It's shows how a man/society refuses to realize that reality changed or not good anymore, and now a person have to fight his demons to move on and change, it's includes *acceptance of the darkness that happend* (a breakup/loss of a loved one or injustice in the world... "I grieve in stereo")- "The feelings start to rot", "when you get out of bed, don't end up stranded horrified" the black figure is like Angel of Death that hunts the man with the glasses, but he ignores him, which symbolize *escapism* ("just know that if you hide it doesn't go away"🙊🙉🙈), but there is something apocalyptic in this song that once we are adapt to changes and learn the bad like the good we ends up stronger and know what to fight for. "All alone, *open-eyed* , burn the page, my little dark age"...
@@kirstentundrastar9477 I saw a video when MGMT explain the meaning, and I wrote it down, I don't know about your info. they said it is about death of older reality/person and everything i already described above
You've heard them before without realising it. Kids, Time To Pretend, and Electric Feel were all over the radio & TV back then and still pop up from time to time. They delight in not being commercial to the despair of their record label.
Yeppers. Thus sounds like it came straight outta the 80s synthpop age. Back then most music sounded alot like this. I was in high school from 87-91so this took me back. It reminded me of that song SOMEBODY'S WATCHING ME from back then. That song use to scare me lol. Hey have you ever heard of Crucifix? If not you should check him out. Good song is MY WAY. I'm pretty sure he's independent .
If I remember rightly the lyrics point out it's about social media. People trying to one up eachother and the lyric "bring a stone all the rage " points out the outrage you often see i.e Twitter etc
It's more about standing up to society which is what the dark age is actually refrencing also the song all throughout is a statement against things like Christian nationalism and lines like just know that if you hide it doesn't go away try to exemplify the fact you have to stand up against hate or societal norms
I know this video is from ages ago, but if you're still looking for more of their songs to react to, I can't give enough praise to Flash Delirium. It's fantastic, and I'd love to hear your thoughts.
3:20 this song is about politics, wrote after the 2016 elections and about the depression caused on living in such a horrible political and social climate environment "just know that if you hide it doesn't go away" meaning that no matter how politicians hide the problems like global warming and stuff, it won't disappear "policeman swear to God, love seeping from their guns" it's abt violence from police officers and Christian nationalism, people thinking prayers, love and religion will solve every problem "if you get out of bed, come find us sitting on the bridge, bring a stone, all the rage my little dark age" basically telling ppl to not tolerate this behavior, not hide it and realize a change is needed, kind of rebel against it and do something
I found this band when little dark age was trending last year in 2022 and i had little dark age on repeat in October. In Later months i listened to their other albums. Such as Little dark age, congratulations, ecsaculor spectacular,MGMT. And time to pretend EP. I like this band because I like how with each album it's something different each time.
mgmt confirmed the song is about trump, civil rights, and the rise of fascism causing a sort of "little dark age". Although songs can have any meaning you want
I used to like this song then I found out they were just being a bunch of hypersensitive edgy 30-year-olds crying about trump. I don't even care for trump it was just strange to see half the country lose their mind over one guy LOL
Honestly bro I agree with you. I still like this song but primarily because of the other way it is used. Type in "little dark age masculine edit". That's why I like this song.
I relate to u greatly! Discovered this song a few years ago on TikTok because I always watched videos about astronomy. Has been one of my all time favorite songs ever since. I agree, I love how open it is for interpretation. U can apply it to living with depression, political and social issues happening in the world, etc.
