This is late, but thanks to you I gave Lance another try. It's now my favorite weapon, and I learned a lot from these videos. People are wrong to think the shield is to stand behind cowardly, it's actually to attack!
Lance actually one of the strongest weapon in that you can constantly keep attacking. Same as long sword. The bad news, lance counter tactic is hampered a lot in multiplayer due to the spread aggro and chalangger mantle doesn't work on lance guard, the meter still goes down like taking usual hits even when guarding, should have reduced the meter reduction when taking guarded hits at least. It works on long sword since the counters counted as evade thus not reducing the mantle meter.
@@Nick_Whiskey sometimes when you're in the fields, you'll see galajaka, or boaboa blowing up horns and offering you help. If you lure a monster near them they will knock down the monster, and start wailing on it. To unlock this you need to befriend with their specific tribes (doing special quests and such) and reach tailraider lvl 5. There's also Grimalkyne version that require you to mount monster in the same area. instead of knocking them down for dmg they'll use vine to trap the monster for a longer cc, but this version doesn't work with elder dragon.
trying to play more aggressively since I started watching these. fought a Rajang in guiding lands today. killed me 5-6 times in about 30-40 minutes. I have a long way to go.
4:56 蜂蜜 was back to rajiang, got knocked back, only took 2 hits, only lost small amount of health. I faced my shield towards the rajiang for this attack, I took 3 hits and lost half of my health. The way you handle this kind of detail is really amazing!

That guarded backstep at 3:38 i did not know that was a thing for lance. I thought it could only do a guarded forward advance. Seems I have more to learn.

There’s a lot to process. From the blocks to evade. Now that’s boxing. Also i was wondering why that one rajang roar hit. Watched it again, and understood why it was allowed to hit. That positioning is amazing. Complete use of environment was amazing too. Very impressive.
I think he wanted to time the block to proc Offensive Guard but misread the roar animation. You can see him stopping his 3-hit poke on the first one like he's getting ready to counter or shield dash. Good runs take some luck (e.g. the right Investigation, Boaboas in the right place, etc), and it just so happens that Rajang put himself in a good position after the roar. Then again, he could have gotten a few more pokes in buffed with Offensive Guard if he blocked the roar instead.
Those pokes were precise I need alot of practice doing my pokes I mess up a lot when I go against rajang, just started getting lance since it allowed me to take a monster head on
A very bad time to be a rajang! Two walls in the face, a paraboi, a group of crazy grimalkins, a deviljho. And a finish with the the lance in the butt... That was pretty hilarous.
You mean the Boaboas? Sometimes, you have Lynian friends hanging around the area tooting a horn from a high place and telling you to lure the monster to their spot. If you do it with mounting or in this case, with the clutch claw, it will trigger their tribe-specific skill which always locks the monster in place. Boaboas and Gajalakas will do damage too with spears and handcannons respectively.
David Lai A guard evade, performed by hitting the Guard button and Primary Attack button (the forward stab one) at the same time. From standing, you can only guard evade forwards, but if you do it after an attack, and input a direction with L stick, you can Guard Evade backwards or to the side.

Silverpunch when you’re in the knockback state after guarding a heavy attack, you can trigger power guard right after by pressing X(ps4) or A(xbox) while still holding the guard button.
Care to help a lance newbie? 1:55 - 2:00 What are those dashes? Did they activate offensive guard? 3:25 what kind of guard is that? I'm sorry they just seem so fast that they dont look like guards at all. More like parries.
@@sefatsilverlake3816 it's actually a sidestep with the evasion mantle preventing any damage dodging at the right time you'd be surprised but I just started using lance today! Lmao it's a really strong weapon but honestly...no weapon is trash, with the right build, you're pretty much unstoppable.

@@sefatsilverlake3816 No bro it's the evasion mantle, increases invulnerability window & temporary attack boost if u evade an attack at the last moment. Temporal mantle is a shiny yellow one that makes you dodge automatically heavy hits. You can get evasion mantle after the quest New World Sky, New World Flower (see mhwiki) that you unlock after hunting a few (it says 7) tempered lvl 2 threat monsters.
