I just discovered this amazing man of God, who, wonderful for his sake, he’s now in the presence of the Ancient of Days. What a time Dr Heiser must be having as he walks and talks with Jesus…All mysteries gone. I look forward to learning so much more on his teachings. 😇
Ever since I saw you on Skywatch, I've been an attentive listener! Keep teaching YAHs word. As many Blessings you have brought, may you be blessed a hundred fold!
@@looking4thepast09 I believe its been longer than that! But the whole skywatch family, Derrick and Sharon, Gary S., Steve Q., Timotjy, A., L.A., and on, have been my guide throught this world as I tried to understand the scriptures.
@@looking4thepast09 I can't often, but skywatch usually has great deals at christmas time. Like a ton of books and it's all different authors and even dvd s. I got a huge pkg for 35. Theres 4 different shows that Gilberts have alone. I wish I could attend T. Alberinos Birthright conference coming up. Maybe one day! Blessings to you.
Fascinating intro comments. I'm so glad that the Scriptures teach us that it was the Holy Spirit who gave inspiration and inerrancy to what was written, and it wasn't left to the academic or other flesh-inspired literacy or the human logical reasoning of John. Yes, God used humans to convey the God-breathed Word. Yet what they all wrote became for us the inspired Word from God
Extremely brilliant, especially from one who admittedly doesn't 'know much about the end times'. I think I heard you say that once. Love it when persons say frankly 'I don't know'. So many preachers ranting, raving, asserting that 'the Bible makes it quite clear' when it is not clear at all.
Thank you for sharing this important information on the gospel and helping us to properly interpret the Book of Revelation! Peace and love to one and all from our Heavenly Father God Aheyeh, through His Son our Messiah Yehsheyeh!!!
Fantastic! Thank you for actually sitting down with Dr. Heiser and making a video series that is not only full of great information, but is long enough to really break it down and examine the subject at length. As many people have said, Dr. Heiser breaks down the scriptures in a way that you don't get from most sources, and unlike most people who go beyond the standard (shallow and mundane) exposition of scriptures, you never get the sense that he is distorting or corrupting scripture to make his point, or to change the meaning of the word of God for his own purposes. Dr. Heiser just seems to want to show us how to understand the truth of the scriptures as they WERE understood in the past, and as we should be able to understand them now. Nothing I have seen or heard his say changes the message or meaning of the scriptures, he just helps give us a better knowledge and understanding of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. While I would not point a seeker to Dr. Heiser as a starting point, if you, or if you know someone who was like I was before I was saved; someone who is stupified by modern materialistic humanism, Neo-darwinism and the erroneous idea that the Bible was something derived from the primitive mythology of a bunch of ignorant goat hearders, then Dr. Heiser may be a good source to show that person that you can drill down into scripture to find not only are there no glaring errors or inconsistencies in them, but they consistently reveal profound depths of meaning and the truth of how our world is actually based in a spiritual and supernatural reality. And he does it in a clear, logical, and straightforward exposition of the DEPTHS of the Truth and Wisdom in the Bible. Dr. Heiser's work in explaining how the spiritual realm has been involved in the world from Eden to the end is something that needs to be better understood in these times than it is currently. His lectures on this reality has allowed me to understand the prophecy, events, and history in the Bible in a far more profound and fundamental (pun intended) manner than I could have otherwise. Jesus Christ is Lord, call on Him, and you will be saved! Amen! 🙏✝️🙏
I just looked into the name of your website, obviously math is not my strong suit otherwise I would have recognized it. Very subtle and cryptic of you, contrasting the most beautiful mathematical formula to the emotionally loaded word "crisis". All the seers in scripture have known this crisis of seeing and being rejected. "A wise man will hear and increase in learning, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel, to understand a parable and an enigma, the words of the wise and their riddles" prov.1
Thank you, I love this series. I understand how from a scholarly perspective this could be considered messy but I don't see it that way. I also don't give John the credit in deciding to loop in all of the assorted OT passages. I see this as John's eyes being opened as to all of this fits together and he is just giving us the finished product in a compressed file format.
I think you're slightly misunderstanding him. I think it's the very beginning of part 2, the next video, he addresses this common question he was getting. The short version is John saw what he saw. But he wasn't writing during the visionary state. He, at some point, puts the vision down to writing. This is where he filters what he sees through the scriptures. He words things in ways to bring to mind specific passages of scripture.
@@EulersIdentityCrisis I understand. Sorry I think I managed to remove a previous comment. I went and downloaded the transcripts for this series. One of the things that is truly amazing is how Dr. Heiser was able to "stay in his lane" through what I've covered so far. This is of value to everyone regardless of eschatological view.
Thank you Michael. I am really enjoying this very helpful series. Joke warning: It occurs to me that a vaguely appropriate etymological English translation of Nicolaitan might be "Munchkin" - "one who eats people".
Love this. Nerding out. I can answer the question as to why John throws so much “in a blender.” It’s bc John knows the scriptures and John is using what he knows to make sense of what he is seeing. I love Heiser but he never uses the supernatural as his reasoning. It’s bc he’s a doctor and he writes and teaches in a way that even non believers can’t refute. But that’s definitely why. There’s a lot going on that really don’t have adequate words. Therefore you get an amalgamation of scripture and symbolism.
I think it’s in the next set of videos but Heiser says basically the same thing. I think I replied to some comments with his quote in some other replies.
@min. 46:29, John wasn't blind to the future as to what would befall his people, and the many uses of Isaiah in his book seems mysterious when it comes to the Dead Sea Scroll ( DSS ), where as Isaiah being the most unharmed manuscript of our end time, or I should say, Isaiah is a road map for the Israelites to ponder. God bless you on your journey!!!
If two different people see the same things and under inspiration of the same Spirit give similar descriptions, that does not mean one of them was pulling from the writings of the other...
That would probably be true if they were contemporaries, but if one writes much later and grew up learning from the writings of the first writer, more than likely the second is actually pulling ideas from the first in order to describe the same things. That's just what I would think.
@@tmcobb1888 If I was called up to the throne of God, the awe that would overcome me would prevent any thought of "how did someone else describe this?" I'd just be describing what I saw.
That makes sense. But I'm still thinking about the fact that most young Jewish men were required to memorize the Torah by the age of 12. The words of the prophets would've been practically ingrained in his DNA. Just saying. It's an interesting line of thought though.
The 7 spirits of God are named and identified in isaiah 11. They are also described in detail in proverbs as well as identifying thier purpose and how they work.
Isn't the book of Revelation dictated to John via His angel, therefore the words we read would be and as I believe the very words of Christ. That is vitally important in my mind and changes the way I attempt to interpret it. Additionally, it is without question a game changer when we get in the presence of the Lord. I mean when we are experiencing Holy Spirits tangible presence.
And also the Nikolaitans. You don't think the word ( also) means something in contrast? If also is used to continue a thought it would continue to be descriptive of actions. But also is used to separate two names. Baal and Nikolaitans. I heard someone describe them as a teaching and practice of a priest that goes between the people and God. There are some very large, influential religions like that today.
My biggest disagreement with Michael, or any other scholar, on the subject of how John wrote the book of Revelation, is when they claim that John borrowed or used illusions or was referring to different parts of the Old Testament when he wrote the book. John, at the very beginning of the book at at the end, says very plainly that he recorded the things that he both heard and saw in the visions he was given. To say otherwise is to call John a liar. He doesn’t leave the option open that he himself constructed the book using symbolism he carefully picked from the OT in order to craft a coded story that his readers at that time would comprehend. This view denies John’s own words that he wrote what he was shown.
Heiser interacted with this thinking in a later episode (somewhere in the next video I think). The short version: John had to write down the revelation at some point. He sees the things sure. But it's not on video. At some point he sets down to write it and when he does he's influenced by the way Daniel or Ezekiel, etc, wrote about it. No one is calling John a liar.
@@EulersIdentityCrisis I would still say that is bad reasoning to think that. The evidence in scripture is that John wrote what he saw and heard, some times at the moment. Example: “….When he cried out, seven thunders uttered their voices. Now when the seven thunders uttered their voices, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, “Seal up the things which the seven thunders uttered, and do not write them.” John is seeing and hearing things and is writing while the vision is happening.
@@onehappydawg "John is seeing and hearing things and is writing while the vision is happening." But even that isn't incompatible with what Heiser is saying. What Heiser would object to is pure dictation. But if John was writing, in the moment, what would amount to notes, he could still come back later and fill it out. That second stage would be where he begins weaving in OT allusions. But we can agree to disagree. My only concern would be 1) at least in the case of Heiser or Beale, they aren't calling John a liar. 2) don't let their views distract you from the observations they make.
@@EulersIdentityCrisis No they are not coming straight out and calling him a liar, but by their putting forth the idea that he is borrowing from or making allusion to the OT, they are in fact saying that he did not see and hear everything he says he heard and saw. I’ve listened to Michael for years and I’ve even listened to all of this video, that doesn’t change the fact that I believe he was wrong and I think every scholar is wrong to assume, because that is what they are doing, that John did not in fact just write down what he heard and saw. I really don’t know why it is that hard to comprehend. What it shows is that God, in giving visions to prophets, is consistent with His symbolism throughout the Bible. That is the simplest explanation of why John doest directly quote the OT like Michael points out. He says it’s an obvious thing that the book is different than others in that regard.
@@onehappydawg I understand what you mean. It is very much possible that John didn't purposely make the connections, but the connections were built into the prophecy. However let's not also forget that the Holy Spirit brought the Apostles into remembrance of scriptures as well. So it could also be true that while John was writing the Holy Spirit brought remembrance/parallels from the O.T into John's mind. Also John is also a Jew and would have a working knowledge of the Torah and when he has the vision his knowledge connects to these ideas. I would say the phrasing used is wrong in the way he is delivering it, but no one is perfect. I come here because I want the connections revealed to me. GOD works with imperfect men. I wouldn't say his INTENT is to make John a liar as much as it is to reveal the connections. There is also a form of creative license as well. Each writer has their own way of structuring the writing for example.
Although Brother Michael is no longer with us on earth, my question is; why can't The Revelation of Jesus Christ be scripted as exactly how John saw it in the Spirit? Revelation 4:2-5 NKJV [2] Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. [3] And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald. [4] Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads. [5] And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices. Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God. I recognize that John will draw on Old Testament Writings from Daniel, Ezekiel, Zachariah, etc. but do not believe all of Revelation is a draw-on Old Testament Writings.
He more or less addresses this in the next part (Chapter 4). John wasn’t writing while in the vision. At some point he comes out of the vision then sets to writing what he saw. It’s during this process he filters what he saw through OT language.
@@EulersIdentityCrisis thank you for the prompt reply! I will listen on the next episode. I guess, in my humble opinion, John is drawing-on exactly what he saw in this particular chapter and verse(s). Collecting wording from the OT to articulate what he saw is plausible. It just seems that this vision is very specific to "The Revelation of Jesus". Thanks for listening and I Love your work and Brother Michael.
You explain the trinity so well that I wonder from were do the Jesus only people get their theology? I gave family members in a church like that, Can Anybody that knows can tell me please
All the book of acts baptisms were done as recorded 4 or 5 times, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Not in the name of the father, son, and holy spirit. So they decided there is only Jesus. It is helpful to stick to just 2, father and son, like Jesus praying to his father in the garden. That can get through to some. Once they admit 2, going to 3 is easier. I've known some....extremely legalistic and superior minded.
This is a revelation given John by Jesus and the Holy Spirit; he expressly states this fact. John is the scribe. The illusions are for readers to study.
I’ve greatly enjoyed a few of Heiser’s books, and he has a fine mind. But…one thing I’ve consistently noticed about him, through the course of many speaking engagements, is his almost flippant disregard for prophetic Scripture. His approach is grossly peculiar, and almost perfectly reflects the disregard from theologians that led to him writing The Unseen Realm. That he evidently doesn’t see the parallel is astonishing.
He doesn't hold the many systems of prophetic interpretation with much reverence as they tend to ignore the scriptures that don't fit their particular beliefs - rather he believes that when the time is right we will realise what they mean which will confirm our faith in God and his sovereignty.
I wish I could join without giving money. I want to say that I’m so grateful and so saddened to know that this beautiful human is leaving us. I’m so saddened to see that everything is always surrounded by money! Why is money such a stupid way to get those to follow. Makes me question. What about those who can’t afford but want this information? Grateful nonetheless.
Peace and love be with all in Jesus Christ Ever notice many people that aren't full believers or just aren't, but say they are have a real hard time with saying the name Jesus? You can make up all the reasons of unbelief why his name isn't Jesus but it is! "Peter the apostle, the rock", was anointed as the advocate to the Jews by Christ Jesus and tells us there is only one name under Heaven that man can find salvation and that is Jesus of Nazareth Acts 4:12 Amen Paul also tells us in scripture that those who carry different doctrines than that of the bible aren't Christs sheep, to mark them and have nothing to do with them! Sadly most don't care to read the bible, "STUDY TO SHOW THY SELF APPOROVED BEFORE GOD" 2 Timothy 2:15, most prefer what men say not GOD, Christ Jesus, so why is the road narrow to life? And ye will know the truth and the truth will set you free John 8:32 AMEN

"Nicolai" not only means "one who conquers" but also "people of victory." Pergamum, which followed the Nicolaitans, had the famous altar to Zeus and Athena depicting their supposed victory, the victory of the gods of Mount Olympus over the Titans, making the gods of Mount Olympus the "people of victory," the "Nicolai," and their followers then the "Nicolaitans." Though Jonathan Cahn is not nearly so well researched and biblically grounded as our late Heiser, he is right that the gods are returning. As 2 Thes 2:7 tells us, the Restrainer has been restraining the gods since the times of the disciples until now, but He is stepping out of the way to make room for the growth of the Antichrist and his beast, the gods, to rise up from the sea of chaos and Sheol and take back the control over the world that they once held. We see allusion after allusion after allusion to this fact, especially in Rev 2 and 3 but really everywhere in apocalyptic passages. We do see a brilliant juxtaposition between the Nicolaitans and those who hold to the teaching of Balaam, yes, but my favorite juxtaposition is between the Nicolai who are fake conquerors (God is the one who locked the Titans in Tartarus, Jude 6 and 2 Peter 2:4) and the true and eternal conquerors of those of us who deny the Nicolai and worship the one true God instead, the promise of the conquerors that ends each of the 7 letters of Rev 2 and 3.
john uses obviously the OT dont be a dub. it is the covenanet fulfilled to the Jews and you must know daniel and ezekiel and the prophets. it is a prophecy. all scriptured came from theLogos. hello
Re 1.1 says "The Revelation of Jesus Christ that God gave him to show his servant what must soon take place" and Rev. 1.9 Yeshuah says "therefore write what you have seen, what is, and what will take place after this." If this is not true then none of it is. I've watched several of Michael Heisers videos on the study of Revelation. He often comments that John is pulling this from XYZ or I THINK I've even heard him make the comment borrowing from. I don't know what a dub. is but if that's what you want to believe knock yourself out. Goodbye.
Love him but even he misses enormous obvious scriptural narratives.. For example, in what way were Abraham Isaac Jacob Israel Moses Joshua and 3/4 of figure in the "Hebrew Scriptures" ever "Jews" in any way?
Here's an excerpt from Part 2 of Chapter 3 (the next video in the study) that I think will clarify how scholars like Heiser (and Beale) see this kind of thing: "When John has a vision, he’s not writing during the vision, because vision-like states (trancelike states-however we want to describe these things, they are what they are). He’s not interrupting the angel and writing things down, like a stenographer or something like this. He’s not capturing it on video. He’s experiencing something. And then after the fact, he sets it to writing. And in the process of setting it to writing, it’s going to dawn on him (either because of what he knows in terms of the Old Testament or biblical theology), or he’s going to be prompted by the Spirit of God, to make connections. And he’s going to make them."
@@EulersIdentityCrisis thanks for that. I think somehow I was aware that this is the way vision gets recorded but in conveying these things, it's easy to get lost. Thanks.
@@EulersIdentityCrisisThere is nothing in John’s writings that validates this position. You are eisegeting into the text with speculation. Heiser taught this way while he was alive about many other New Testament scripture that is heretical.
@@garyurtiaga9426 heretical such as? And there's nothing eisegetical about it. You have to read into it just as much to argue John was literally writing word for word his vision while in a trance like visionary state.
The bottom line then is that these chapters are written to the Jews who already knew the "old testament" Rather an elaborate way of saying God will clean house and recreate the earth and heaven at the appointed time. John had a lot of time on his hands to write. LOL
You do know that since almost the beginning there were multiple manuscripts and many, many different writings. Add on the translations and well --- you just keep thinking the myth of adding words.
@@urdrwho1 By grammar the difference between "Six Hundred AND Sixty six", rather than Hex Hex Hex, has caused a nationally syndicated minister to believe that the number of the beast is the number of Kenites, as listed in Ezra and Nehemiah, at the building of The Second Temple. Michael Heiser BEGAN his ministry at the reading of Psalm 82, in it's original Hebrew. Spawning "Reversing Hermon" and "The Divine Council Worldview" ministries. If you believe the warnings in the beginning of Revelation to be a myth, just how did you get HERE?
You seem to be in denial of John's own assertion that he was given this information as a direct vision from God. Its not a case of how John was "reinterpreting" old testament references and what 'he's doing with the old testament ' but rather John saw these visions from God as he said. You are making John out as a liar. If the prophets are lying and saying they are having visions from God, but are actually devising their own "interpretations " of the old testament, and the old testament prophets are doing the same then the scriptures have zero meaning and are, at best, a nice compilation of aphorisms of old men.
I think egg heads take themselves too seriously and make scripture way too hard for themselves. As for me, I'm doing just fine without High Dollar interpretation of methods or means of Jesus' disciples as they brought us the gospel. Plus, I just get a headache.
By "high dollar" interpretation, do you mean looking back at the Old Testament from where the New Testament and Jesus have their context? Cause that's really all this is doing. If you have a problem seeing Jesus in the Old Testament and understanding why that's important, maybe a cheapened interpretation is what you have. If you're proud of your cheap interpretation that costs little to nothing (I mean in time and study) I guess you'll get out of it what you put in. Study to show yourself approved, or not.. its your relationship with God.
You're very logical most of the time, so I suspect that there's a theological reason for your not connecting the Nicolaitians to the deacon Nicolas. The Spirit should be quite upset with you, but you can repent of course.
Paul is the false apostle who taught to eat meat sacrificed to idols and fornication which is lawlessness 1 Corinthians 10:25 Eat whatever is sold in the meat market Ephesians 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; 2 Timothy 1:15 You are aware that all who are in Asia turned away from me,
Paul is Jezebel! He preached against Circumcision, and called everyone concerned about eating food sacrificed to idols weak. That's plain as day in his letters. Can't people read!
Brother it seems you can't read. Paul said gentiles didn't need to become Jews, a.k.a become circumcised. It was always about the heart. He also says don't eat meat with the living blood in it, (creature that is not dead), which a part of the LAW. He goes on to say don't eat food sacrificed to idols i.e. false gods. Don't be sexual immoral.
I like Mike's teachings but I strongly disagree with this teaching. Yeshua NEVER once claimed to be God, Furthermore explain 1 Cor, 15: 28, where it says that when Yeshua delivers the kingdom up to God, that he will be subject unto He who put all things under him.
He did state He was God. But if you doubt that, you'll have to explain why all of His disciples died professing that He is, as well as basically all of His disciples' disciples.
