrication
dude, this setup is perfect. people go crazy with lifts on a SAS, and this thing just looks fantastic. not to mention, the specs on this setup are ideal with the 79 f250 high pinion with 1/2 tubes and 6 lug outers is perfect for keeping unsprung weight down on a 1500 without loosing any drive ability. this is the truck chevy should have built. i'm basing my Silverado solid axle swap on this setup, and i picked up the ford 79 axle yesterday, which is honestly the hardest piece of the puzzle to find. thanks for these videos!
Everybody wants the ford high pinion dana. 44 or 60.. but you really don't need the high pinion unless you are rock crawling.. with the spring over axle and the relatively flat springs the drive line angle really is not that bad. Oh that's right my bad.. you need a left hand drop pumpkin.. my bad. Wasn't thinking.. was going to say you can use most any Dana 44 .. but I guess you'd have to swap axles and tubes.. anyway. Nevermind. Lol Used to 80s trucks..
and if anyone is wondering, you can run the np261 manual shift transfer case, the search, "np261 slip yoke eliminator" it's $400 with the yoke, but then you don't have to find a 241 with the vss. the 261 vss is ready to go.
The Dana 44 passengers knuckle was drilled and taped for the drag link, a high steering arm was used to clear the leaf springs. The tie rod is stock location for Chevy trucks, both tie rod and drag link are DOM 1.5”x.25 and tapped for Chevy 1 ton TRE
Dude, Love this thread. I have an '04 Escalade EXT that I picked up right before "the Vid' hit and have fallen in love with the rig. I wanted to make an overland build out of this truck but after 2 weeks of digging, calling a few local shops, and everyouin telling me to get a Wrangler with solid axels i almost gave up. Then I watched a few other threads and came across a overland trail thread that had a Taco SAS - I then searched for this thread. I already have the LQ9, I am going to copy this thread and start posting about my rig. Thanks for the awesome content - look forward to running some day with you out on a trail...
Merricks Garage any way I could see how Duke mounted the JB Custom transfer case shifter? I just love the build, mines about half way. He’s been really helpful when I ask him questions.
@@MerricksGarage 3 Link front. I've got a 14-volt full floater for the rear haven't decided what I'm going to do for a rear suspension though. It's going to be my overlander / camping rig, not a full-blown rock crawler I have a TJ for that.
@@dukeloster923 you have the drag link and tie rods built or did you get some off the shelf type parts? Does the Chevy outer lend you the means to run crossover or did you do work to the knuckle to run a steering arm? I gotta know this shit! Gonna swap mine after running trails today and wanting to do more with my '04.
Hey joed3im getting my parts together and I'm worried about a dana 44 not being strong enuff. I'm lookin to go 4:10's, 35's maybe tad bigger, soft old bronco coils, moderate trail "country Boy" use.
Depending on your driving still lockers and tire size the Dana 44 is plenty strong enough for 35’s! The 241 is a simple swap from a 246 NNBS Tcase. Just make sure you match you input spline count for your transmission!!
@@dukeloster923 stock 4l60e? So a sas kit from sky, straight axle of choice, springs, steering components. Would you chose the Ford axle or dodge axle or a Dana 44 chevy? And would a 4l60e do the job with 4.10 gears and 35” tires?
Hey what did he do with his 4wd actuator only thing that's holding g me up did he bypass it please responded learned tons from your guys videos on this truck I just got a d44 thanks big fan!!
Dude that's so sweet and just saying you inspire me more than anyone on RU-vid..... I love everything you love I've got a 93' 2 dr Yukon that ive been restoring for about two years everything on it except the interior is brand new including 355 TBI 4 bolt main and 4L60E got it all done about 6 months ago drove it for a week and was like hey I wanna SAS it so I acquired a 14bff and a D60 out of a superduty and really want to document it cause you dont see too many of those being swapped ibut dont know the first thing about videoing or editing and just bought a LM7 for it ! but enough rambling dude you're my hero and one day I just may get brave enough to try a video. Thanks brother keep on keepn on 🤘
Man this would be so cool to do on my Suburban. I don't want to do quite as gnarly of a lift and tire. Just a slight light with maybe 33s so my wife, who is short can still drive it around lol.
Do a spring-under SAS to keep it low. Don't flip the rear shackles and run a 3" lift spring. There's a dude in here that did a spring under S10 blazer. Low and stable with the strength of a solid front beam.
Nice build and definitely how to should've sent them off the assembly line! How do I go about getting ahold of the abs components for a build of my own? Any help is greatly appreciated
what did you have to do to the rear shackles to make the 88-97 sas kit fit? i measured my frame and have about 36.75 inch inner width. What inner frame width did you measure on your truck?
Smog legal in CA has nothing to do with ABS brakes... it’s just keeping the safety and good brake quality of a newer vehicle! Need tone rings on the hubs and GM sensors for the computer then program tire size and gear ratio
@dukeloster923 were you able to keep abs on yours? I have a single cab short bed 04, same setup Ford 44 front, but no abs... long story short a tree branch fell and hit the roof insurance salvaged it, now I need to do brake and lamp to re register it but I can't because no abs it won't pass.
It is a huge struggle. I have made it a point to do as much as I can to show that it can be done. My neighbors make it very difficult. There are several projects that are on the back burner right now due to space limitations but I haven’t found any shop space I can afford yet! 🤷🏼♂️⚒🎥
