I absolutely love the Gelgoog. It took me a while to appreciate it, but when it finally hit, I couldn’t resist. I’m ecstatic about the panel lines and detail, just thick enough to survive a coat of paint and primer. When I finally get to it, I’m going to paint it in the Unicorn era green colors. Awesome review.
Might actually pick this one up. The Gelgoog is my favorite OYW era Zeon mobile suit, and I love that this kit has a healthy amount of surface detail. I'm quite the opposite when it comes to detail, as I prefer a more realistic appearence. Never been a fan of 100% anime accuracy since they never feel like the "real robot" aesthetic to me. That's just my personal preference though. Love your reviews and I hope to see more of the casual Real Grade reviews too!
you make such in depth and well thought out reviews. your editing, especially the overlaid detail shots of the kit also help visualize what you say, instead of the constant rambling + fiddling most people do. a lot of what you do i dont really find in the bigger gunpla review channels. really great work!
Alright, thanks Redheadphones, you did it again, I finally nabbed this along with Char's Zaku II 2.0. I'm really looking forward to my yellow car figure.
After I finished my first MG Gundam Dynames model kit. I wanted an Enemy Zeon mobile suit. This Particular Gelgoog 2.0 was an automatic purchase. I love the design and thought. I will enjoy working on it as soon as I wake up the following day off I have from work. Great video by the way and I subbed to this channel. :)
If you worry about panel lines taking away from the anime look, grey liner is perfect. Also grey looks just like pencil and though the pencil rubs off much easier, you can find the look that appeals by easily removing pencil, or adding more. Mechanical pencil is totally legit for low contrast lining.
Got the high grade of this recently, and then I saw that you reviewed this lol, and one problem with 2.0 zeon kits is that the hands took the modern turn making the fingers or hands not the same with the body color Welcome bacc dude ;^)) great review as always uwu
Tbh, I like grey hands. If it was in pink hands, the inner frame would look very silly. You're going to have to paint the whole inner frame pink to match the anime which had the joints pink too. Also, every other modern kit has grey hands. its more of a nitpick then a problem
I love the gelgoog design and this 2.0 MG makes it look like it jumped out of the screen but im not a fan of all those useless tick marks but I can see some people loving them
I think the reason behind why the panel lines are so overwhelming is because you have used a black paint for them, if you use something like grey the result should be less so. Good luck with your painting.
I just wanted to note that when I built this Gelgoog, mine is posed on my shelf with the shield on the arm. No droopage yet after a couple of months of holding that pose. I just tilted the arm slighly inwards to cover the body, and it seems to not put all the weight on one side, so the polycap in the waist doesn't sink or droop at all. Maybe it'll 'degrade' in a year, so the urban legend goes, polycaps supposedly 'degrade' over time, which I have yet to see. But for now, seems super solid. I'm actually amazed that it holds the shield so well considering the baloney reputation 2.0 hands have for not being able to hold weapons. It holds this giant shield with just the 2.0 hands a lot better than my Ver Ka Nu Gundam holds its own beam rifle, and it doesn't flop around or wobble at all. My 1YW "Zeon" MG shelf is now satisfying, with a 2.0 Char Zaku II, 2.0 Gouf, 2.0 Gelgoog, and 1.5 Rick Dom...I think I like it more than my Gundam shelf. Beware if sanding the surfaces with a flat glass file, as the subtle concave curves on the forearm especially may throw you off. Try a different method of nub removal in those areas so you don't ruin it like I did....
I love how this kit looks but I really want an RG version. I wanna get all of the main MS used by Amuro and Char in the same scale so I can pose/line them all together! I *could* go all 1/100 but I don't think I could afford the MG Sazabi and Nu.
Thank you for this review. I enjoyed it. Subscribed! I think you were right to re-record the video. Positivity is so important! I feel like people go to their hobbies to relax and escape a bit. That was probably a good move. Remember, life is beautiful! There is so much to be grateful for if we take a step back sometimes. Looking forward to the next review!
Definitely do agree about the overuse of panel lines I mean I like panel lines, but the gelgoog here just seems to have way too many of them, and it definitely doesn't fit a 2.0 kit to have this much external detail
4:49 agree with that. Check the freedom gundam 2.0, It's just MB 2.0 rather than a MG 2.0 which is not anime accurate. Thanks for the review, amazing video.
Even though it's not the most anime accurate as good as this kit is, I would love to see char's suits get the origin treatment like the rx 78 did. Florescent pink paint is fun for mono eyes too, especially under a black light :p Also do you not top coat your kits? It would help keep your panel lines from fading and hiding the edges on your dry transfers.
I always thought it's head unit looks like a piggy... That's the only reason why I don't love this MS lol Will you buy the Barbatos MG? That thing looks amazing and the mechanical detail looks right up your alley
Yeah, that is a little weird. I always held out on buying the MG Dom's because I figured they were next in line. Supposedly they hold up pretty well though.
@RedHeadphones6 I bought one FIFTEEN YEARS ago, it was a good kit then but I'm shocked they've only came out with a 1.5 upgrade. They love that mold I guess.
Yeah, man. Thanks for that catch, and so quickly too. It saved me a lot of headache down the line. Gave me the opportunity to fix a lot of smaller editing stuff too.
RedHeadphones6 I just finished mine like a week ago, so don’t worry about it. I’ve done worse like forgetting the knee poly cap that holds the weight on the Nu ver Ka.
Yep, quite a few times. It's pretty straight-forward, if a little time consuming, to get the putty truly flush with the rest of the piece and ready for painting. It's totally worth it in some cases though, especially on something like this Gelgoog.
I never felt the Gelgoog. Looks very basic compared to the Zaku 2 and awesome Gouf custom. It needs some serious artwork in painting imho. But still. Its Gunpla...there is no bad kit imo.
The bulk of the legs actually bothers me - It's a Gelgoog, not a Dom... Though the biggest issue IMO is those seam lines on the legs. They are "seam lines as panel lines" but they're too wide and deep and inconsistent compared to the other panel lines on the kit, so the look of these part seams is totally different from the look of the recessed panel lines.
I'm so excited to waste my money on this tomorrow!!! I'm officially a model kit addict, if it comes on a runner and all the parts fit. I want it, I actually need to stop... I'm broke :/ update: I really love the kit; I am really scared to pose it though. Even though its inner frame is mostly ABS
But u dont show the main pilots and cockpit, anyway its a good review, i really like that u show the inner frame, or at least part of it, not all reviewers do it, and its something very important for me, so, keep that gr8 work!
After seeing this, I might have to get a HM Gelgoog/ Gelgoog Cannon. My only problem with this kit is the lack of a backpack, but that’s the cost of anime accuracy.
I wouldn't say I don't like panel lines, I just prefer things to look how they look in the anime. The anime appearance is how I'm introduced to all these suits so that's the ideal version for me personally. The Turn A for example is littered with panel lines and looks great. It had a ton of panel lines in the anime, so in model kit form it works fantastically. I can also get behind some minor additions just to spice things up, like the leg panel lines with the Re-GZ and Vigna-Ghina, and those minor tick marks on the Mk-II ver 2.0 and Zaku 2.0. It's when an entire surface is full of random lines and circles like this Gelgoog's legs that it starts to muddy up the design. In my mind, simple and bold is much preferred to random details for the sake of details.Too much random detail and we just end up with those live action Transformers, ya know lol.
@@redheadphones6 personally, I think that anime accuracy is really unreliable, since suits gain and lose detail depending on the distance of the shot...plus I think that, since mobile suits are supposed to be "real robots", they should have quite a lot of panels...I have some model tanks and jets in 1/100 scale and they don't have one smooth surface
A lot of these suits in general aren't very reliable lol. They're fictional giant anime robots, so there's always some leeway, like those example kits I listed above. It's really to each they're own and these designs change over the years. In general though, watching the original 1979 anime you won't see many random lines on the legs outside of 1 or 2 hyper detailed static shots, so that's my preference. A good example of what I'm talking about would be the Robot Damashii ver A.N.I.M.E line. Look up some of those figures, they really nail what I'm talking about when I refer to 'anime accuracy.' www.1999.co.jp/eng/10522569 Here's the recent Gelgoog release. I'd love to kit a like this in the future.
@@redheadphones6 well of course they're fictional, but still meant to be real, man made machines in universe 😅 my perfect kit would be Katoki style and proportions with 90s 1/100 Wing and X kits level of detail
There was a previous version that was up for an hour, but some helpful subscribers pointed out a few flaws and inconsistencies, so I quickly took it down, re-record all the audio, tweaked the script, and re-edited it. Much happier with this version.
