STORYLINE:
Michael Jackson made a brief appearance at an orphanage in a Tokyo suburb on Sunday.
As Jackson's motorcade passed arrived at the orphanage, dozens of adoring fans rushed the black and silver van in which Jackson and his entourage were travelling.
The van's dark tinted windows prevented most people from seeing the famous pop star's face.
At the back entrance to the orphanage, curious fans perched themselves along the outer wall in the hope of catching a glimpse of the star.
An audience, including 160 orphans ranging from 3 to 18 years of age, gathered in the orphanages gymnasium to welcome Jackson.
The audience reacted with great enthusiasm when Jackson uttered the phrase "I love you" in English and short while later in Japanese.
Jackson left the orphanage holding the hand of a young masked girl who rushed up an hugged him when just before he made his exit.
