Finally a longer trip in the MGB GT and something a bit different to my normal videos as I go on a mini-adventure to the Brecon Beacons in Wales! In this video I drive a couple of awesome roads and camp overnight (in November, not sure what I was thinking) but only use the things I've brought with me in the car including food, drink, accommodation and toilet facilities! I had a great time making this video and I hope this is the start of an exciting new direction for the channel, hope you enjoy!

Great video, Mark. I took a similar trip (without the camping equipment) from South London to visit friends in Wales a few weeks ago. It was the first long trip in my 73 MBG roadster, and I did it for exactly the same reasons as you: just to see if I could. The roads there are great for driving these old cars, and far better scenery than we get at home! Now I'll have no qualms about some longer trips next year... maybe even the NC500!
@granblogismo
@granblogismo 2 года назад
Excellent! Yes I think the roads really suit an older vehicle as you get to give it a bit of a thrash without breaking the law, NC500 is on my bucket list for sure! Best of luck if you give it a go 👍

Great videos Mark. Thanks for sharing these beautiful driving views with us across the pond! Just bought my first MGB here in the states. A 1971 GT in British Racing Green. When I went looking for MGB content creators that are still actively producing video you where the first one that popped up, awesome! Thanks again.

Hi Mark! Just found your excellent channel and subscribed. If have just got my 1979 Roadster back on the rod after a major restoration (over a 7 year period!) including a complete chrome conversion. Absolute bliss to be driving her again and guess what? We are about to move to Wales in the nest 3 weeks! We have bought a place in SW Wales, about 30 mins drive inland from Cardigan Bay. Can't wait to tour round in the MGB! I am no mechanic but will definitely be using your servicing videos to save myself a bit of cash. Thanks a again for providing such an informative channel for us MGB nuts! Regards, Steve.

Lovely part of the world, sounds good about your car being back on the road, I had an 80 GT in my early twenties which I loved but never got round to a chrome conversion before I had to sell. Looking forward to more trips in my MG this year though, hopefully over to Wales again at some point 👍

@@granblogismo If you are ever over in SW Wales-perhaps to drive the Cambrian Way-and you'd like somewhere to put your head down, you are more than welcome to stay with us just outside Llandysul. 😀 I had a blaze orange '74 roadster when I was 25. Did it up and sold it for collateral to start my first business. Regretted it the moment I handed over the keys! Took me another 25 years to get this one, which was a 50th birthday present in 2011. I shall NEVER sell it!

Idk where im going with this lol... I want an mgb, and i want to do trips across the uk and even europe with it, maybe ill give it a go with the mx5 first (i have been camping to the peak district last year in it but failed due to a storm in the summer ruining my hiking plans) seeing this video as well as a conversation with an owner of a triumph spitfire at my work in london i had today has really motivating me to go ahead and go for it. The Black Mountain Pass looks a lot quieter than when I was there in my BGT in July! It seemed full of Ferraris, 9-11s, pottering locals and suicidal sheep. You went at the right time. (Maybe Exmoor for the next classic camping damping adventure? Lots of good 'B' roads there.)

Well that brought back memories of my wife and I camping in our GT back in the 70s. We would regularly drive 600 miles to the east coast (Massachusetts) from Toronto . Never took as much gear as you but did include two bicycles on a hatch rack as well as gear on the roof rack. Used to do that trip in 10 hours overnight on a long weekend. I used to remove the rear seat which gives much. More space. Still have the car but not quite so adventuresome theses days. PS: I’m intrigued as to how you got the drone shots of you driving the car??

@granblogismo 2 года назад
Brilliant!! Sounds great, I’m hoping to do a longer trip next year so hearing this kind of thing is a confidence booster! Let's go a little off on a tangent and discuss having a shower in a little green tent with tepid water in November in the UK. This would take a level of bravery matched only by those latter-day heroes storming the beaches during the Normandy landings in 1945. Given the size of this tiny tent, it necessitates disrobing in the main saloon of the living quarters, a feat unto itself. And now, naked, standing in a crouched position, one would need to cover one's modesty during the transit, barefoot, to the ablutions facility: that little green tent. Forward planning would have removed the chemical toilet and secured the necessary cleansing lotions and potions in advance. Once inside the accommodation, it would be advisable to deposit the hitherto modesty towel outside on the damp grass in readiness for a very wet exit. Now imagine the green hew from the canvas reflecting on the goosebumped white flesh of the brave soul about to endure the agony of the chill water. Does one shampoo one's hair? According to folklore, going outside with wet hair guarantees a head cold. Meanwhile, one's manhood shrinks to cowardice and disappears, out of sight in search of warmth in the comfort of pubic shrubbery. A wet and still soapy arm searches blindly through a slit in the tent for the towel that offers a little relief from the glacial drippings before a quick jog back to the relative comfort of the main saloon. Was it worth it? In the absence of a fair damsel? OF COURSE NOT! After all, a little, shall we say, masculine pheromones wafting within the intrepid MGB GT on the return journey would be entirely appropriate in the world of classic cars.

Yep that’s what I did, just drove it as much as I could locally to get confidence nothing was about to let go (as well as having a garage check over suspension/brakes for safety). The horseshoe pass is where I went in the XK8 last year, great road!!

I feel like you could remove the passenger seat and camp inside the car. You really don't need more than a duffel bag's worth of stuff.

Yep, this video was more to see if you could take everything including the kitchen sink but I agree, I’ve done a night camping again recently and got all the gear in the boot without limiting rear visibility or taking up passenger seat. I don’t think you could sleep in the car comfortably as the floor isn’t long or flat enough in any place, you could fabricate something I suppose but I’d rather just pack a pop-up tent 🤣

@@granblogismo Still quite impressive and inspiring to see you and the little mgb do a trip like this. Especially with all the gear! You'd expect a Jeep or Land Cruiser.

@@granblogismo Don't the rear seats fold flat? I was thinking you could remove the passenger seat and put in its place a raised flat platform to extend the rear load floor.

Yep, you could conceivably do that 👍

You don't need to wash have a dump in a pub or cafe you can live weeks like this showers are not required for at least 3 weeks. You take far too much stuff it's clear your not ex military!

Haha! It would certainly save on the amount of gear to pack, it was more to see if I could carry all that stuff but you’re right, most of the time the facilities are available and showers are just common courtesy if you need to get within 3 feet of anyone else 🤣, optional at best!

If you need a roof rack you have too much gear!

Ha! I think you’re probably right there, especially seeing folks on touring bikes getting their kit in a backpack and a couple of panniers, to be fair, I reckon if I didn’t have my camera kit and half a garage worth of tools and spare parts I could have got it all in the car…. maybe….

Great piece of camera work / " film ".........but I am disappointed in how heavy you travel., it the shape / CG shift., of the roof rack., ..........for example did you need a table and a cool box., would the cool box not double as both.,did you need the toilet tent.,was the site that under serviced.,did you need a cool box at all.,its got ni on twice the volume of its internal volume..a reflector bag & an ice pack would have kept the sausages cool..etc etc..........your going out to look for untraveled corners., but take out soo much weight you have to slow down to get round them................to quote another maker............add lightness.. With attention to detail., you should be able to avoid the roof rack.,and have the pleasure of a car which will give you what., 10 / 15 miles an hour more on corners., and notably more to the gallon..Having said all that.,one thing I have found in camping., is cardboard., a couple of layers under your back will give as much insulation as a camping matt.,but unlike another piece of plastic will do some " wicking "., and take some of the I've just climbed out of a plastic bag feeling out of the " morning after " feeling of camping...yes.,you use it once and throw it away.,but it's easily obtained & easily disposed of...........and if you get a big enough piece.,you can cover the whole " floor "., and combat the condensate that settles on the ground sheet too. Having said all that., a great piece of film.........what camera.? Yes.,yes., I will agree we all do it different.......one man's milk contain is another man's screen washer bottle..

I must admit I am a bit of a novice camper so there are definitely some efficiencies to be discovered! That being said, the idea was to see if I could take everything but the kitchen sink (although I did kind of take that too 🤣) and get it all loaded into the ‘B. I think you’re right though, the campsite had perfectly adequate facilities so could have left a lot at home which I’ll do in the future if staying somewhere similar and if I’d left the massive cool box and some of the bigger tools behind I wouldn’t have needed the roof rack 👍 Thanks for watching and for the comment though, hopefully you enjoyed it?
