Michael started out as a freelance calligrapher specializing in Irish script,
until his first encounter with the Book of Kells sparked what would become a
seven-year self-apprenticeship in the methods, a career in Celtic Art, and a
lifelong passion. In Michael’s talk he will unravel how early medieval artists
developed key patterns and show examples of their work. In addition to his
talk Michael will also give a workshop on Saturday on Knotwork and Key
Pattern Grid Construction which will present a hands-on demonstration of
these new concepts and ancient techniques.
