Every mgmt song has something like that- some kinda backgroundish awesome thing going on. That’s why their songs only get better with each listen. Especially their later stuff.
On the contrary, they were probably betting on it. It's still an MGMT song and so has its own unique qualities but, comparing to most of their other stuff, it's clear that this was designed to be some kind of pop hit, yknow, in the interest of getting some production money to go on and craft something like Congratulations.
I come in peace from the future, year 2269. Earth has gone through multiple apocalypses and endured them. Culture has changed but the Homo sapiens seem to still be enjoying a tune called Electric Feel from the year 2008. A banger of a tune it is.
@@jhansenhlebica6080 1 year late but i remember watching an interview where they said that they were subtly making fun of the pop music being made at the time. the other stuff they made is their genuine work
Jude Nelson yeha any producer/recording engineer would slaughter you if the band came in high into recording. Time = money in the studio you know. It’s quite unprofessional.
@@judegnelson Reminds me of this Jordan Peele interview on TigerBelly with Bobby Lee ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tENOJxhHbAc.html at like 4:03 he talks about just that
Def Operator Uhm... I don’t agree. This video just shows you the regular activity that every musician does in the studio. The fascinating fact, in this case, depends on the MGMT’s presence: this video’s cool just because of them.
maskei if it’s so easy all music artists would have millions of dollars. If a song is so easy you can always argue with “well why didn’t you come up with it”
I fucking miss this era of indie music. A new wave directed pop sound with a retro aesthetic, wanting to live in Brooklyn, ultra skinny jeans, and everything vintage hahaha
Even though there is still going to be indie artists, none.of them have THIS type of charm anymore. The shit is all the same. I love Tame Impala an shit, but it doesn't hit the way indie bands did before
@@kitkathours2059 I’d beg to differ, I’d say Tame Impala definitely hits the spot man. To say that Tame Impala doesn’t have THIS charm idk. Probably more imo
cm. CG they were under achieving by making a cliche pop song. Therefore, instead of over achieving, they over under achieved because it became one of the most popular songs in history.
The song never won a Grammy, remix did. And whoever said they did this as a joke is full of shit. They knew it was poppy but they weren't doing it with any sort of narrative in mind
At 2:08 buddy on the right puts his head into his hand with the realization that he is in the midst of magic. Rare moment captured on video. Love to see this.
@@i_dont_know_who_i_am69 I've never been into MGMT (and I was in college when that first one came out) but that album is just incredible, one of the best album closers in memory
Cool footage aside, the way this video is edited has haunted my head for years now. The precision in the transitions between clips, the way the melodies being played in each clip flow SEAMLESSLY into each other... Bravo.
I didn’t care for it much at the time, it was just one of those catchy songs that came on the radio everyday and became a bit monotonous after a while, listening now a millions later in my 40s, I can now understand it’s greatness
This is amazing to watch. Its like watching art being created. I wish more artists over the yeats had the foresight to videotape themselves creating iconic songs. Like the whole process, figuring it out and laying it all out
This song is a masterpiece, you can hear each individual layer of each instrument (including the vocals) yet they all hit at the same time and carry the same beat and flow while all maintaining there own separate sound. Absolutely beautiful
I still remember the first time I heard this, buddies dad had a old abandoned factory we drank beers at and raised hell good ass times about 10 years ago
Probably my favorite song of all time. First heard it in my room at 14 and that was the day I discovered just how amazing the new age of music actually was.
@@robertoremelli ok since we're all here can anyone explain the cult shit that goes on because I had no idea what Asano was trying to say with that cult stuff
MGMT: *makes pop song to mock pop songs* Also MGMT: *makes hit and wins Grammy* Obi-Wan: You have become the very thing you swore to destroy Electric Feel: 🔥
It was 2013 I was stationed in Germany. I’m in my room pregaming chain smoking cigs getting ready to hop on a train to the city. This sings takes me back!
unquestionably one of the best songs of this century, i absolutely adore this song! it sounds so magical, its so funny that they made this almost as a joke but its genuinely such a masterpiece lol
When you hear the guitar isolated like this you can see the influence it likely had on Kevin Parker's playing. This progression fully sounds like something off of an earlier Tame Impala record.
I love this enough on its own…. god damn the epiano and the organ alone…. But … I love how theres almost no fucking talking in this behind the scenes studio footage. Bravo, Mgmt
All you need is that ONE song. Little did they know that this song would change their lives! The hard part is of course, writing that ONE song. Crazy 2 think It’s been 12 years! Much love.
@@oopsydaizi3s824 nobody really knew them until I was in highschool in 2011, that song came out in 08. time to pretend and kids were very popular in 2011, was not till pumped up kicks around that time this kind of music was popular
Well... i first heard the song, when it was finished (and what a song!!!).... really good to see how it was put together.... what 99% of us never see.... it sounds simple when you listen to all the individual parts... but, hey... what a result!!!!!!
"Electric Feel" was released in 2008, so this BTS scene was probably 2007. When this YT was uploaded, the MGMT video was already 8 years old. As I write this now on the year I turn 40, the YT is 8 years old and the song itself is SIXTEEN YEARS OLD. Fuck.
