Very common; most Atlantic beaches erode. Maryland and Delaware pump sand from offshore platforms back onto beaches that have deteriorated from storms etc.

It’s actually not from the Bahamas, I just read an article on this and there is a federal law prohibiting states from importing sand from other countries. The sand is from central Florida and costed 16 million

I live just north in Fort Lauderdale. Just about every 8 to 10 years voters approve about $15 million for “beach restoration”. Takes damn near a year to dump it, sculpt it and keep moving. It makes a HUGE difference in just overall width of the beach and the plastic free white sand from the Bahamas. It probably increases the width by 50-100 feet.

IT DOES NOT COME FROM THE BAHAMAS. I worked for the Corps of Engineers. The bill to allow importation of sand never went anywhere. All the sand is imported in trucks from central florida sand pits. you people believe anything.

I moved to Miami Beach when I had just turned 24 Little too Short a couple months after I left Nashville and I went to work there in Miami and I left with two other girls she was missed Indianapolis and one was a Playboy bunny we stayed there for 2 years I loved Miami but I had my fun in the sun and it was time for me to go and do whatever I had to do to take care of me and that's what I did. I am now 77 years of age I had my day in the Sun and I looked back on it I have no regrets I took care of all my responsibilities I loved every minute of it but I knew when it was time to move on. Somehow I always knew him to move on and I don't know how it was just I think a gift God gave me and that I will never take for granted.

Are sure? There is a Federal law banning importing sand from foreign land. I know Miami Beach was getting sand from the West Coast of Florida and Central Florida. BTW the beach on Miami Beach was widen back in the 1980s. I know cause I am from Miami Beach and saw all the drenches up and down the beach.

Essentially, all beaches lose sand either 2 ways: -Having a destructive wave, were the wave exerts more force when it moves backwards, away from the beach (backswash), than it does when going towards the beach (swash) - LSD (long shore drift), where individual grains of sand move along the beach in the direction of the prevailing wind

it did not come from the bahamas. that cost would be astronomical. I just looked it up. up until 2014 the sand was pumped back onto the beach from right offshore. Sand that has been there forever. we didn't steal it from the Bahamas. After 2014 it has been coming from sand mines in central florida.

If you look at benidorm in Spain, it has a rather thin beach with walls where all the buildings are. Basically, every night as soon as it gets dark - they are spreading more sand otherwise benidorm would be no more - as its advertised to tourists as a beach resort. Thought it was so weird when I saw the smallish truck spreading sand xD point is, importing and spreading sand is extremely common. Eventually all available sand could be eroded away by the sea, we either need to find better ways of sand management OR give up on the preservation of beaches as we currently are. The world would have likely made beaches elsewhere, but tourism is the main reason why sand importing is so widespread. It's what I learnt in Geography 😅

Fun fact ...ALL of Florida coasts are losing sand yearly. Places i grew up going swimming are now underwater bc of tourists constantly party boat traffic etc pushed the erosion to serious level and us locals are left in the remains.

It's not running out. The beach is just not being held together by foliage so it drifts further into the ocean. There's grass that you can plant in sand to stabilize it and build it back up.

Yes and when i was a kid in the 70s it used tonstartvnear the coral wall by the side walk. And the sand was not that color. It was brown woth gold flecks in it. Probably from the sahara desert. They dredged it in the early 80s and ruined the sand and replacwd it with crushed coral. It was a very flat beach and you could walk 50 yrs and it would be maybee 2 inches deep. At low tide.

I’ve actually been to the Bahamas which is actually really nice there and actually isn’t really that long away. It’s only really about I’d say 50 to 100 miles out it’s not like as far as you think it is.
