I love how in the earlier games and this one, you could really feel the impact of those weapons. Another thing was the textures. I played freedom unite first, then 3tri, then 4u, went to World, then came to gu. And I tell ya, seeing those slapped on textures over models of monsters and terrain and paper-thin renders of plants was a comforting sight vs the realistic look of the newer games.
I think it's the blood effects in these older games. Monster hunter world/iceborne had no blood because I imagine that they would have to increase the age rating if they included blood because of gore. Monster hunter rise has blood but it's not the same as before and honestly just makes the screen look cluttered. I want to see the return of the retro game's style blood effects in the next main series game :) !
Well the realistic look comes from the first two generations of the game. Monster Hunter started off with the realistic look and had a more “serious” atmosphere, you didn’t get the more jokey stuff until the portable games. So world was just kinda trying to bring back what this game originally was.
Things I enjoyed seeing in this video: Random cat kills/part breaks Use of Adept greatsword (screw valor) The almost full party of aerial greatsword just beating the ever loving shit out of monsters The abundant slapping of zinogre, that made me happy The proper usage of Moonbreaker III, the objective best hunter art in the game.
They should really bring the styles and hunter arts back. They are so fun to play with and make every weapon completely viable one way or another. Hell, Lance is top tier for speedrunning, that says a lot. Also 4 aerial GS is the funniest shit
I prefer switch styles to hunter arts personally, but hunter styles should absolutely come back. My personal favourites include aerial switch axe and adept dual blades
@@danielgeronimo5538 Yeah, the loss of the original feature of dash juice ruined the DB for me, plus DB was nerfed in Rise. DB now feels like just spam press A and X, and dash out by pressing B. DB has more mechanics in GU and those made playing DB as enjoying, esp the adept DB where your aggressiveness scales with the Monters' aggro. Aerial DB Switch Skill was nice, for big monsters.
@@wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee5896 I still play aerial DB in Rise because it's the only way I play DB since GU. I still love it, being the very weapon that got me into the series and what made me into a hunter. But overall mixed opinions about it. I have to do the math to get my damage up because Wolf's Maw just decreases my stamina consumption. Just breaking the limits, I suppose.
@@danielgeronimo5538 Mine's adept DB so it really hurt me that it became a wirebug counter now unlike the aerial which is a switch skill. I have meta sets for every elemental DB back in XX (3DS) so I only need to play aggressive and go anime with the adept dash. Will play GU again tho and align the time I'll buy the game and the time to borrow my friend's 3DS coz mine's now broken and I need to transfer my MHG save data.
I remember when this came out i thought it was like HD monster hunter compared to all the previous games then world and rise came out lol. Still love playing the old games though, 4u is still the best IMO
I was first a gen 3 player, then a gen 4 player, then mhw, then I went back to gu. And I tell ya seeing those slapped on textures over models and paper thin renders of trees and plants was so much more comforting than the realistic things in Mhw and rise
The patience will not come from the monsters my young hunter...... It will instead come from old gen gathering and crafting. Seriously. My first game was MH3U but I quit it like 10 hours in because I hated the crafting. I didn't even learn how to craft a god damn paintball until I came back to the game in my teenage years
@@jasonlobo2350 and??? It still doesn't tell you how to craft anything until you do it for the first time, and you can just miss something bc you never decided to put two items together
I like to keep the bullfangos alive. For as annoying as they are, my terrible luck with being constantly knocked over my every single monster has me being knocked out of the way from attacks a lot.
There was obviously a lot of effort put into this video. You deserve more subs for your work man. And as I fellow Gen/Gen U player, I can relate to every bit of this video.
Wow... a recommended video that actually interests me, thanks RU-vid. Anyway I've recently been binge playing MHGU and have only gotten to Hub rank 4 and single player rank 7 and I like the feel of this over MHW:I and MH Rise. While MHW:I is a living breathing world and realistic to an S tier level, I prefer the monster variety in GU and the impact of the weapons and monsters. Rise has excellent gameplay and mechanics... but it feels like the monster are far weaker than GU and MHW:I because of those mechanics. MHGU hits the mark for me for both hunters and monsters being evened out in power and overall fun. P.S. - Not looking forward to hyper Plesioth... I'll take two Apex Frenzied Rajangs from 4U(or was it 3U?) over that stupid fish.
The frenzy was 4u. I also agree with you. Rise is just fast food. When the fun starts going the monster dies and I feel hollow. 7 mins on my first hunt of a monster shouldn't be even possible
Really? honestly I find stun to be way less punishing in this game than in World, and this is coming from someone who started with World. Not only does spinning your analog to get out of it actually make a difference, but it also seems you can get hit a lot more times before it actually procs Also not having the stupid face slapping animation makes it feel a lot less frustrating
I was introduced to mh with rise and I love that game but I decided to pick up gu recently and I gotta say, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to go back to playing monster hunter how I used to now I know the joy of adept great sword, the adept dodge is so generous as soon as you even slightly learn a monsters moves you feel invincible, and I’m terrible at dodging normally, I can’t dodge through anything in rise, I just put on max evade extender so I can get out the way of everything 😂
Imagine you've finally killed Tigrex, Nargacuga, Zinogre, or even the most annoying and agile monster. But you ended up fainted by the Bullfango/Bulldrome.
The feel when you see other players do cool stuff with GS and you want to try it as well, but get bodied by a great Maccao and just turn back to SnS because it's an easy noob weapon.
@Cringe-Gamer - i personally don't really feel like it has too much depth to it,of course i don't mind if i'm wrong i just find the weapon piss easy, especially with Adept. Having the adept dodge and being able to mount is busted and it doesn't requiere a lot of brain power to be good with.
@@UFOToaster Provided you use elemental/status builds, since that is where SnS shines most, especially crit affinity when oils are available in G/GU to make more openings for the rest of the party.
The Dreadking puts a lot of area denial, while the Silver forces to take a different approach by going for the wings or use water weapons. The mid-air claw to fireball chain is something to take note when choosing the weapon and style, which some can punish.
But Rathalos is so easy. Silverlos and Dreadking on the other hand, especially the Ex Deviant DK and hyper Silverlos are a the ones you should hate the most.
@@crimsonclaymore1395 He just said that old MH are hard why did you have the need to defend the new games by saying those things to the old games? He's not being an elistist.
@@crimsonclaymore1395 ironically, saying that all old monster hunters are terrible and essentially disregarding the entire history and intent of monster hunter as a whole, while also heavily implying you think world is a better game in every way is actually quite elitist. Good job. You've managed to be more elitist than the original comment ever was. Anyway, which is more likely: That the classic monster hunters, which millions bought and enjoyed, games that people still continue to enjoy to this day are just completely terrible, or that you're missing something?
REPORTED FOR PORNOGRAPHY. That SA rush was fucking INSANEEEE. To think that I moved on from SA in that game into HH when my husband has been the SA all along. 😭
