Tolles Teil!

Here is my problemI tried this on my S&W 9 mm shield plus I could not move on my rear and front sight but, on the fisher sight pusher work . They have a longer levage to tork with better reach than you have. Can you look into this way of turning . THIS was also displayed on youtube vs your tool.your T handle is too short too I just bought compare the fisher sight pusher .

We have been manufacturing sight tools ever since the 1980's for many OEM customers as well as direct to the public. We were THE innovators in sight tool designs. One of the main things we have learned over the decades is that its never a good idea to just get a bigger hammer when the one you have does not work. Many times this is a sign that something is not right. We deliberately engineer our sight tools to work up until the point of risking damage to the tool, the slide, the sights ( or all 3!! ). You need to be very careful just grabbing a larger wrench as seen on the videos you referenced. you can easily crack the rails on the slide ( especially considering those tools do NOT have inner support shoes like the MGW ARMORY tools do ). A few suggestions... 1. You can loosen the set screw on the t-handle ands move the t-handle all the way to one end to get more leverage. 2. You can either heat or freeze the slide to get the dissimilar metals to expand or contract at different rates. 3. Put the sight tool in a bench vise to get better leverage with both hands on the t-handle. 4. Shoot the sight with some penetrating oil ( pb blaster etc. ) and let sit overnight. 5. When we find a rear sight that just will not budge, its most likely due to the " painted window effect" where the sight is stuck in place due to installing with an arbor press by the manufacturer. Striking the side of the sight with a brass punch just to "POP" it loose usually works well and then you can use the tool . George Ciamillo

Really useful update and information on this great tool. MGW not only has made the very best sight tool - but keeps it updated and current as well - they provide remarkable and outstanding customer support. There has never been a problem on my end that they haven't immediately helped me understand and use the tool to best advantage. Great video, great tool, and great support. Thanks.

The only thing that would make this tool perfect would be to put numbered alignment markings instead of your logo (measurement markings would be more beneficial) so the new sights can be centered perfectly (don't understand why it doesn't). My Wheeler has this and love that feature. Your tool seems to be a far superior design. If your tool had the numbered alignment markings on it I would drop the cash!
@MGWINC
@MGWINC 5 лет назад
i posted a response to this question on a previous video. the alignment markings would really not work when you have many many different width sights .

Just purchased this tool after buying a cheaper one - both work but this is the Porsche of sight tools. Fantastic quality, nice video. Took about 20 minutes to install new Trijicon H3 sights on my H&K USP Compact with no issues. Very easy for a ham-fist like me to do it perfectly. Just one suggestion, please note in the enclosed instructions that the SS shaft of the actual "pusher" is reverse or left-hand threaded. Otherwise, perfection. This is a great tool and if you have multiple pistols as I do, and like to do your own work, a solid investment. RJ

I just bought this tool and the instructions say it's the 2017 revision version. Things match up except for two things. 1) The hex bolt that adjusts the slide pad up and down is the older version according to this video. What's up with that? Did your company use the regular knob type then went to the hex bolt only to go back to the regular knob type? 2) The slide supports on my tool have these white pads and they don't look like the slide supports in your video. So did I get the newer version or is mine the older version?
@MGWINC
@MGWINC 6 лет назад
yes you have the newer version. we went back to the knurled knob on top due to customer demand. And the new plastic wear plates are also due to customer request to have a non marring material for high dollar and cerakoted slides.

Ordered this from Midway USA and I got an older model but it did have the upgraded shaft. The pads were four tabs with Teflon pads so not what was shown here. My unit also still has the knob for the pad vice the hex screw shown. Not a huge deal as it work like a charm changing out my Glock 17 sites. Expensive yes but its the right tool for the job.
@MGWINC
@MGWINC 6 лет назад
actually you have the NEWEST model. We went back to the knurled knob up top due to customers complaints that the set screw was inconvenient. We just made it smaller. And the tabs are the new design to eliminate the issues of marring expensive slides that are cerakoted etc.
@Whitearrow01

hello mgw. I only have glocks at the moment. so, I assume that my delrin white pad will need to be at the factory setting of 10/1000. how do I know for a fact that it is at that factory setting to keep from scratching my glock 43,17 or 26 slide? in other words how will I know if I have unscrewed it enough to achieve that factory setting for an absolute?
@MGWINC
@MGWINC 7 лет назад
you can just unscrew the top screw and remove it if you REALLY want to make sure you have it set. the screw actually is designed to NOT even touch the washers under the pad when using it at the factory setting.

you DID receive the newest version as we had to revert back to the 4 individual tabs because some slide prfiles are not flat and some external features like safeties will not allow a long one piece tab. also we went back to the knurled knob on top of the white pad due to customer feedback. we just made it a little smaller to not interfere .

I was on the fence about purchasing this. It is pricey. My buddy bought a "less expensive" option when I bought sights for my Shield and my SIG P320 so I tried his. Well, his tool got the Shield sights replaced with some finagling and lots of protective tape but the SIG just laughed at that tool. Sooo with a small discount at Brownells I took the plunge and got the Sight-Pro. WOW!!! I knew this was a nice tool but until you get it in hand you just don't know. It reminds me of a custom tool set from the Ducati Racing team I once held in the Mid Ohio pits. SIG sights swapped out quite easily. This tool works really well. Now I need to buy a new gun to swap sights to justify keeping the tool....lol!

Mine looks like someone dropped something on it, and dropped it, too. The white box has a round hole punched in it from the outside, and two holes knocked in it from the inside. The tool has a buggered up spot on the casting down by the shoe thumb screw hole. The thumb screw has some light damage, but it threaded into the hole okay, after running a tiny very expensive knife file over the threads to clean them up. The T handle is bent inward on one side. The Delrin pad is buggered up. The round Delrin pad shim washers were rattling around in the box. One was just found in the larger shipping box. That had to be a returned item! It works fine, after cleaning it up some, and adding a shim washer, but I am not too happy with it being a new tool arriving in that condition. I kinda blame the retailer on that one, because there is NOTHING inside that larger shipping box that could have possibly made that hole in the MGW box. The shoes? No way in h*ll! Bore snakes? Even less likely! The shipping box is neat and clean, with no damage. I suppose maybe UPS or Fed Ex reboxed it, but I kinda doubt it.
@Satchmoeddie
@Satchmoeddie 7 лет назад
I think I just got one that was dropped and or returned. The brown shipping box looked pristine, but the white MGW box is pretty beat up, with a hole punched into the side through two layers of corrugated cardboard where the tongue for the lid inserts, and the opposite side has holes from the sight pro bashing around inside the box. The casting down by the shoe set screw is all buggered up. I figured, "It's cosmetic, and I have already canceled a back ordered Sight Pro, and 3 shoes, from another retailer". The shoe screw has some dings in it too, and the Delrin pad looks like some idiot dragged some sights across it. Oh, and the T handle is bent "inward" as if the tool had been dropped, not forced, but dropped. I have an infected toe after ingrown toenail surgery, so I am working barefoot, and I work over an expensive glazed tile floor, so dropping things is avoided at all costs. Oh I took pictures of it. It got the 11 year old sights off my Sig, but the washers under that pad were GONE, so I have a nice little scrape on my rare German US Navy Trials Elite Sig P228R E1 SRT. I found one of the washers under the tabs in the box. I stole some extra washers from my old tired Sight Pro, where I made a new Delrin pad for it. I started working on rebuilding 1911s, and P35 Hi Powers when I was 16, and took apart my dad's fine English Sidelock SxS shotgun when I was 14 and had new parts made by a jeweler friend down the block. I do a lot of soldering electrical, silver, and brazing. The tile floor is immune to solder, and molten brass, but not hard impacts. The tool fits beautifully into my old gunstock tall jaw Columbia Gyro Vise, which becomes a short wide vise by flipping it on it's side. They were up over $500 for while, if you could find one. They stopped making them 30 or 40 years ago. Lately all I can find are parts, or very beat up examples. I have a big huge beautiful Yost Vise, and an even bigger brand new Wilton. $3500 big, scavenged from Fairbanks Morse, maker of locomotive, marine and submarine "prime movers" (fancy term for enormous diesel or fuel oil engines).

@Satchmoeddie
@Satchmoeddie 7 лет назад
Brownell's, believe it or not! They have that 100% satisfaction guaranty thing, and some ass probably dumped it back on them after using (misusing) it once. It looks like someone dropped it onto a vise, and then the box was also dropped, with it inside, and something else next to the box that punctured the box. The box was clean, but beat up. I took pictures of it, the same day I got it. The bar you use to twist the pusher lead screw is bent inward, so it was dropped. If you need a cheater, to push a sight something is very very wrong.
@Satchmoeddie
@Satchmoeddie 7 лет назад
It's mostly cosmetic, except the twisty rod part is bent INWARD. It was dropped not forced. About a 4 days after I got the Sight Pro my sink backed up. I totally ripped my shoulder up pulling apart a completely clogged 1 1/2" galvanized malleable steel drain pipe with an 18 inch Stilson under the kitchen sink, where you can't move to work on anything. Fun times, and I probably need surgery, and a year to recover now! Rotator Cuff and a SLAP Tear! A Superior Labral Anterior Posterior Tear, AND a Rotator Cuff tear and that helped jar loose a bunch of calcium bone crystal fragments right into the shoulder joint. I actually have the old model MGW Sight Pro, and I broached a square hole in that reverse threaded round bar, so I could use an ell faucet seat wrench to take it off. Some idiot borrowed that one and butchered that piece of bar stock with the LH threads, but that thing has probably pushed over 6,000 sights on and 6,000 sights off, maybe 10,000. DPS finally traded their Sigs in for the FNS40s, and CHP finally finally after 10 years of the 4006 + 17 years of the 4007 TSW, got rid of their S&W Model 59 type 4006 stainless steel bricks, for the M&P 2.0. Again sticking with the .40 S&W, and not going to the 9mm. I swapped a boatload of Swiss Sig P226 night sights of trade in Swiss police pistols. I cherry picked a couple of .38 Super P226s from that lot.

Awesome piece of quality machining. Unfortunately it was useless for the vertically adjustable m&P sights I bought the first block for. The adjustment block would only contact the movable part of the sight and would have ruined it. At least on this gun not really practical. Keep the brass punches handy.

@MGWINC 7 лет назад
did you remove one of the washers under thew WHITE DELRIN pad so you can get the sight lower. also we have a new pusher block with a relieved lower section for pusher farther down on rear sights. MGWSP30 is the part number.
@brandonprunty7687
@brandonprunty7687 7 лет назад
The height of the sight was not the issue. The sight just does not have any useful place to push above the top of the dovetail. I will try to find a description of the part you mentioned online. What it would need is a pusher block that contacts the dovetail with a width less than the dovetail cross section. If I find it necessary in the future, I guess I could machine a standard one down on the mill. Seems like it would be useful for a lot of sights. I do give you kudos on the quality of the product. First class. It will just take some time to get used to how to use it quickly and best. This time a wooden dowel worked in a couple of minutes. Keep up the good work.
@jamessprott9527

Encountered a similar problem with low mount sights on Remington RP45 and RP9. Delrin pad was too thick. Pusher block was contacting upper part of sight, not the actual dovetail part, as you describe. Causing sight to enter dovetail cut crooked. Corrected with hammer and punch several times. But dovetail cut is a very tight fit on RP pistols.. Resistance increasing as sight moved deeper into dovetail cut. Like you, I did not want to risk any damage to sight or tool. Got to SCREW OUT thick Delrin pad with supplied screw, remove one or both blued steel washers covered by Delrin pad as needed. Put Delrin pad back into hole. It will now seat much deeper in the hole. Allowing pusher block to go lower and contact dovetail part of sight properly. Screw down on Delrin pad VERY LIGHTLY to make proper adjustment of pusher block contact with dovetail part of sight. You might have to make intermediate thickness shims to "fine tune" adjustment if washer removal is not exact enough for desired pusher block contact with dovetail part of sight. When properly adjusted, screw forces should direct pusher block directly onto dovetail part of slide. Allow clearance for pusher block contact point to go through dovetail cut without contacting the cut itself as sight is moved deep into the dovetail cut. The low mount pusher block may be the best design for such sights.
