Today we are playing an absolute slam dunk commander game using the new precons from Modern Horizons 3. Watch as Charlie, Matt, Ryan, and Drew duke it out in a commander game for the ages!
I don't leave comments usually but I have to say this is one of the most entertaining things watching Matt figure it out while Charlie pretends he's a seasoned player.
"your propaganda doesnt affect dinosaur energy" and then matt hitting him with the "isnt that just oil?" Is a BANGER joke and deserves so much more credit 😂
Around the 54min mark, Matt missed that his Finale let's him untap 5 lands... which with Mana Reflections is a lot of mana to play his newly drawn hand
He also could have done that elephant a ton more and gotten rid of Charlie's Eldrazi. I think at one point he played it (after the first time he ever used it) and he didn't use the effect to destroy 3 things. So because of that Charlie got 2 damage off on him with Endbringer. And then I think if he copied it, it would have happened again right? I mean it didn't matter much since Charlie had a spell to kill him but still.
@@taylorcrawford4387 the elephant does not target creatures, it states non creatures. could have gotten rid of lands but would also have given him 3 3/3 bodys
I get triggered when the experienced players don't point out the extra busted things you can do with these cards, that's 14+ mana with a fresh shitload of cards he could have played, like cmon man.
Just a tip for any time you create a copy of a permanent (small missplay at ~ 1:00:10): When copying a permanent, it enters as a copy of that permanent only with the characteristics printed on the card/permanent being copied (ETB and/or ''enters with' will all take effect). In such case, the aethersphere harvester myriad copies would indeed enter the battlefield and give energy, but they would only be vehicles, NOT creatures, nor would they have lifelink as both of those effects are not printed on the card. The same is true if you copy a permanent that is modified (counters, enchantment, etc); the counters are not copied, but the permanent is. Notably, you would not be able to suddenly crew these vehicles and attack with them either given attacks have already been declared. A few subtle exceptions to this copy rule are mutated permanents and copying copies: When copying a mutated permanent, you copy the 'entire' permanent ie. all printed keywords and abilities of the mutated creature which can include abilities of multiple cards so long as they are part of the same mutated creature (if there are multiple cards that make up a mutated creature, they are treated as the same game object and thus the entire object is copied). See Tawnos, the Toymaker for some fun shenanigans. If you copy a permanent that is a copy of another permanent, you copy the copied permanent as it exists on the battlefield. Ex. If 'Evil Twin' enters as a copy of a grizzly bear, it enters as a grizzly bear with its activated ability. If you then copy the Evil Twin Grizzly Bear with another copy effect, you get a copy of grizzly bear with the activated ability of Evil Twin, not just a grizzly bear. I don't have the specific rules references but if anyone would like to add them below, feel free. Cheers, and thanks for the video!
That precon is devastating. Tried playing it unchanged and the amount of mana the deck generates is absurd. It's just missing some strong payoffs with the mana you generate and some counterspells to protect your most important pieces. Definitely NOT a beginner deck though.
This was a tonne of fun to listen too. I didn't even watch, just listened while you guys played while im at work and you guys make it so interesting even just on audio alone. Im excited to keep seeing these
Matt missed a part of his card at 54min. He before exiling the sorcery he was able to untap 5 lands which would have netted him 10 more mana and then had 15 cards to play. I love commander though because its way more chill. When I was playing with my friends routinely we all misread cards for weeks before our other friend was like read it and changed the way my deck played lol
Yep, TCG games with buddys and misreading cards is how it goes. Sometimes even after you figure out the correct way to play you just say whatever, keep playing it like you normally do since its funner that way, lol. Playing the PC version of TCG has taught me how to play way more then reading the cards themselves, lol. Kind wish there was a TCG that was both fun, and not so crazy with its cards effects.
@@lordfrz9339 I totally agree. Standard MTG makes me go insane because its all about the meta and not even having fun (unless your fun is only sourced from winning). Good luck on finding a TCG that isnt insane lol
There's no way Charlie held onto that for that long knowing he could have won when Matt decked out the other dude 😂😂😂 that is what I call prolonging the inevitable 😂😂
There's a reason why those modes aren't that common. They're not that popular because a few archetypes tend to dominate. We're seen more green/blue combos in modern thanks to Nadu, but it's far from being the red/black dominant combo brought by Ravagan, Sheoldred, and Orcish Bowmasters.
The volatile fault should not have been able to kill Charlie's commander cause it does say non-basic land. It mattered a bit cause he could've copied the card he played and had two creatures, both with haste which Charlie probably forgot about, that could've attacked and almost, if not killed, Matt. But there was a lot of missed stuff and it's not meant to be a competitive game and just for fun :)
Charlie got me into mtg with his card opening videos now I have 2 commander decks and am thinking about a third one. This addiction grabs you hard and fast. So far I’ve only made outlaws of thunder junction decks.
I tried to fall asleep listening to this but I got to the part where Drew was rhythmically flicking the cards for a few minutes straight and it woke me up lol welp I don’t play magic or DnD but I’ve watched every episode on this channel you guys are great! ❤
At 1:04:55 I thought charlie was allozed to exile at insant speed upon the bug entering battlefield, so that the landfall can't happen since playing lands is sorcery speed right and cannot be added to the stack? Correct me if I'm wrong im pretty new to magic, but I have a feeling they explained it wrong?
Maskwood Nexus is in the Disa deck so you can self mill any creature and put it onto the battlefield since they would be all creature types including Lhurgoyf (and yes that also includes Grist)
Just a little note, for amped raptor at around minute 46, if you cannot cast the spell that it finds immediately, the spell is exiled forever instead of being able to cast whenever you wanted to
20:05 When the commander attacks, you get 2 energy so you would have had 3 and maybe not had to sacrifice the ripper token. I haven't played with that commander so idk if I am right or if y'all caught it later. Great episode so far!
Actually they messed up that entirely the token comes in tapped and attacking, therefore no attack trigger to net an energy.. this entire play was wrong lol
Long time sealed Pokémon vintage and modern collector but I bought my first Magic product yesterday being the Eldrazi commander. Now I’ve got a few collectors booster boxes on the way to rip and see if I get hooked or end up putting it all in a bulk box and moving on with my life.
Matt's first card being Simic Growth Chamber was crazy cause i was sleeving a deck watching this video and Simic Growth Chamber was the next card i had lol
man I would love to see these guys in Vegas this year for Magic Con 2024, it would be a hopeful dream if it didnt mean charlie would have to get on a plane
Matt not realizing his moonscape sage would allow him to pick up his locus land that gains life for every locus with the everything counters to gain 5+ life a turn bugged me
With scute swarm you can use this equation, 2 * 2 ^ n - 1 (where n is the amount of scute swarms on the battlefield when playing a land), to count the correct tokens if you have 6 or more lands.
Everyone makes mistakes and misses stuff, it’s inevitable and ultimately doesn’t matter. But I can’t believe nobody caught the Volatile fault destroying Charlie’s commander 😂
I really appreciate the editing of your commander games. Those Game Knights dudes have nothing on you, I don't think they've ever used something as high quality as the spanish_metal_pipe.mp3.
Sick retro intro!! Makes me think some sick skateboarding is coming up next ;) If you need new players to fill in short notice I am your guy!!! I don't mind flying commercial and I am not picky about 5 star hotels.. Sushi every meal?? Let me know and I'll connect you to my agent!!
