On the 25th August, Professor Michael Berenbaum gave a devastating lecture on the role, task and humanity of the Sonderkommando - the men who worked (if only for a brief time) in the crematoria.
Warning: This lecture is extremely confronting and may cause some distress.

Too bad no one has ever given such an in depth description of daily operation, remarks of the ss guards and survivors of treblinka. For some reason, none of the treblinka trials transcripts by the ss guards have never been published for us to study....why??

So, I think, you can look at it like this: Everybody lucky enough not to be killed in nazified Europe HAD to participate, at least to some extent, in what was happening. The guy who drove one of the trains COULD have quit his job, but was there another job for him to do? Maybe not. And food was scarce, it always is during a war. But even people who did totally innocent jobs, like an accountant, was probably helping to balance the books whose numbers helped allocate other resources for this. The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing in situations like this. When I was in my first year at uni, I had to take a sort of doing-business-in-engineering class, and I'll never forget this advice my professor gave us. He said "One day, you may find yourselves in a tough spot, legally. You've written several blocks of code that ended up contributing to a crime. You may find yourselves in court as a result. And after providing any data you're asked for, you MAKE SURE that you respond to questions of culpability by saying 'Your honour, I just wrote a few blocks of code." When I graduated, I was immediately offered a job that would have had me configuring automated weapons. It paid pretty well for a new grad. But I turned it down, ended up working as a low-income app developer for the next year instead. I don't regret that choice. It felt creepy. Here is a clip from a movie (not related to the Holocaust or war, but poignantly relevant nonetheless) that I think can help explain why these bastards were able to industrialize killing on a massive scale. Other than the "headless blunder" bit, it's pretty spot on, as far as I can see. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-boDgkH7Yw-0.html

We are getting to an age where not the survivors themselves tell the story of the camps but so called ' experts ' . I must say I have to get used to this idea, especially cos mister Berenbaum is presenting a lot of things as unique insider knowledge that have been common knowledge already for a long time and he was not there himself. Furthermore I find his story sometimes hard to follow cos it is structured rather poorly. Never the less it is a good thing that the story keeps being told to new generations.

Yes, it's good to keep the narrative, but I'm not sure what you find poorly structured about Berenbaum's lecture. It's not the most efficiently structured lecture, but how could a lecture about such things be perfectly efficient whilst also delivering a narrative with the gravity that this deserves?

I could listen to Michael Berenbaum for days on end…. This man is not only a gentleman, a scholar, and simply an Amazing human being, but he carries an enormous cross, given what his calling is. Western civilization (or anyone who chooses to listen to him) is beyond blessed to have him carrying this torch of “remembrance”.

When you click on the Settings of this video you can translate it to whatever language you want 😉 too, wow someone that doesn't have common sense 🤣🤣🤣 about the Settings how you can translate what you want to hear this in your own language 🤣🤣🤣.....
@BeckBeckGo
@BeckBeckGo 6 месяцев назад
Honestly, RU-vid should have a more robust subtitling set of algorithms in general. It’s a huge undertaking, but RU-vid is a huge platform. That being said, RU-vid CAN provide subtitles in a lot of languages. On the top right of your video (on mobile, and I think it’s near the video progress bar on web) click on the gear icon to open the video’s settings. And click on Captions. This will open a new menu that will give you an “Auto-translate” option. Click that, and you can select your preferred language from a list. I don’t use it too often, so hopefully it works for you. Edit: I just tried this in another language that I speak, and it works fairly well!

What a great presentation about the horrors of Auschwitz and in particular the sonderkommando. Mr. Michael Berenbaum is a great speaker and man were we can learn a lot from. He also talked about Dario Gabbai who he met in real life. Hopefully Mr. Dario Gabbai is in a better place with his family now, may his soul rest in peace. 🙏🏻

@BeckBeckGo
@BeckBeckGo 6 месяцев назад
@@jayo3074 yes, I believe there are still about 245k or more Jewish survivors still alive. And this number doesn’t account for the number of survivors from other persecuted groups who are also still alive. “Survivor” is kind of a contextual word, of course, and doesn’t just refer to people who survived the camps directly, but can also refer to people who were in hiding for the duration of the holocaust, evacuees, and others who are referred to as flight survivors, or indirect survivors. For example, a pregnant woman who fled a country at risk of nazi occupation gives birth shortly after arriving to safety. That newborn, as well as the mother, of course, would be considered a holocaust survivor. A baby born in 1940, who is still alive now, would only be in their 80s today.

He is a modern Clarion for moral tolerance. A fine man. And a brilliant scholar. We should never ever take our freedoms and our individuality for granted. They are natural and God given gifts. Tolerance breeds life into the moral universe. Let's help Michael continue that life.
