We've spent the last few weeks taking a look back at the turtles’ previous theatrical installments, including their trilogy of films from the early 90s, as well as the computer animated TMNT from 2007, and now we’ll be wrapping things up with the Michael Bay produced TMNT films from 2014 and 2016. There was a lot of hype surrounding the release of the 2014 TMNT, and that can be seen through the film's earnings at the box office, with it making 490 million dollars worldwide on a budget of 125 million and becoming by far the highest grossing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film to date. But, although a commercial success, the film wasn’t particularly liked by a majority of fans or critics, and this ended up having a big effect on the sequel, which went on to make around 250 million dollars less than the 2014 installment, bringing in only 240 million dollars on a budget of 135 million and, once again, being slammed by fans and critics, ultimately resulting in the franchise being put to bed. We didn’t think the films were terrible and could definitely see why some may have really enjoyed them, but I personally don’t see myself going back to watch them again anytime soon. If you haven’t seen either of the two films already, though, you should go check them out to form your own opinions on them first before continuing on with our recap, as they’ll be linked in the description below, but if you have seen them and are just looking for a quick refresher, then you’ve come to the right place.
