Newsflash the hood never embraced BLM. I’m from Brooklyn and the South Bronx . During all those protests in NYC maybe 1% of people who actually live in the hood went to any. The protests were literally 85% white people and the few blacks who are “woke” and not actually from the hood themselves ironically . We always saw it for what it is . The helicopter landed in the school field, right on the other side of our back yard fence to pick up the ER victims of the week. It was almost a betting pool to see if it was a DO, stabbing, shooting, or some new thing. Almost always gang/drug related as that was the area we lived beside. My family was in the blue collar just getting by neighborhood, next to the low income, government subsidized housing. So I get it! That was where I walked through to get to Route 1 and work, and High School and the bus stops as a teen. I got out of there when I married my husband, but my father still lives in the same house, and it’s no better. My brothers high school valedictorian died right after she graduated, when she was hit by a stray bullet, that passed through the back seat of the car she was riding in. My husband lost a friend and his car as a teen, when he let a buddy borrow it, who drove to SE DC, and OD’d in Hubby’s car. My point to all this is I grew up in a damn similar environment, but I’m white, so in this day and age, no one will listen to me either. We were poor, mom had cancer, lost her arm to it, when I was 8, 2 years later dad was on med disability and a drunk and mom went back to school to learn to type with one hand to get work as a secretary and pay the bills. Yet I’ve been called an entitled white person. So ya, I know. But I have hope, that eventually the right voice will be load enough, that people will finally listen. I am white, 66 and when I was saying watch out for BLM that they were not on your side. I was attacked by the black people telling me I did not understand because I am not black oppressed and from the hood. No one was looking to where they were spending the money. To many wealthy supporting BLM NOT even knowing the truth. Have you seen them open a new school, store, or GIVE food and clothes. Offer up a training program so the men can learn a trade and get a good job. Have you seen them find even one artist and set them up for success?
