Keep truucha ese why would you say something so cruel? I mean seriously? He just died unexpectedly and the fact that so many ppl are conveying their feelings of sadness and heartbreak about a kind hearted man who went out of his way to engage with strangers -keeping empathy at the forefront as best he could especially with ppl he didn’t agree with at all-&you a stranger who doesn’t agree with him decides to say that it’s a good thing that his life was cut short? The fact that millions of ppl are devastated, in shock and mourning clearly- you still decide to be so cold hearted as to say good so that way he won’t vote for Bernie? Bernie’s not in the fucking race anymore and he was 100% aware of that, hence why he made the case against voting for anyone except Biden- for the sake of Democracy! It's what got through to me on the issue. I always though I couldn't take a stance because I wasn't educated enough on Israel/Palestine but you don't have to be an expert to see that what is going on is wrong
I feel the same way about the British occupation of N. Ireland. It’s not complicated, one side is being occupied, and the other side needs to go the fuck home.
This video should have millions upon millions of views. When asked about Israel and Palestine, this is always one of the first things I share. Thank you Michael. You are missed.
Me too. But the left died with him. We have only liberals left. I am a lefty Not a liberal. They Support kamala now. You don't have to Support anything. Refuse to Vote.
Perfect analogy. Michael was like a spiritual guide in my mind, and both of them were concerned with the deepest aspects of the shared human experience. Michael took it a step further and showed us how that spiritual philosophy could manifest to materially better the lives of others, not just in the US but globally. He was a light I was hoping would be with me for a lifetime.
@Paul Dalnoky If someone beloved and generally kind is angry at you (i.e. us jews), It is advised to remember he is just standing somewhere else than you, and that you can reach him by dialogue. Don't give up on those who don't understand you or your actions, enlighten them. After all, you can't expect everyone to just know what you know. I mean, it is quite the game of chance, to be born where you are born, and experience what you experience. It is the angry mob we will fight, and the angry individual we will teach.
This one aged well too. He was very clear. All these phony arguments you hear are just lazy talking points. If Mike was here he would embarrass people like Bari Weiss. PLEASE SHARE ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YLd9yOMs8QE.html
Michael should have had five more decades of intelligence and influence ahead of him. He was a thinker in the mold of Noam Chomsky. We are worse without him.
The man and his platform taught me so much about the world, we're way better for having him around long as we did too. Not trying to be contrary towards your point bc I agree with it, just positive
@@iamthatiam4496 Then you either need to put aside politics when talking about death or you're a straight up sociopath. Those are the only 2 reasons I could think why someone could be happy about this young blossoming man's early demise.
Agreed, FormerHumanX. I was just telling my partner earlier how much worse off the world is without thinkers such as Brooks. What a world, what a loss.
Yeah, and she did the classic gaslighting which he skipped over, arguing for Palestinian rights has nothing to do with whether Israel has the right to exist. He's right it's not a complex issue and it's not zero sum, but somehow these people argue that its complex but also zero sum and simple.
ANA TOOK A CRUISE IN MARCH , that is the most stupid argument I ever heard in my life. What if that was even true, are you saying that all Germans, Austrians, Hungarians, Polish, Japanese, etc... should be segregated or bombed?
This is Michael in a nutshell. Total grasp of the subject, an ability to analyse it that allows access to everyone, a summary that displays compassion, understanding and a rounded view. He not only knows what the contradictory views to his own are, he understands them. But he is able to shred them whilst displaying that understanding. All the while that irrepressible humour bubbles through. The loss is incomparable. May his spirit soar.
He clearly does not have a total grasp of the subject. To say the 1400 year conflict between Jews and Arabs is "not complicated" is naive at best. He doesn't address the reasons why Gaza is the way it is, HAMAS's human rights record (which makes the IDF look like choir boys in comparison), how/why Israel gained control of the West Bank, Palestinian terrorism, Palestinian leadership pocketing billions of dollars in aid, etc. etc.
for those reading this, whenever someone asks you about “the conflict” just send them this video and tell them how great of a human being Michael Brooks was… rest in power ✨🕊
No that was stupid. Its not about power. Weak people or states can be immoral and wrong and strong states can be moral and right. This is a huge conflation that Michael and much of the Chomskian anti western power Left tends to make. You see what Israel does when they are in power, bc they are in power and have been. If the Arabs had that power, ie if they won any of the wars fought with Israel...there would have been either a genocide, an expulsion or Dhimmitude without a doubt. That's the enormous moral gap btw Israel and it's enemies.
@@dukedematteo1995 okay, so because you apparently have the gift of soothsaying we are supposed to support a demonic fascist state with atrocity piled on atrocity underneath its belt? @@oolacilesbotnet6564 Because they openly say their goal is the destruction of Israel. That's one reason. The other reason is the way practically every non Muslim minority without protection is treated in the ME....Yazidis, Zoroastrians, Christians....actively being killed, expulsed enslaved or Dhimmied......Yet I'm suppossed to think one of the most Islamist radical populations in the Middle East, the Palestinians, would somehow buck the centuries long ME trend of crushing religious minorities, if they had all the power.....Please...Don't project Western norms of civil politcal behavior on the Middle East....its different, there's a reason no democratic countries exsist there. there's a reason Jordan doesn't want these people back.
Most pro Israel Jews preface their questions by attempting to shame fellow Jews by implying self hate or betrayal but he did not allow her. He handled that question like a champ with facts. RIP Michael.
most israeli jews who have actually lived a good portion of their life in Israel would suggest she should form her opinion from personal experience of actually living there
@John Torpey Yeah funny enough that has more to do with economics and social standing Most of the countries outside of America actually have free education and or cheaper education and thus more people are able to go into more fields that are restricted in the US by economic class and stance... it says nothing of their class as citizens, how they are treated, regulated etc.
@John Torpey Yeah because Israel bombed gaza to shit and has basically sealed off most of the land as theirs the refugees are..refugees, they’re not citizens, their not lebanon’s people they are in those camps because Israel has bombed their infrastructure to shit it’s barley livable to exist in gaza or the west bank now because of israelis bombardment occupation and sabotage it’s genocide by proxy. Also again the democracy is held to a higher standard than the dictatorship or monarchy or whatever and the democracy is and has been proven by numerous international human rights groups to be participating in apartheid No one ever said “hey maybe we here at auswhitz are bad, but look at the Japanese Burma camps and english prisoner slave labour, that’s worse, so we’re not so bad eh?”
Smart , intellectually honest , a brave and very funny man right here. Gone way too soon but we are all only here for a short while. Rest in Paradise... 🙏🙏🙏
Exactly why they keep pushing the religious narrative because somehow Muslims are hated and are seen as terrorists even though that’s not true lol pure propaganda how convenient
I had to come back and watch this after this week. With all the craziness I'm seeing in the media and the complete disregard for Palestinian humanity I needed to hear someone as incredible as Micheal cut through the bs.
I am an American Palestinian, and I feel our voice is not connected to the world; in a sense, every atrocity and oppression against us is justified as we are criminals, but thanks to this man and his followers to show us that humanity still exists.
there is no such thing as american palestinian. but there is palestinian american. i will explain. an african american is a coloured person (could be white as well), which original roots are found in Africa. an american african would be a person, living and having its base somewhere is Africa, but having its roots somewhere in the US. and those people are very very few. so you are suggesting that you are an american, where your roots come from, but based in Palestine. it would be interesting to know, when the first palestinians (if thats what you wanna call it) immigrated into the US. i can guarantee, that that did not happen before 1930, so in before 90 years. in that case, one can hardly speak of any real american roots.
@@MHP602 that would be correct, but you realize what a huge difference it makes, when you state it wrong, even if you might not have realized it yourself
This is so true! Michael also said in a debate about Israel and the actions of the state that "reasons are not justifications" which, also, is pretty simple, clear but 100% on point! But you're right, I see that too! Every time one talks about the hundreds of dead people in Gaza for example another person says "Hamas" and the next "human shield" They're never just human beings!
To this day, I cannot think about Michael Brooks without becoming deeply sad that he was taken from us. He was such an incredibly consistent and powerful voice for justice. Rest in power, King.
Empathy, humanity, intelligence, thoughtfulness, this is what the world needs more of today, we lost a significant source of all of those factors when Michael ceased to be among us.
I think the problem is how those qualities (empathy, humanity, thoughtfulness, etc.) aren't put into direct action, and direct action is barely ever called for in the name of those values. Instead, these qualities are expected to simply emerge in vague ways, and the opposing values are the ones manifesting through direct action.
Jack Boot Also if you were actually of high intelligence, you would know better than to talk about something you have just said you are lacking in, you’ve already declared yourself ignorant. That’s the literal opposite of intelligence. People who are actually intelligent rarely have to declare or announce it.
@Jack Boot It would depend on whether the boarder was riding the halfpipe safely, and how well the woman and child knew the boarder. Some really interesting questions though. I'll have to resign before you checkmate me.
@Jack Boot Yeah. I thought the lawmaking, and citizenry chapters in Rousseau's social contract were all predicated on that simple-minded absolutist 'good', but that wasn't long after my head injury. At that point I put it down, and picked up 'The Prince' by Niccolo Machiavelli. It was only then I discovered that societies must be ruled with more cruelty than mercy. Thanks for the reply bro.
RIP Michael Brooks. The world needs many Michael Brooks who can simply convey such factual commentaries free of any biases. Michael’s integrity, honesty, and his commentary & reasoning were spot on fact and brought simple understanding to several Middle East complex topics.
Michael Brooks is the LAST person I would want to die young. Unbelievably tragic. I pledge to spend my life trying to be as good and as smart as Michael. I want to soak in and spread his wisdom. That's all I can do. Incredibly sad that he's gone but the fact that he was able to touch us, even for such a short time, is incalculably valuable.
The moment I found out that Michael Brooks had died, I felt physically ill. It was as if I’d lost one of my favorite professors, even though we’d never met. Listening to him, I had learned so much about the world. Back in 2018, he was kind enough to retweet a course assignment review of his show, which was my favorite podcast. I haven’t watched a full episode of The Majority Report since the memorial episode after Michael’s passing. It doesn’t feel the same. 2020 was already rough enough, but it took from us one of the greatest minds on the Left. It really isn’t fair. But with prescient videos like this, he continues to speak to us. Dearly missed!
One of the greatest minds. Greatest hearts. Not on the left, but utterly outside of any manufactured binary. I’m not coming at you, btw, your comment is beautiful. This is just my 2023 thoughts. ☮️
@@zoo3708 May be you should never try to learn from dumb idiot in the first place. This man is lying. He is factually incorrect and he is one sided. Terrible that someone can miss that bs.
@@charleswyllie426 No, you can check the facts, but real facts, not fake interpretations, just double check it very deeply and then you'll see that my argument is very close to the reality. This horrible dumb person and I've seen many like this in Israel, is lying almost as breathing. 0:10 he makes laugh of a question, putting accent about the particular tweet or tweets, while trying to ignore the essence of the question. This technique is used later frequently in all of the BS he is trying to spread. 0:18 he admits his jewish background, while still trying hard to portrait a person who asked the question about it as a complete idiot. Then he says he like - against racism. Then he says it's childish to have ethno-state, but in the same time pretending he doesn't know that arabs are trying to create the state where jewish are not allowed to be. Which is by definition a racist state. Then at 3:15 he says "some actions of some groups" while he well knows that it is official policy of authorities of so self called 'pallestinians'( as term was invented by ussr guided propaganda) and encouraged as much as they can. He lies using shift of accents, presenting constant terror as a small actions some times. He perfectly knows that they are 'small' and 'sometimes' because they are prevented by Israel military forces and this is the only reason why they are 'small'. And he also says 2003, and he does that intentionally presenting it like nothing was happening before while he perfectly knows how 'small actions of some groups' look like when they were not prevented in 2001 by Israel security forces: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolphinarium_discotheque_massacre They blew up kids intentionally in discotheque and the target was perfectly calculated. His lie goes on and on, Then he uses incorrect propaganda terms like occupation, and apartheid, should I specify each of the lies? Because if a person can't think then I doubt I can help and honestly if you can't think, then yes, take my word for it, because I can, and I've seen those propaganda idiots personally and I know where they lie and how they lie and why they lie and who pays them to lie. So yes, I guess you can take my word for it for now until I write a book about it and how to resist to this stupid propaganda bs machine.
Revisiting this video because of what is happening... We could use Michael's voice on this issue right now. He was one of the best and is greatly missed. It will forever be a shame that his life was cut short. I would have listened to or read anything he did for the rest of his life. ❤ RIP Michael Brooks
He says multiple times “it’s really simple”. This is terrible analysis. It’s incredibly complex. He avoids the question which is- what do you do when an equally genocidal regime (Hamas) is finally given power? Then Jews will perish. I love Brookes but he’s not nuanced on this
@@ukulayme2okay but "why" was Hamas given power do you think? We've seen it in history time and time again. When people feel down trodden they will turn to some charismatic person or organization that plays into their narrative. After they get the power all they need to do is make things slightly better and blame some outside force to keep their momentum. And it certainly doesn't help when said outside force reinforces their claims. Hearts and minds must be won in order for this to finally end. Blowing both to smithereens will only ensure this cycle will continue.
@@ukulayme2You're creating a Ben Shapiro like hypothetical, it will never happen. The only reason why Palestinians defemd or even support Hamas is because they are the only ones who have survived pushing back. It's meaningless revenge violence but it's all they have. Hamas wouldn't be nearly as popular if Palestiniens basic human rights were fulfilled and they could live without settler terrorism and constant airstrikes as well as access to clean water. Also I'm guessing you're thinking of a 2 state solution or what? Personally I don't think that would work, as you can see Palestinians and arab jews (any kind of minority tbh) are like 2nd grade citizens there
@@floepiejane seems to me that stupid people always call this issue simple because they need it to be. if Israel doesn’t fight Hamas, then Hamas will try to commit genocide. They are both trying to commit genocide. Pretending that it’s not complex is just stupid.
An amazing thing about Michael is how far ahead of his time are his thoughts and the ideas he conveys. Not only evergreen, but also so perceptive as to almost predict what will become important. It's uncanny. With the wealth of material available, it's like he's still here to advise us, we need only listen.
Just wanted to hear him on this topic, after i heard he passed away. There's nobody who could or will answer in this way ! Great loss to America and Left in general.
Seriously? This is one of the typical dumb answers and I heard many similar where complexity of the situation is oversimplified by people who fail to think. You have wasted your time and so did I by listening to this idiot.
Seeing so many people viewing this in the last few days is bittersweet. We all miss his wisdom and humanity. I'm sure he would be saying these same words today. Why did he have to leave so soon?😭 Rest in power, Michael.
I still remember the night I heard of his passing. I had been binging his interviews and his shows only a few days prior and it just didn't feel real to hear he had died. Thank you Michael Brooks, for all of your knowledge, empathy, analysis, encouragement, and infectiously positive outlook on the world. I will continue fighting to ensure this world sees the peace, justice, and prosperity he envisioned
That young woman who is asking the question sounds like a sincere uneducated brainwashed person. Brooks is so kind to her by just educating her with sprinkling the facts on her.
You summed up exactly how I feel about the person to whom Brooks is responding. At first I sensed she was perhaps being disingenuous; then the tone set in and it became clear she was simply parroting talking points re: Israel & Palestine that she'd heard from others. He handled this like the scalpel that he was, as opposed to all the ham-handed bludgeons in media. edit: god I'm really going to miss hearing his new commentary every morning. D;
Yea, imagine being brainedwashed into thinking that a century's long conflict could be "seen as more of a complex issue". How dare she not mindlessly take the side of the group with the least power.
@Tachanka Main And there you have it folks, the true face of 'progressive' anti-Israel sentiment. Scratch 2 inches beneath the surface and you'll find out why It's not complex, because [insert barrage of antisemitic tropes].
What an incredibly knowledgeable, intelligent, and compassionate guy. Hadn't heard about him until today. So sad to lose such a bright mind. Glad he was able to have the impact he had (and will continue to have).
Like with Anthony Bourdain, I always end Michael's videos simultaneously smiling that we had him and angry we lost him too soon while Cheney and Kissinger are still alive.
I watch this with tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. If we had someone like him as prime minister of Israel, and one of the many Palestinian creative thinkers and scholars on the other side, there would be peace in 5 minutes, and an end to the unnecessary deaths of every child, mother, and father that has sadly perished at the mercy of the extremists on both sides that have no modicum of humanity or fragment of tolerance. What a shameful world we have created for our children.
