Here you see a selection of DC-8's at KMIA taken in 1991, some footage is taken from Craig's hotel room, what a great view. He was there in June and October of that year so this video is a combo of both trips.

Back in 1970 to 1973, I use to load Dc 8s, 747s, Dc10s, and 727s for National Airlines. Those were the good old days.

I can't believe there used to be trees in Miami. That's incredible! I was spotting there the other day..just a bunch of buildings and telephone poles/wires.

Loved those DC8s. Was a agent for Flying Tigers back in the day and loved going to work each and every day doing weight and balances on the 8s. One of the best freighters of the day.

A great video. Really love those '63's. Back in the day you could see 'em coming into SFO from NAS Alameda across the bay. This was a couple years before the 747 was introduced so those stretched DC-8's were really awesome.

My first ride as a passenger in a DC8 was in 1985 for Arrow Air SJU-MCO-SJU. Later in 1998 I joined the company as a First Officer then as a cargo dog. Before that I was a Flight Engineer for Rich, was glad to see that too. Thanks for posting!!

Thanks for the video. I worked and flew as flight mechanic for 10 years on DC8s in the 90's most out of MIA. That was a real mechanic's airplane. I think even UPS phased out their 70 series.

My first jet airplane ride was on an Iberia Air Lines DC-8 in October 1966 from Havana to Madrid. I was only 11 years old but I still remember it like if it was yesterday. Thanks for the memories Douglas Aircraft Co., now Boeing.

I flew on my first DC-8 from MIA-LHR in June '71 on National. It was a dash -54 or -55.

Tyler H DHL still has a DC-8 in its fleet, but with CFM-56 Turbofans instead of the JT3/JT4s.

I turned wrenches on jt3d3b for years it was a work horse of a power plant mostly dc8's in the mid 80's in burbank we had trouble getting good PRBC 'S AND COMPRESSOR STALS COULD BE A PROBLEM ! Dc8 was the queen of the air good times !

MD727 I agree! I find it disheartening that jet engines nowadays lack that unique powerful sound. I sure miss the days when sounds like these are all you would hear.

1991 was the time when most major passenger airlines phased their DC-8's out and replaced them with 757s oder wide-body airliners... - There are still DC-8 in service, the biggest operator is the american cargo airline Air Transport International with 10 aircraft.

Nice video! Since this was filmed in 1991, can I safely assume that these planes are out of service? And were they cargo planes since I don't see any windows on the side of the fuselage?

EnergeticWaves Yes. Those are turbo compressors which were used for cabin pressurization.
