I think he does that because, as you can hear in the beginning of the video, he was using live autotune at this point in his career, and he wanted to show he didn't need it. I would prefer if he just didn't use it all.

Light and can reach higher noted than a dramatic baritone. and "baritones" not having power is completely false. all operatic singers sing without microphones. it's pure technique and understanding resonance and your vocal track. don't comment if you don't know what you're talking about.
