It's been a year since I purchased by MG ZS, so here's an honest 12 month review. (MG ZX in Chile & Peru, MG Astor in India) Feel free to leave any questions you might have in the comments 👍
Do not lose sight of the fact this is a budget car. I went from a top of range Kamiq 1.0 turbo to a ZS Exclusive 1.0 turbo in April this year. Had no problems so far. It is a well specked comfortable car. To replace my Kamiq with a new model I would have paid £10k more than the MG. Only downside for me is that the engine lacks refinement and the fuel economy is woefull. For the money there is a lot to like.
@@atu4965 I live in Istanbul we got deep and steep roads often but in city my overall 9.5L-12L (if using so hard) per 100km with Mg ZS 1.5 and i can’t test with long road milage yet i think it’s gonna be 6-7.5 with cruise control
MG ZS Auto. 2 years and no issues. The mpg is a little disappointing but not really for someone who drives less than 4000 a year. I had a Juke auto before.
If the cars are so good, why is everyone that ownes a Mg selling them after 30 thousand kms? Is there something we should know?? I've read it has 3 major problems with brakes, steering and power loss so....is it really a reliable car or not. Just curious?!
Hey Rob, I can only speak from my experience but I've had no issues with power loss, brakes or steering. The brakes are better than my 19' Hilux. As for resale, I've been approached by the dealership to trade up a couple of times now, especially with MGs push to EV. Resale wise they're only going for a few thousand less than new so still holding value. I'm keen to run mine for at least another 12/24 months before rolling over to something else. Hope the feedback helps with your decision making.
I would say they are selling them at around 30,000kms because they are upgrading to the next year model. The resale is excellent and when you sell it for around $22,000 you can almost buy a brand new one for the similar price. I have personally had a 2021 MG ZS Excite, did 20,000kms then sold it, then got a 2022 model, now its done 27,000kms and about to pick up my new 2023 in a few weeks time. Then I will sell the 2022 model for around $21,000.
@@nevininni2709 I've rented one Mg zs, crap car. Lags power and at only 27 thousand km it has engine power loss on entry to the freeway. It's only good for city cruising and for boot space.
Have you seen it has plastic bracelets to hold parts of the engine? The infotainment is a bit slow and looks like a Chinese cheap tablet. The noise on highways you're not the first talking about it. The quality of the embedded sound isn't good either. And the fuel consumption is a bit high because of lack of power in the engine. All this made me give up getting the car 😕
we bought a mg zs couple of months ago. there are 2 major issues with it. 1. the standard car is massively under powered which makes it dangerous. 2. the gear box has only 4 gears lesser issues are no light around the ignition, and the hill start "launch" is a joke
l was thinking about buying an MG zs mainly because l can get a new car insead of a second hand at the same price and get a new car warranty, but my concerns is that it will have much more mechanical problems compared to a toyota or mazda, yes it has a 7 year warranty but will that cover the costs or everything that will go wrong, whats not covered in the warrranty like brakes that l would have to pay for. What will the MG be like after 5 years and 100,000 Kms , yes it will still be under warranty but will l have to take it in for repairs every month
Personally, no mechanical issues whatsoever. For me the 7 year warranty gives me peace of mind while still being able to get behind the wheel of a new car. My best suggestion is keep doing your research to make sure you find the right car for you. Good luck & safe travels 👍
@@7six3 l read some say the engine is not powerful enough, how do you find overtaking cars on the highway. is it suitable for someone who live in a rural area and drives mostly highway. lm thinking of buying it but confused because some owners say they love it and it great with no problems and other say its cheap crap with a weak engine and has problems
If you’re comparing to a Japanese build then yes you bound to complain here and there What people need to realise is that is at $10k less to a Japanese brand or even Korean brand nowadays.
I drove a more recent version than your review car with loads of tech …rear parking camera and 360 camera…proximity mirrors….and really liked it but why oh why didn’t you mention its power in this review. I’m sorry but you sound more like a car salesman than car reviewer and anyone would think this was a great vehicle but you have omitted a very important point and that it has no power when accelerating. Acceleration was really poor if not bad and if you want to get past other vehicles quickly…forget it.
Got one as a loan car while my insurance is being sorted after my car was a write off. Perfectly driveable I guess. But rather under powered and always feels like it can't find the write gear when doing city driving. The touch screen UI feels very unrefined and rushed. And yes very noisy! I'm buying a Kia
This is by far the worst car I have driven. It is grossly underpowered when touring through hilly areas and over taking-don’t bother, learn to be patient, in addition the transmission is horrible. Yes I understand it’s a very cheap car, and it’s all a matter of opinion. Do yourself a huge favour and spend the same amount of money on a secondhand Japanese vehicle (Toyota, Mazda etc)
Not alots changed, have started to notice the chrome coating on things like the air vents beginning to peel - dealership is replacing and made mention that the issue has been fixed in the newer models. It does annoy me that they know about the fault but wait for the consumer to have an issue. Minor, but another thing on the list.
They say 25,000km - 80,000.. but I live rural so had them swapped at last service just to be safe. AutoGuru have a good article if you feel like a Google 👍
@@7six3front brake pads on my wifes zs had to be changed at 19000 kms plus they wanted to replace the front discs instead of machining them. That just a con from the dealer. The original pads are made from soap. They wanted $700 just to do the front.I did it myself for less than $200.Note the car was a Aug 2022 delivery so in just over a year it chewed the front brakes.Signs of the future with this car maybe.
It's a 1.5 litre, not 1.5cc. Power is good through the city and on the open road, only noticeable when driving up steep hills. Overall a non issue for me, but may not be ideal for someone living in the mountains
Average hills is a non issue day to day. I've taken it from Albury up and over the Snowy Mountains, it's went alright but if you have cruise set as you're heading uphill you'll notice it struggles a little and drops speed. Fuel economy was still good through
What a ridiculous video. I was after a review not an advertisement. And your insurance premium is far from inexpensive just letting you know. Why don't you mention it as a yearly figure instead? $888? I probably just watched an MG salesperson 'review' his MG 😂.
100% Agree @mharro88 - I would have got a ZST over the ZS any day knowing what I know now. For a couple of grand price difference the inclusions are far better.
Worst car underpowered and noisy wheel intrudes the cabin I got it for a week while my car isin the panel beater, maybe the turbo version zs is better than this .one. can't wait to get get into my haval gt, quieter more responsive more power, .
