It is leaping thrust. A lot of people think they need to back hop afterwards. But this is not the case, what you actually want to do is guard dash backwards so you immediately can do another leaping thrust. So maybe that's what you're doing wrong

@@J9_MH Hi, I was wondering, are normal pokes just sub optimal compared to guard dash/leaping thrust looping on the monster (wondering during the fight as opposed to when the monster is downed) I'm trying to balance whether or not to add in pokes - I'm learning lance currently, and it is far more nuanced and complex than it appears.

@@mehdiakdim7517 leaping thrust spam is better if you're using element. wide sweep is when you use raw

I always guard bash into the first attack, so that follow-up never hits me

just instablock or normal block into anchor rage if you're not sure about the timing

I had to get hit by the tail for adrenaline damage

with a correct element build you should hit closer to 170 I would say. 200 is because of dango adrenaline

basically as soon as the monster has an elemental weakness of 20 or higher element starts to outperform raw sets. The damage difference will be around 10-20% depending on how big the element hzv to raw hzv ratio is. does that mean you need to play element? so basically the playstyle between element and raw is very different. you use different combos and different attacks. some people don't like the elemental playstyle cause it relies a lot on spamming leaping thrust. and that's ok since you can beat pretty much everything with raw. element is just gonna do it slightly faster but the difference isn't as big as it is with a weapon like dual blades. so it all comes down to if that 10-20% faster clear times are worth making 5 sets, one for each element. or if you like the elemental playstyle more than the raw playstyle. cause some people do

max element augments on the weapon. maxxing out all element skills on the armor and dango adrenaline

@@EldritchUntoldHorrors yeah, it kinda depends on your play style. leaping thrust has crazy good element scaling and there's a lot of element skills so it ends up being the strongest against a lot of the monsters. If you play with shield tackle you can't spam leaping thrust that easily so there it's better to stick to raw

It's called a Leaping Thrust You need to do a guard dash in any direction first (R2+L+△) then (O) on Playstation a controller Make sure you're using Guard Dash and not the new Shield Tackle for the Switch Skill

When guarding, press forward and top button to charge dash then press right button(circle, a, whatever). The next part is important - while keeping guard up (holding right trigger) hit back and top button to jump back and hit circle/an again. You can repeat that but the key is and what nobody ever explains is you have to keep holding the button for guard

It's a killer on my thumbs though lol

If you're talking about insta-block, then yes you can just parry back to back

You can actually spam it so fast you can consistently parry light bow gun bullets

I think it's pretty decent in sunbreak. There are still a lot of weapons that are significantly stronger in terms of damage tho

find a monster you like fighting. Watch what others are doing. You can learn a lot from them. About certain punishes and game mechanics Next step is making a set and basic plan on how you approach the fight. Then start to hunt the monster over and over until you can easily recognise the attacks and patterns and build the muscle memory to punish them. Then it's just grinding for the good rng and optimizing your strategy so you eventually get a fast and clean run Finally don't overdo it and most importantly have fun. it takes time to learn the weapon, the monster and sometimes can feel exhausting trying to get good monster AI.

that's not my hp :) I get hit on purpose at 0:25 . and when you get hit part of your health turns into red health. and red health usually recovers over time but since I use the dereliction skill the health drain stops it from recovering and I stay at 1hp for the rest of the fight

@@J9_MH ah okay, holy shit! now it's even more awesome that you're just 1 hit away and yet get that clean of a run damn, i didn't realize it's red health, I thought you're in berserk

@@peaceka yeah I'm using dango adrenaline which gives you more damage if you are at low hp. I use it in combination with dango driver, which makes it so more of your health gets turned into red health after getting hit. having more red health allows me to get infinite stamina with strife 3 just like you do in berserk. which then allows me to use maximum might for affinity :)

When you get hit some of the hp you lose gets turned into red health and will then recover over time. Now since I'm using dereliction, a skill that drains your normal hp it no longer recovers over time. And since the red health itself only drains when using berserk, which I'm not, it's not draining. And for the reason why I have so much red health is because I used the food skill dango driver that increases the amount of red health you get when getting hit. I want a lot of red health to get the full buff from strife which gives me more element damage and infinite stamina for max might/affinity. And I want to drain to 1 hp and stay there for the food skill adrenaline giving me more raw damage
