The former police officer detailed working during the crack epidemic and how he transitioned into being a rogue cop, which included taking drugs and money from people on the street that he busted.
Dowd detailed select moments from his career which included having a hit placed on him and confronting the guy who ordered it. From there, Dowd talked about his venture into being a dealer himself.
He also spoke about getting arrested along with his partner, who wore a wire and cooperated with the feds, and Michael spoke about getting sentenced to 14 years in prison. To hear more, including Ben Stiller making a movie about him, hit the full interview above.

This man stood on his ten, he had a core set of principles he stood by, not aligned with either side, but internal and he is comfortable sharing his story right or worng. Now look at a politician or cop always movign the goal posts. By doing that you actually cannot determine how far they will move it if they were feeling extra emotional that day. integrity cannot be run off emotions, otherwise it has no stable foundation.

Captivating. Ironically it is appealing due to Dowd’s accountability and frankness. Besides, I lived in NEW YORK CITY the first 55 years of my life and witnessed East New York as virtually being a war zone during the period Mike described. With so much crime and corruption it’s easy to understand how a young cop can get entangled. Make a few unwise decisions and you can get yourself in knee deep with little room for escape. I don’t necessarily think he’s a sociopath, all I see/hear is an old school NYC dude. Loud, assertive, confident and says whatever is on his mind to whomever, without hesitation. NYC is an exhilarating, vibrant and intoxicating place. The city that never sleeps because it’s almost as if the city itself is on drugs, an infinite mainline of high grade cocaine and 1990’s era extacy (when they were called “rolls”) flowing directly into its infrastructure. I don’t think it’s possible for someone born and raised there to possess, in the slightest, any timid or subservient characteristics/tendencies. If I’m not mistaken, this guy started abusing drugs and alcohol which eventually turned more towards the addictive/problematic side. Maybe he did this due to the guilt he felt from his actions. A true sociopath just flat out wouldn’t give a shit. Just my unwarranted opinion. I will say, once you step into that life, especially robbing and selling large quantities of cocaine, it becomes a dog eat dog world very quick. Survival of the fittest. Damn, I didn’t intend to write such a long comment. Apologies for rambling.

Well, there is definition of a sociopath, so it really isn't open to opinion. As far as he being a loud, confident New Yorker, you should watch his interview on Soft White Underbelly. He tells a lot about himself as he entered the force. He was not a confident guy. He was scared as hell. Anyone who likes this guy's story HAS GOT to hop over to Soft White Underbelly.
