Hello ! Quick update regarding this video : - With the addition of AT Namielle and Alatreon, the Hellhorn (fire safi HH) became a lot more interesting. Now we have good reasons to use fire HHs so make sure to get those as well.
Let it be known that AmaDEUS 225, arguably one of the very top Hunting Horn players in the world right now, *RECOMMENDS* putting at least LVL1 Flinch Free in multiplayer builds. This isn't a debate anymore; this is the optimal way to play HH in multiplayer! Great guide and was really looking forward to seeing this one!
@@Doos you explained very clearly how the built-in flinch free in our attack matters very little because, unknown to so many players, we actually want to move away from an attack from time to time.
A lot of players have this misconception that adding Flinch Free in a build is a wasted slot for a more aggressive deco like Attack, Peak Performance or Agitator, believing that you will lose dps. The thing is, if someone flinches you, YOU STILL LOSE DPS; you cannot attack when flinched, so what's the point of squeezing for damage? Flinch Free is a mandatory skill in all my builds, period.
@@MonsterHunterPH Well there is also an interesting downside to consider, if you have flinch free, you can't be knocked out of negative effects like tremor/wind/roars either (can still be knocked out of stun though). I encounter it a lot, where I'll dodge a roar or block a tremor and end up right next to a "stunned" player, swipe them once with my weapon ending their stun a few seconds early... it just doesn't work with flinch free on.
Thanks for stopping by ! This one is a bit longer than usual, but a lot had to be said for this to be a COMPLETE and in-depth video ! Safi is leaving soon so make sure you grab those weapons ! You can check the description for the mods I used. I did not mention it here but the "awakened" look for the safi weapons (eye open) becomes available as long as your weapon's awakened level is 23 or higher. Edit : I did not go over everything in this video so here are some things that I forgot to mention : Environmental damage negated can : negate poison from poisoncups, the heat caused by Xeno'Jiiva, can be used as a substitute for hot drinks (counters cold). Melody extended: This works on any song currently active. This means that it can extend your teammates' and palico's songs as well. It works with the coral orchestra songs. Edit #2 : Another reason explaining why ele atk up is not good even when playing with elemental weapons is that the song cannot go over the cap ! Most people will reach it or get close to it so your song becomes pretty much useless. @@DragN_H3art If we want to go that route, most fights in this game will favor raw. The training pole still has an elemental HZV of 30 which should be good here. During testing, Namielle (wet) was the only time where ele atk boost could reduce the gap with AuxL on the echo attack. That's because in that state, it favors ele over raw, but that's a specific case, not accurate for most monsters.
Hi DEUS, really nice video. I would also add a "tip" to to the video because it was not specified (I know you know it, but the people seeing the video may not). The same song from different Hunting Horns do not stacks, that means that if you are playing multiplayer with multiple hunting horns in the party, the best idea is to use horns with different kind of songs. This would also allow for the less "popular" and "useful" songs to be used cause only 1 AuXL is needed basically. I usually go for 1 HH with attack boosting songs (usually the acid glav melody set / atk IV "safi" awakening especially in MP) and 1 with elemental boosting song. Anything beyond that is really rare but earplugs/affinity is really good in MP cause it makes the damage and setup more consistent and also the Tool Drain reduction L is a really underestimated song and DuXL is found in the same song sets. Love hunting horn, and keep those monsters "feel the music". Take care!

Amazing video! Just adding something to the Environmental Damage Negated You dont need Cool and Hot drink if you have the buff, It also works for poison cups, the ice water from hoarfrost (No iceblight), rotten vale smoke (no damage), rotten vale acid water (no damage) -Yae Sakura
I can't thank you enough for making HH videos I recently picked up HH because I've been wanting to make it my new main weapon, after 1400 hours and 2000+ hunts with IG. It took me sometime but HH is now one of my favorites I currently have 3 Shatter horns each built differently, its one of the reasons I absolutely love the safi weapons. this basically answered every question i ever had regarding how to build horn, I only recently learned it (did so specifically because nothing seemed to work in my attempts at alatreon. Sadly didn't matter but it DID become my new favorite weapon alongside my original favorite Charge Blade, so still worth it!) I always try to avoid using raw builds because to me a large part of a game like MH is capitalizing on weaknesses, but that means for things like Horn I had zero clue how to build the safi ones for elemental without neutering my damage. This cleared up all of that and then some!
I said that I'd build every Safi horn when it came out. Little did I know that I'd do that 5x over with just the Hunting Horn. Safi Horn customization is the best thing to happen to the HH. ♥
I really wanted to check out Hunting Horn, because i couldn't get into it in the last games. I have been binging Griffted's, MHW PH Elites and your videos for the past 5 days. And it finally clicked. You actually make a pretty good case for Attack Melody III, which I thought I'd never use again. I'll try putting it on a horn instead of my favorite (Attack Up II) and see how it goes with my Safi set. As far as comfy builds go, I'd recommend doing one Affinity Up set. You can completely negate the use of WEX if you use that and the full Safi set bonus, along with full crit eye. It gives more room for other skills you might like, such as rounding out Evade Window 5.
My Favorite song list is the attack list 2. I love having auxl, and then having a whole lot of healing. I heal my team so they don’t feint, heal myself so I never need to stop playing my songs to heal, and I do allot of damage
great work on the video, it is sad that HH is the least used weapon (at least on PS4) . I used to be a HH main on base game and now planning to return to it. there are not many Pro HH players but for sure everyone like to receive the buffies :)

My brain hurts. lol I have so many questions about melodies, their effects, encore effects, melody durations with and without Horn Maestro 2, and melody extensions vs. playing the song again, or even playing melody extension with an encore. Sorry, I just picked up HH about a week ago now, and I absolutely love it, but I barely understand it's mechanics outside of doing the doots and sonic slaps.

I might have missed it here but does any same skill stack? i.e. Attack up (s) and Attack up (L)? I rolled a safi horn that had 3 attack up (s) melodies.

HH is built like a regular melee set. The only specific skill it needs is Horn Maestro 2. You can check the general album sets in the description for ideas on how to build your sets !
Nice video, really liked to songlist explanations! But as a small critic i have to say that comparing ele and atk at the pole seems a bit suboptimal because of the poles shitty ele hitzones
Appreciated ! Can you show me what the hitzones are tho? The pole should have 30 ele HZV for all the elements. This is a very good number. In this game, most monsters will favor raw even on good elemental matchups. Namielle in wet state is pretty much the only notable case where elemental would be favored over raw. Edit: I got my values from Honey Hunter. This was also verified by a math savvy friend of mine.
I wonder if the Elemental IV Melody is more worth it now with Alatreon's set bonus as it has Blight Res which increases your elemental resistances and the Elemental Efficiency bubbles boost both your resistances and Elemental attack. And then of course you have the Elemental Atk Up stacking with the bubbles for that extra 20% Elemental Atk. My only worry is hitting the Elemental Cap, does Alatreon or the melodies raise it?
You know what I find most annoying about Safi is that I unlocked it's raid the day it was replaced by KT and I was SOOOOO salty about that because I was really looking forward to getting a safi horn. I now have a kjaar pipe crusher, but damn does it still sting that i missed safi by a day.
For elemental builds I’ve been using 3 piece teo and 2 piece velkana but I’m taking up one of the safi awakened spots on the weapon for the velkana divinity. Do you think I should just run 4 element boost awakens instead?

Lightbreak timbre sadly doesn't have AuxL so on its own, not that great. It's good as a 2n HH if someone brings AuxL tho. Demonlord Wardrum is a really good HH for those who don't have Safi yet. You can use that instead of the Rasping Ballad (if you don't like the low purple sharpness). This HH has lots of innate purple and 15% affinity. No slots but it's a pretty good one !
Great info, I really like Attack 1 melodies list because of the speed and evasion boost so the roar chart was really useful to decide which Horn to pick in certain investigations from now on, I tried googling the roar info but I couldnt find it anywhere before. What about Elemental melody 1 for elemental horns tho? attack up S increases by 15% which is just 5% less but it has Elemental effectiveness up, maybe it could surpass attack up XL on safi/khana builds? I dont know how Ele effectiveness works alone tho so idk, maybe I missed it in the video

Has special interactions with the Ele Atk Boost and Ele Res Up songs (not to be confused with Abnormal Status)." Elemental effectiveness up only shines while combined with ele atk boost. Ele melody 1 might seem like the best of both world but you just end up with 2 weak boosts. It is better to fully commit to AuxL. Ele atk boost should be used when playing with another HH providing the attack buff.
The bubble only gives 5% more ele (of base) alone. In practice it may add as much as 0 to 2 ele damage depending on the situation. It isn't worth it. If you look at some speedruns using that horn on diablos (for sonic waves), the runner often don't even bother playing the bubble as part of the prebuff.
Have you looked at Upgraded Taroth "Sleep" with custom upgrades, augment, and non element boost the raw can get higher than safi. Just not sure how well it compares with blast in play.
A question to the speed up + evade window Song. Does it stack with the maxed evade window armor skill ( like "evade window 8" together ) ? Or cap the I frame's by evade window 5?
Short answer : no. The song and the armor skill do not interact whatsoever. Typically songs and skills do not stack (same thing for earplugs, wind resistance and tremor res). There are some exceptions but in this case, evade window up and the evade window armor skill do not stack.
@@Doos thankyou for the video, can I ask where you got the info about how much evade window it gives you? I'm not saying I don't believe you, I just mean I spent a while googling and couldnt even find what level it gives you, let alone that it runs out when your self improvement buff goes out, that explains why I had alot of frustration testing how long it lasts. It would be good to read up on any other stuff I have no idea about! 🤣 So if I get speed boost, and continue to renew my self improvement buff without it running out, ill keep my speed boost the entire time? If so thats awesome, I googled and literally found nothing useful about this ability. Thanks again for your guides and channel, its really made the game alot of fun learning HH 😀
hey there sir, i have some questions 1. how will speed/evade window song work with evade window skill? does it stack with the skill? e.g. 3+2 = 5? or higher will override like earplug (s) song? 2. The base safi horn with no song awaken ability will come with Earplug song(L) already, is it better go with 4x attack V + attk VI comparing to Earplug song awaken + 3x attack V + attk VI? 3. The dragon wave song, does it apply any dragon seal at all? btw the Environmental dmg negate seems to give warm skill too (no need for hot drink) and not sure if it help negate ice blight when standing on the icy stream i will try that out. And thanks for all the vids mate they really help me becoming a better HH user. And i'm sure other HH user world wide appreciate it as well, all 6 of them!
1 - Songs and skills do not stack. It's the same thing as the example I gave for earplugs (s). 2- If all you care about is "earplugs", then this would be the better alternative. The earplugs melody has other useful songs and here it depends on what you want. 3- Dragon waves do indeed apply elderseal. Tl dr : no. The song elemental atk boost cannot go over the ele cap and if people aren't using the safi set bonus, they will be pretty close to it. Stamina IV would be better since you can give them an attack boost and stamina related buffs.
ATK MELODY 2 4 LYFE I got so used to Bazel Horn that my brain instantly wants to slap it on every Shatter I get. That said I need to stop using Blast been using that since Base World lol.
wdym stop using blast, its pretty much the meta for any safi raw set(only possible exceptions being weapons like normal gunlance that have a hard time doing top dps when the monster has more movement uptime, so they use paralysis)
There is no need for affinity awakenings when you can easily reach 100% affinity on a Master Touch build. The weapon has innate 5%. With crit eye 7 (40%), weakness exploit 3 (50%) and attack boost 4 (5%), you are already at 100% on a tenderized weakspot. You could use augments for that, if you wish. Affinity is the least of your worries !
