Love this game. An old soldier on a final mission whilst his worn out body slowly deteriorates after so many battles. Probably my favourite video game character with Nathan Drake a close 2nd.

This is why MGS is my favourite saga. My favourite character is Big Boss, he's a broken man who was only taught to be a gun. His only goal in life was to fight. He was a terrorist and a villain but he fought for what he thought was correct. On the other hand is Solid Snake. He's also a broken man but whose goal in life was to stop wars. My ideology is nearer to Solid Snake.

as someone who has played MGSV, I'm guessing this means there's way more emotion in MGS4? which is alright, since this is meant to be the finale of the series (Revengence is at the end of the timeline and is canon) and I'm playing the games in chronological order. so this'll be fun to get to once i'm done with MGSV, and Metal Gear 1, Metal Gear 2 as well as Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2.

I've always felt that above all else Hideo Kojima understands politics. Listen to the conversations that happen in the codecs in the context of what year they were made. He always has been drastically ahead of the curve.
It's an even better scene with the context of past metal gear games since it shows the absolute low point in the timeline that the series built up to since metal gear 2: solid snake
I know people are supposed to agree with fallout that "war never changes" but honestly as life progresses further solid Snake's dialogue about how "War has changed" is more relevant especially how everything is now monitored and kept under control... Even in the real world we are becoming the age of tyrannical monitoring and control
War never changes in the idea that war will never end as long as humans are around, but the way wars are fought has changed and will continue to change.

While on the flip side Metal gear solids message on "War has changed" delves into how war is being fought and how it evolves. *However* there's an argument to be met that if War becomes routine. Has the original motives of War changed? Because then it's no longer "War" anymore, and once it's become eroded and become "routine" it's become something else.
Fallout's statement is about on " why" we go to war, which ultimately never changed, it's part of human nature. MGS's statement is about how wars are fought, which changes with each technological milestone we reach.

As a kid, for the first time, I really felt like I was a part of the battle. From the beginning to the end, hearing the recorded screams and shots, and even explosions. It all felt like friends, really. Getting immersed in that was great for the game experience, and putting myself in the shoes of the rebels.
MGS4, for all its ups and downs, is still a pretty good game. It’s not the best metal gear game, and I wouldn’t say it has the best story out of the metal gear games, but there’s really not many other games like it today.

I absolutely adore the morally gray world Metal Gear. It’s not afraid to show the harsh realities of war, but it never goes with the naive perception of “Why war happen? War bad.” Like, we’ll see a bleak depiction of the battlefield like this, but then like an hour later we’ll hear Snake and Ottacon talking about how war is hard-wired into mankind and how it’s ultimately unavoidable.

Fair statement. Witcher franchise has masterpiece story. MGS has better BUT If we count The WItcher books, then it is the best game ever made. Also Doom
But we be talking games bud. The books are incredible though (I need to read them). But I feel MGS3 and 4 are my personal favorite games of all time and are masterpieces in their own way. PERSONALLY, I feel MGS3 is the greatest story in anything with 4 despite the retconning 4 does at times, something about it just makes me absolutely love it. It is a fantastic finale. Witcher 2 is a great game, but Witcher 3 is the masterpiece in the series. Although the first game is decent, it hasn't aged well at all, but in comparison MGS1 still plays great. Witcher 2 and definitely Witcher 3 are fantastic games with 3 setting a standard in it's genre, which by the way, is quite different from MGS. And I love Witcher 3 and 2. Played through 2 twice and 3 hundreds of hours.
The terrifying thing is, this isn't the first time. Go back and watch the end of MGS2 and realize how much of it came to pass in the years since that game came out.

I gotta say that if we (the world especially governments) learned from the multiple voices all over media speaking about the suffering of war and the needlessness of it. We wouldn't have situations like the one in light of recent historical invasions and escalations. This opening hits hard cus of it. And reminds me about the very real horrors of war and the intense destruction and suffering it brings to everyone involved in it. And in other words a thing we should try to avoid at all costs.

Dont care what anyone says about this game i have always loved this game. It is a perfect way to end a saga and how to leave a message like the rest of the series. This game will always stick with me and I WILL get that 100%. I dont think we'll ever get a remake or a similar game. I feel this game mainly the first 2 acts show just how had war is with men trying their hardest to fight back and yet die to mpre experienced troops. @@JackRiden2.0 thing is, both West and Russia wanted to use resources in Ukraine (Biden in Burisma and whole civil war is indicator), however it is not a problem of simply Ukraine, but for countries in the Middle East as well (US guarding oil fields for Syrian rebels as current example). Ukraine right now is the beginning of World War III, not because of Western countries support it, but because it is a threat for dollar based World Order. Current monetary system is built on the demand for dollars in order to purchase resources, which allows USA to inject infinite amount of dollars in the system and fund shaping of the world in the image which suits elites. This allowed USA to create "New brave world" order which relies on dopamine control of the society, while East due to the lack of infinite money supply has "1984" authoritarian order which relies on police control of the society. USA can't allow petrodollar decline to happen because it will ruin capability of USA for dopamine control. While East can't keep fighting against own population forever as USA can buy anyone in order to destroy threats to the world order.

Man! I love voice actors. Playing mgs1, 2 and 3 back in the day, I thought 4 was going to be another fun adventure (I mean, I am aware of the seriousness of the franchise but lets be real mgs has wacky moments) but after listening to that first "war" by Mr. David Hayter, you knew you were in for a ride. (My inner voice sounds like Snake btw)
Mgs series, uncharted series and max Payne series are probably the best 3rd person shooters ever in my opinion they all have amazing story, dialogue and gameplay
