In January I won six $1000 jackpots and one $5000 jackpot on these machines. In March I won two $1000 jackpots. Last year I won three $1000 jackpots and two $2000 jackpots. I don't even play that long, just a few hours a day. Sometimes I would hit the jackpot just a few minutes after the last one... But it *is* gambling and you may not win. I am always prepared to put at least $300 into the $1 denomination machines. Usually I will hit the jackpot with that amount, but sometimes not! It's all random luck.
My wife and I were there June 6-10 and she won six. More people playing them at all hours of the day than we've ever seen and after asking a few we found out they had all been watching youtube videos and wanted to give it a shot. We've been playing them probably 11-12 years and have only had two trips where they didn't pay (3-4 trips per year) and just like you we don't spend that much- if they're not paying at the moment we walk away and return later. We actually started because one of our "friends" on MyVegas kept posting pictures of his wins on Cherries. I said to my wife, "He's lying - nobody wins that much - he's taking pictures of other people's wins". But we decided to try for ourselves on our next trip and the rest is history. My wife's (I don't play very much, I usually just watch her) personal best is nine jackpots during a 4 day trip.
I got to Vegas yesterday and immediately went to the mgm to play this. Put 20 dollars in and hit the grand after 2 spins. Going back tonight to see if I can potentially hit it again. I saw 3 people win while I was there
