University of Miami alum and NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin on Tuesday gives us his thoughts on the state of the U and it's head football coach, Al Golden
If it's good enough for Irvin, it's good enough for me! He is arguably the greatest Cane in history! It's been tough, but let's play it out folks! GO CANES!!!
I have a choice between listening to an all time great, a person who has earned great respect from his play and his work as a football analyst or a bunch of people who live in their parents basement. I think I'm sticking with Irvin. I agree. One more year to turn it around.
We were ranked as high as 5th last year? From that moment you can tell Mike doesn't even watch his Alma Mater anymore. We haven't been ranked 5th for a dozen years. And that freshman quarterback that he used as an excuse was the best player we've had under center in a decade.
Notice he says "one more year". Lol.... Yeah I'm cool with that, but this has to be Al's make or break season. Minimum of 10 wins next season or Al has to go. I actually don't mind Al that much as a HC, but how coach D still has his job is a mystery to me. I hope they listen to A. Chick and finally figure out that the 3-4 defense at the U is garbage...
sotampacane Al calls it a "hybrid 3-4". Whatever it is, it does not work consistently enough. It seems to me that it bounces back and forth from a 3-4 to a 4-3. Or they will line up in a 3-4 and bring another guy to the line just before the ball is snapped. Either way, it hasn't been working and it needs to go...
MJBB33 Thanks. I have not noticed them playing a 3 man front as McCord and Chick were seemingly always in the game. The defense was significantly better this year but it seems that is comparing itself to two years of just atrocious play. But overall, being ranked 15th in yards per game and top 20 in points allowed still means something
sotampacane Our defensive alignments against Nebraska, Louisville, and GT still have me scratching my head. A pop warner coach knows better than that, but somehow coach D didn't know this??? Four down lineman on a goal line stand??? Are you kidding me??? They said afterwards that the line backers were supposed to "fill in the gaps" but these guys were not crowding the LOS, instead they were 5 yards deep in the endzone. This is totally unacceptable and D coordinators have been fired for less than this inexcusable gaff. I also heard rumors from people close to the program that starting with the Cincy game, that Al Golden had to take over defensive play calling duties from D'nofrio.
I give Mike some credit, he at least care and talk about the program. I just disagree with him on Golden. Golden has to go. Golden got six wins with two of the six being Arkansas St. and Florida A&M. This team was picked to win the ACC Coastal division. Rob Chudzinski should be offered the job. Remember he was the OC during the glory days when Ken Dorsey was the QB.
Al Goldren Had Them Up To #5 And Where Did They Finish? Irvin Must Not Have Saw The Virginia Or Georgia Tech Game. And Al Goldren Is Getting Recruits Attention But Questions Of They Can Actually Develop Into An NFL Star. Miami Is Not Even Winning The State Or Miami. Al Goldren Is An Good Coach But As If Head Coach He'll Be Better Off Coaching An MAC, C-Usa, Or Whatever Confense Temple And Memphis Is In.
Love and respect Mike, but his thought process on keeping Golden is short minded and will only embarrass our beloved U ONE MORE YEAR. The man simply CAN NOT COACH @ this level.........great salesman, horrible, hard headed coach!
