An one tip: I recommend setting the emulator clock speed for MH3U at 45% that way you can enjoy the cutscenes and the gameplay at his best without stutters. In citra: Emulation -> configure-> system-> advanced: CPU clock speed = 45%

PSA: read up on charm tables _before_ starting a new game, unless you want to realise 200 hours in that to get any good talismans, you'll have to start from scratch.

There's actually a patch that fixes the tables nowadays, so you won't have to worry about that anymore.

@@greetingsfromamerica7071 basically, when you get a charm in MH3U, the game randomizes (not really, but that's another topic) it from a list, known as a charm table. Not all of charm tables are created equal: iirc there's one that has almost objectively the best charms, one that is almost as good (which I happened to luck into) and multiple really horrible ones with garbage charms. The game determines your charm table when you start a new character. It is impossible to change your table once it's set. So for the best experience, I'd recommend to read up on how to manipulate the game into giving you the table you want. It's really easy and can save you from being stuck with only borderline useless charms.

Just to add: There are also codes that would enable 3U to run at 60fps. Also if you don't like how the bloom looks in the game, there's a code to disable the bloom effect. There's also a No Dithering code that would help the performance of the game, and fix some minor texture glitches.

The reservation period for it has essentially been eliminated now. So if you order one you should get it within a week, two at max. And the official dock is available as well

This is great. Had set it up to the fps fix cheat and ill add the textures after I get done with work. Wish there was a way to fix the cutscenes but this is still an awesome step to getting this running good. Thank you sir

@@Yami_Industries lol, did you have the old 3ds because the new ones have a set of two trigger buttons on both sides L, ZL and R, ZR. Plus the bottom screen can be modified and mapped. When I played sword and shield mapped the trigger buttons on the screen.

I prefer to play it on 3DS with 3D on, same with 4U. It's a great experience as I can sense distance better with 3d on.

As much as I would recommend people try MH3U, the online capacity of those who play on Citra are so baren to come across. Over months I've played and I only ever saw at most 10 people. It's a real pain to find people near your HR as well. Maybe that will change but from my experience this year it wasn't the greatest.

Been playing MH 3rd on my phone psp emulator with the HD textures from the PS3 version. Runs beautifully and no under water missions. Would be great to play the switch version of generations on the deck and I'm sure it's doable but you'd lose online play

If you're running the American version originally ran at 60 FPS I believe so running that 60 FPS mod should not mess anything up I really wish there was a fix for the cutscenes though. Edit I just seen the top comment about setting the CPU clock speed at 45%❤ this makes cut scenes watchable

Hi!! Is there a way to do the same but with the Wii U version of the game? Would the online play be still okey after nintendo shutted down the servers and online functionality or we would need a mod as we do with MH Tri?

Unfortunately, there’s still no way to play the WiiU version online (to my knowledge). There is an on-going project called “The Pretendo Network” that is worth following though. I think their goal is exactly what you’re looking for

Thank you for the guide! I was having an absolute blast until i got to the key quest "Save our boat!" In the flooded forest. After the royal ludroth is killed, citra freezes or crashes. I genuinely dont know why either, since ive hunted a great Wroggi in the same flood forest with no problem. The same mission even caused the game to display the message "circle pad pro has been disconnected" even though it still works fine. Have you had this problem with "save our boat!" Or royal ludroth in general? Otherwise it runs like a dream on my steamdeck!

That's awesome :D I mported the MH Tri G bundle and a slide pad pro/circle pad pro back in the day it was worth it to play the game early and especially at that time it wasn't even announced officially for the west yet

I haven’t kept up with Pretendo in ages, but I want to say that they can’t replicate 3U’s WiiU servers since it uses a system separate from the Nintendo Network. But I could be completely wrong! I’ll keep my fingers crossed

Yeah, definitely a blunder on my part! In order to connect to other hunters, you’ll need to connect to a Citra room and then select the ‘local play’ in the game itself. From there, you should be able to connect to anyone in the same room as you. It doesn’t use MH3U’s actual online servers which locks you out of some features, but it’s a really clean work around for an emulation.

I've followed everything in this guide and it works great for the most part, but after playing the game for a bit it always drops to 0 fps and never goes back up, making the game unplayable. there doesn't seem to be a consistent time where it occurs, is this a problem you or anyone else reading this has run into, and if so, is there a known fix?

I am not sure if this is true anymore, but using the HD texture pack can cause lots of disconnects in multiplayer.

You should be able to move the entire Citra folder to your SD card and have the application + texture pack run off of there instead. Nintendo Network works on most other WiiU games if you dump your own WiiU files, but unfortunately 3 Ultimate uses a system separate from Nintendo’s. The servers are still up, but to my understanding, there’s no way to reach them via CEMU.

It doesn’t unfortunately! It had a local play option. Citra pretty much takes advantage of this local play option and connects you to your peers as if you were both sitting next to each other

You can play with your friends of course but don't expect the same level of interaction you would expect with a normal MH game on citra. Most likely you won't find anybody or just password protected discord rooms run by some losers afraid of s.o. random joining them.

The process is exactly the same I’m pretty sure! The only thing that would be different are the cheats you’d need to enable for it to run smoothly. They can all be found in the #mh4u-mods channel of the HD Project’s discord!
