Finally, some actual “useful” tips. Dont get me wrong, people posting “things you didnt know” videos do include some useful stuff, but everyone does it. First video ive seen that teaches you a mechanic that the game doesnt cover. Granted, this is my first Monster Hunter game
Its still good even though this is my 4th MH game. I knew about these mechanics like roar dodging and flinch thresh holds but I have not seen anything this in depth on them. Like that flying wyvern foot tell.
Thank you so much Phemeto! These are some very valuable tips and will help my personal gameplay a lot. I’ve always known these things existed but could never really get the hang of them. As far as going through each monster, I for one would appreciate any extra tips. I try to learn on my own but I’m just not as observant as others. Lol. Thanks again! Your work is much appreciated.
Left foot step roar also applies for KT, and Greatest Jagras. Helpful for both since the effect range is so wide. Also helps a bit with dodging Jho roars, but the pacing from step to roar is a bit different, and the roar effect is long, so you have to be more precise.
This is pretty useful, but you forgot to mention the most important part of rolling through roars: which part of the roll has an I-frame and how long it lasts.
FINALLY!! I've been trying so long to try and roll roars but I'm always off by a bit! This is super useful and the kind of detail I needed to really practice dodging roars and whatnot.
I've been playing mh since freedom unite, and I have +800 hours into mhw and this is the first time roar roll and stagger been explained in a way I understand. Thank you and definitely interested in more similar topics
I recently started to ask my self how the top hunters dodge roars. I didn't know about the tells with the legs, thanks so much for this as it's one step closer to being a better hunter!! Please continue on!!
@7:53 Yes. Yes it matters. I don't know how helpful that will be on group play, but I know that it will matter in the long run because that will lead to more cooperative and synergistic gameplay regardless of weapon type and even in randoms. Because of this, I'm subscribing.
I'm just now getting into MHW as my first MH game. Trying to get a grip on the pretty obtuse mechanics that are in no way explained in-game has been tricky. This is exactly the kind of info I've been looking for.
Jake honestly monster hunter has never been one for teaching mechanics. It’s more of the rpg take on “figure out how to do these things through trial and error”. Some moves can be canceled into others if you know the frames to cancel them by (or so in pervious games). others have you discover super combos for massive damage. The list goes on, your hunter notes give you the basics, it’s up to the player to figure out and master their hunting style.
Great informative vid! Always love seeing videos like this that'll help everyone since it's not talked about too much in detail, keep up the great content and keep up the speedruns! Happy Hunting Phemeto :D
What a great video! Dodging roars is one of the most difficult technique to Master. I think teo and Luna are the most difficult to hit the exact time frame! Thx alot!
One thing that helps me when dodging roars of non obvious monsters is once the wind up starts to ignore the animations and focus on the screen shake instead. It will help you avoiding to roar too soon.
I subscribed just in hopes you do some breakdowns of runs. I beat Tempered Teostra in 3:43" but my run is nothing clean. I just get lucky KO's. I want to consistently post times this low and better. I wouldn't mind some live streams of you trying to set speedruns either. I think a lot of people might benefit from seeing the process.
It's hard to know for diabolos and beetlejuice , but they (and so do all flying wyverns) roar the moment they push their wings outward. You can see with legiana how she puts her leg forward as well as her wings outward. Same with b-52 and diabolos just without the leg. With diabolos try to focus on his right arm
Some breakdown runs would be awesome, I've always had trouble dodging roars & always tried rolling using audio cues but only pulled it off a handful of times. With the huge tip with flying wyvers I'll definitely get better. Thanks
Very good info. I wish more people had play-plays for things, especially weapons. I mainly use bows n bowguns, with a little bit of hh/ls, but i wanna branch out for things like the greatsword just so i can understand people who use it. That and have a different playstyle
Sadly, doing dunks is almost impossible for me due to weapon of choice (DB main since 3U). However, it’s good to see that this info is out for new players. I have to agree, though, roar dodging is sooo much easier in world than in previous games.
I wish we had a very, very slightly increase in iFrames... just to be more consistent! No matter how skilked you get at fighting a particular monster, there are attacks and roars with lingering hitboxes long enough to be almost of not totaly impossible to dodge with base iFrames...
Vitor Vena it was even less in the older games but if you can't be more consistent even with these boosted s then the only thing left is to git gud my dood
@@mojiink542 i played since MH1... its not about gitting gud its about everything to be taken into account in order for you to be able to dodge some stuff... Why do you think speedrunners advice only dodging roars? Why do you think everything else they dodge requires EM? Have you ever asked yourself those questions... I know the answer...
You ever have any plans to do high-level Gunner weapon TAs and tutorials for MHGU? With your amazing skills and dedication, you could easily get some juicy TA runs for G-Rank in that game.
This video is super awesome. I have a question though. You said that you can KO a monster that is down from stagger. What about stagger a monster that is down from KO? Do we know if the stagger is wasted or if it holds out at 1 HP?
When you were fighting against that Rath at 0:53 after the forward triangle attack, you did this forward pound then up-and-backward bash, can you tell me how to do that maneuver? I main HH but I have never known how to do that (I have seen other HH speedrunners do this too). Please you would do me a lot of favour. Thanks for the awesome tips!
@@Phemeto hi! sorry I timemarked it wrong. It should be around 0:47. It's the second attack (177 damage) just after you rolled the roar. (roar > first attack with 141 > second attack with that maneuver with 177 damage). I am aware of the quick hilt stab move.
breaking down runs would be neat, would take quite a bit of work to do but would be great as a way to better understand how a speedrunner handles fights and apply it on our regular hunts
can we chat phemeto ?? i really need tips in playing bow.. how do u guys shoot at the head after dodging left or right ?? i really struggle finding the head after dodging left and right.. thanx sensei
You kinda cant , or its not worth putting the ear plugs or anything , just keep a fire mantle when you see shes gonna nova , and use a farcaster when she is about to.do it
70 hours in and now I learn I can dodge roars? FML. I'm probably too new to the game to properly understand play-by-plays but they could certainly be interesting for later reference anyway.
@@animelytical8354 That you understood it as well, or...? Not sure I get it. If I do fall in love with MHW it'll get hundreds or maybe thousands but I have to start somewhere. In any event, I've found the utility for this to be somewhat limited for a newbie like myself given that the quest modifiers seem to play a fairly big role. In a game like Bloodborne I can memorize the attack sequences required for a stagger/limb-break threshold and rely on that familiarity even if I don't always land said attacks perfectly. Here I have to work out what the quest modifiers actually mean, try to guess if it matters that I play solo, then find some Twitter account which appears briefly on screen and cross-reference my guesswork with the appropriate table there...probably best if I take Phemeto's advice and avoid sweating the details at this point.
Please do the breakdown runs, even though i can mostly dodge their roars and attacks, i still haven't grasp their stagger limits I mostly warm-up with fighting rathians and diablos, these 2 are easiest for me to train on, but that depends on the person
Ironically, even tho everyone says dodging roars is easier here than in old games, I have more trouble in World with it. Speaking generally, I can dodge roars most of the time but the brute wyverns throw me off guard with their fast screams
My damage numbers are all over the place so I can't use the numbers to guess the enrage roar. Plus my weapon has a negative affinity so I get a lot of blue numbers so my number swing is ridiculous. Plus I hit whatever the monster shows me and occasionally I see a crit..oh happy day
The GS shoulder tackle has armor frames like a block and gives you poise. Pretty easy to do and essential for any GS user. You still take damage but not from roars of course!
Sharing the same in game skeletons doesnt mean share the same classes, they choose it with biological standard. Ukanlos and akantor share the same skeleton as fanged wyverns treated as flying wyvern cause their ancestor had wings, behemoth too classified as elder dragon cause the ecology damage it can cause. More examples, plesioth, using flying wyvern skeleton but classified as piscine wyvern. They're 2 types of bird wyvern, flying bird wyvern that exhibit similar characteristics as flying wyvern and theropod bird wyvern that share similar characteristics as brute wyvern. And they generally behave and looks like birds, feathers, beak etc. And paolumu doesn't show any of those bird wyvern characteristic. It may share wing looks like pukei's but it may from their long ancient ancestor in the new worlds. In Monster Hunter, monster and environment resembles a real animal and environment as logical as it can be. I have been a huge fans of MH for almost 15 years and following every single details in MH is my hobbies besides playing the game, i am happy sharing some of the detail of the game with other fans. Happy hunting :)
@@Kittysune12 Monster classified as flying wyvern if they are bipedal, have wing and not fall under bird or piscine. They're not classified with their long flight capability, such tigrex, diablos, basarios and even gravios.
Lol you get it , but with gs and ls you can just pary it , I got.pretty good.at it and I.pary all the roar 80%.of the time + it fills your spirit gauge to next level
