Many people dont know this but, this is Breckers very last album ever, which was recorded in 2006. Brecker didnt play his sax at all for an entire year, then picking up his dusty Sax, and sounding like this. This is God tier, and sadly Michael died a year after this was recorded

He says its cold here and the brass getiing cold. Sometimes we cant explain people that saxophone is an instrument which is not sounds well and not be intune in a cold room. Here is ‘paganini’ of sax says same thing.

I'm such a fan that when I met Randy all I did was talk about Mike. And I do feel bad about that since Randy is great in his own right.... But.... I'm a saxophonist....

Apologies in advance to all the Coltrane maximalists, but IMHO Michael Brecker = greatest tenor sax improviser EVER :-O

I look at it this way. Coltrane was a genius at his time, but why can't someone learn from him and have his own genius and make it better? It's all preference, but I agree.

Jazz bands used to record the whole band playing together in the studio. I don't understand why this was recorded individually. Modern times?

This way every musician can have his own ideal sound mix during the recoding. That helps the performance.

this is just overdubbing for solos, mike was known for comping together takes on recorded solos, no doubt the rhythm section recorded together before this

These things called music , smart grove swing , whatever etc , are no longer important or relevant anymore , dont deliver anything to the universe , though I m a prof musician myself , dont believe in arts , culture or poetry from mankind

Do you still believe this? If so, I don’t think it’s just to call yourself a musician. I mean no harm by saying this I just don’t exactly see any point in which your ideals match up with that of a musician. Once again I mean no harm but am genuinely confused how a professional musician could think like this, especially after hearing Brecker play. You weren’t forced into your job, were you? What exactly do you mean by “anymore”? Does that mean at one point you believed in music? What exactly does it even mean not to “believe” in music. Has relevance ever actually had anything to do with music? I don’t wish to share my opinions on this but I am curious as to what your beliefs are. Please help me understand. Edit: Just adding questions as I go.
