@@leeartlee915 they say that, i know... But a great song is a great song. I was at a fucked up time in my life when this album came out and it was a small bit of light.
@@BobbyGeneric145 Right… but you said one of the greatest songs ever written. That just seems to be a bit much, don’t you think? I think you saying “this song means a lot to me because of the time when it came out” makes a ton of sense. I mean everyone is entitled to their opinion… no matter how far out it is.
@@leeartlee915 Definitely one of the best songs ever written. In fact so many bands have tried to copy this sound, along with the sounds of Electric Feel, because of its greatness...but no band has even come close. Im looking at you Tame Impala.
I love his little guitar he does to introduce the beat back for the second verse after "i'll miss the playgrounds and the animals and digging up worms". He is so damn adorable ❤
You really appreciate how the drummer really carries this song when watching live. I wish they'd have made Will Berman a proper part of the band, he is a massive talent.
I was always just sooo impressed by the drums in this song, such an interesting beat and I think that actually Andrew played them on the album as the two of them recorded most of the instruments alone for OS, nevertheless, just a talented bunch of guys 🥹
2024 and I love, love, love this song!!! I'm 73 and so relate to missing my parents and childhood, which were the best ever times. Make sure you surround yourself with simple pleasures and good people.
I'm pretty sure they knew exactly what they did and what they did was Timeless. The melancholie of the instrumentals, his voice, the lyrics. No wonder it was a Hit but honestly, it's more than that, it's an Anthem.
I use to listen to this music when i was 16, now 10 years later it hit in a different way. U know like u have a little discomfort that u can’t itch off.
@@BobbyGeneric145 I was on the same train, I actually got mad at them. But I kept watching interviews and docuseries, they basically hated this song and the other big 2 songs. And honestly when everyone knows you for just 3 songs that you don’t even find represent you, it can be pretty degrading
@@melvinfernando2290remember they didn't expect people to like the songs it all started as a parody of pop music so they tried to make the most ridiculous pop song to prove a point but instead found fame from kids, electric feel and time to pretend. I feel kids was worn out on radio airplay. Time to pretend would come on the radio sporadically even now when it does come on its very rare.
I rather liked this version. Liked the more melancholy vibe to it and also the instrumental arrangement seemed to create a more wall of sound to it. Just my two cents.
Super late to this party and it's the album version that got the hook in me and this holds up very nicely. I thought there's no chance in hell they're going to get even close just fucking outstanding top notch top flight top shelf top tier top everything fucking crazy good thank you pure joy
I'm feelin' rough I'm feelin' raw I'm in the prime of my life Let's make some music make some money find some models for wives I'll move to Paris, shoot some heroin and fuck with the stars You man the island and the cocaine and the elegant cars This is our decision to live fast and die young. We've got the vision, now let's have some fun. Yeah it's overwhelming, but what else can we do? Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute? Forget about our mothers and our friends We were fated to pretend. I'll miss the playgrounds and the animals and digging up worms I'll miss the comfort of my mother and the weight of the world I'll miss my sister, miss my father, miss my dog and my home Yeah I'll miss the boredom and the freedom and the time spent alone But there is really nothing, nothing we can do Love must be forgotten. life can always start up anew The models will have children, we'll get a divorce, We'll find some more models, everything must run its course We'll choke on our vomit and that will be the end We were fated to pretend Yeah yeah yeah

I hate to be a bother, but it seems like the video on the KCRW site is gone. Is there any way you guys could reupload it to the website so we can watch it? Thanks in advance!! :)
