What a man, makes you proud to call him a countryman. A salute to the ten American airmen of the Mi Amigo who gave THEIR lives to save many. May you all find eternal peace. You will never be forgotten?

Now is the time for this man to be awarded some recognition for his work. The Honour's List awards so called pop "stars" and government cronies so why not this man?

Mi Amigo was part of the 305th Bombardment Group, based at Chelveston. One can visit the graves of three of these crew at the American Cemetery at Madingley, near Cambridge. There is an annual memorial service in Endcliffe Park and later in the nearby St. Augustine's church, on the Sunday closest to the anniversary of the crash.

I didn't realise this was a 305th aircraft. There's a very good account of the disastrous raid on Schweinfurt on October 14 1943 when the 305th was all-but destroyed. The book is called 'Wrong Place, Wrong Time' by George C. Kuhl - I've read it half a dozen times! Due to poor leadership the formations were scattered and the Luftwaffe had a field day. 60 bombers shot down on the raid. Only 2 from the 305th made it back to Chelveston - one ironically was the aircraft of one of the commanders who showed very poor judgement and arguably was partially responsible for the disaster that day.

Mi Amigo's final mission to Aalborg, Denmark, was a decoy mission during the "Big Week" in early 1944, which essentially claimed air superiority for the Allies.

@@BigMrFirebird I've been to Madingley a few times, on my way to Duxford for Flying Legends - which we attend every year and it's very humbling to find the graves of young guys you have read about and how they died.

Didn’t realise this was last year until they mentioned the 74th year. Great to finally see Tony get the flypast he had wished for.

Actually, it was 75 years ago this month. 1944 to 2019 is 75 years.

David Rayner, this video was posted nearly a year ago. They have a memorial service each year by the looks of it. Go to 7:30

David Rayner “Each year the Sheffield RAF Association holds its customary commemoration on the nearest Sunday to the anniversary of the tragedy”

Ah, my mistake. I thought it was the video of the 75th anniversary fly past by the RAF and USAF on Friday morning, February 22nd, 2019.

David Rayner yeah, I did at first until they mentioned the 74th anniversary. I didn’t realise they held a service each year either.

He has grown old carrying this weight. I hope it has gotten lighter over the years. The crew would have wanted this.

I watched the RAF and USAF fly past live on television on Friday morning, February 22nd, 2019 and it was a wonderful tribute, but hardly any mention has been made of the group of children Tony was playing with on the grass when the plane flew over them to avoid them and crashed into the trees. The pilot saved their lives as well. So what has become of them after 75 years? Are they all dead by now or were they too ill or infirm to attend? Even if Tony can't remember their names, somebody would have known who they were and, after all the publicity this has been given, you would have thought that at least some of them would have come forward. Some attempt should have been made to find out who they were.
