I don't know if that's accurate.. in fact the show tries to say that Nathan Dean Parsons character Max is Michael's kind of brother think of it is it's more like he's his father. But whatever but notice how when he says you are my family Michael he didn't say you're my brother or whatever because he always felt responsible for Michael. It's a foreshadowing that people really didn't see coming.
