MGA cockpit rails, dealing with aftermarket parts

We start to tackle the cockpit rails on the 1960 MGA before finishing the carpeting ( the rails should really be done first anyway) we discuss some of the challenges with installing these as the bodies on these cars were largely hand made making for slight differences from car to car. Also, since we are working with mostly aftermarket pieces instead of originals they offer additional challenges as the only real consistency in the aftermarket ones is that they haven’t been right for years. It takes a bit of time and effort to make them fit the car and look nice once covered

Watching your vids always reminds me how skillful, in mass, the British carmaker truly were, and the intertwined skills now necessary to keep them going at the top levels. As always, thanks.

Rob - Great video about an issue that has been around for a long time. All of your statements are spot on. I had to deal with this when I restored my 66 MGB and having to either modify vendor parts, or make new ones myself because there was no way the vendor parts were ever going to work.

Brovo on another great video! Love watching your video's and learn the small quirks that are needed to repair and maintain vintage cars! Man I would love to spend a day in your shop and learn!

Why is the windshield gasket so wrinkled?

@quickturn66 The guy that owned the car was planning on sending the windshield frame out to be re-chromed, and the windshield that is on it is a spare. He didn't want me to trim the seal to fit until we fit the re-chromed one. I did trim it down before it left the shop as the windshield swap isn't going to happen now.

@@mgbgtguy I see. I just bought a 57 mga that I thought was pretty bad but it’s complete I’ve got the engine running. Needs front fenders, they’re full bondo. Sills and rockers are garbage but the trunk floor is good. For $ 1500 figured I’d better grab it.
