I bought a nice brand 3 jaw chuck from a guy who bought off a whole warehouse full of machining equipment for surprisingly cheap - 1500kč (about 60 bucks), it looked nice, i was really exited that ill finally have a small chuck to run because the only other i had for my lathe was a 315mm one. I quickly got my exitement swept away when i found out that the chuck has at best 0.3mm runout but it can get to 0.8 depending on the diameter of the work, and when i bought brand new jaws for it the runout stayed the same and the stock even aquired a tilt. Thanks for your video, it helped the chuck alot, i can now get to about 0.08ish mm runout

Good method. I always use marker pen on the jaw faces before machining, so you can see where metal has been removed. You can also remove the jaws and grind the face back on an oil stone carefully (keeping everything parallel) on very small chucks. Cheers Rob

Marking them sounds like a good tip. Thanks for watching. 👍

I've got an ancient Cushman 3-jaw that I'm trying to get squared away. I began with a total tear-down, through cleaning and inspection. I ran a tap through all threaded holes just to clean them up. I ran a clean up pass over the mount to make sure it ran true. Then I assembled the chuck and left the mount to chuck bolts a little loose ... and then centered the chuck onto the mount. Once I had it centered, I tightened it down and ran a grinding stone on an electric grinder to do the jaws as you have. I used a ring on the outside of the jaws instead of 3 bits of steel on the inside. I know folks go back and forth on that. I'm figuring the old guy is probably 80 years +/-, but he runs pretty good now.

Lot better that mate just a suggestion or an improvement idea 💡 hows about having a dedicated led light on a flexi mount so you can keep both hands free while you are machining?

I've been looking for a couple of LED lights, one for the lathe and one for the Mill that cost an arm and a leg 👍

Hi, so geht das nicht! Die Backen klemmen ja nur hinten, sie müssen zuerst und besonders VORNE klemmen!
