People forget the 3 wasn't a normal planned shot the majority of the time.. most of MJs 3s were last minute, tough shot, rushed, double covered last ditch attempts to tie or win...so of course they didn't go in as much as someone who shoots 10+ planned 3s a game
@KeemL-w6x

exactly. MJ only had 3 seasons where he shot more than 3 3pointers per game. In those years he shot over 40 percent, with his best being 42%. Those were the years that MJ implemented the 3ball into his game. Each other season in his career he shot around 1 3 per game, usually just last second heaves but not actually good shot attempts.

That’s what I be trying to tell people. There’s a difference between not having a great percentage vs actually being able to shoot. Jordan was a great shooter but he didn’t waste his time depending on 3s and he barely shot them. When he was actually looking for the 3 he was knockdown

He'll be the greatest 3pt shooter. Seriously. He played PG for 1/5 of the season and everyone was threatened, complaining and praising him at the same time. But MJ wanted to be a 2 guard more than being a facilitator. Great video and great analysis. As a Michael Jordan fan, I hate when I hear that we don’t want to hear anything bad about Michael, because it’s not true. I have no problem in admitting that Michael took part to a three-point contest and was the worst ever in that situation. I would also love to hear the reason why LeBron James being that great of three-point shooter apparently, never even put any thought in taking part in the three-point contest in his illustrious 20 years career. And that just shows me the double standard that LeBron’s fans want to keep alive. They are the one who wants to close one or even both their eyes in front of LeBron’s flaws or shortcomings and they pick and choose everything to their own advantage, that doesn’t mean being an honest NBA fan, that’s just being disingenuous and a cheater which is not a surprise considering that it’s just LeBron’s way of conducting himself in the NBA.

@@zakkg5497 absolutely! You know, I think it’s a matter of generations, when I was young, if you disrespected anyone even just one year older than you, you could’ve gotten the beating of your life, but instead of complaining, you would understand your arrogance naivety and cockiness was being punished and you would learn respect. Today I feel they are mostly disrespectful crying babies and LeBron is their ambassador, they are too entitled with no reason and too sensitive, everything must be a given, if not the get offended and they rarely take the blame, and those are the reasons why I don’t care how skilled they seem to be on the court (mostly due to the less lenient rules in my opinion than real “evolution”), I don’t care if they think they’re stronger, just even in the 2000 very few of them would survive since the defensive players back then were much tougher and they could defend much strongly but if they think they’re the best ever, good for them, they can swim in their own selfishness and money if they want to, but history is written and they can’t erase it no matter what!

The fact is, Jordan can shoot 3's relatively easily, "WHEN IT'S REQUIRED!".... This is the difference. His mentality is different from everyone else. He only does whatever it takes to win. He doesn't care about 3 point shot statistics. If he needs points, he won't hesitate to drain a big 3 to put his team within striking distance to win the game if they are falling behind. That's his only purpose for shooting a 3 pointer, or else if the opportunity presents itself, then he won't hesitate. There is no other reason. He is all about winning above anything else. This is why he's the greatest basketball player I've ever seen play. He can beat you in a multitude of ways. He has no weaknesses in his game for the one-hundredth time!

For his career Jordan only averaged shooting 23 shots per game and only 1.7 of those were three pointers. He said in interviews when asked about the three point shot that he didn't see it as a viable way to score and that it took away from his game so he just didn't shoot them and didn't practice them. Jordan had perfect shooting form. He is the greatest midrange shooter in history and shot 50% for his career shooting predominantly jumpers which is just incredible. If he cared about the 3 he would have shot over 40%.

Jordan shot OVER 38% from three during the playoffs of the first threepeat, and 40% from three in each of those finals. Had Jordan been aware of this percentage in '92, maybe he would not have shrugged at Magic after making six threes against the Blazers in the '92 Finals. This was a guy who didn't really try to incorporate the three into his game. Which means he accomplished this feat on pure talent.

MJ started as a below avg 3pt shooter, some say even rather poor. But he worked on it until it became decent and until he was able to showcase dominance in the finals using 3pt in 92! He started as a rim attacker, yet he reached the top after becoming one of if not the most deadly mid range shooter in the game! Then since he was already well known as a scoring machine, he proved that he can do that while adding great assist making in the finals again! Player witnesses also said he started with poor handles or cannot go left, yet he again worked on those and became great handles and even making one of the most spectacular iconic shots in nba history in the finals, again! MJ evolved his game, trying to get better, absorb knowledge, and adjust to the competition to beat them. He always says "I'll take whatever the defense gives me". That means he has the complete arsenal to beat various defense strategies.

While I admit that adding the information about the three point contest, you failed to consider several factors: The way offenses operated back than and now is completely different. Back than Larry Bird (a great 3pt shooter by that eras' standards) could pass up wide open threes and no one cared, that wouldn't happen today. Defenses put much more focus on defending the 3 due to the much higher volume of attempts. The shortened 3pt line. If you only count MJ's 3s during seasons with the NBA 3pt line, he has a 3pt% below 29% in the regular season, never did the maths for the playoffs. I could think of more points, but this should be enough to get my point across. Michael Jordan was a below average 3pt shooter during his time and by TODAY'S standards it would be a weakness, but during HIS era it didn't matter.

if you WILL ONLY analyse MJ"S 3point shots --- MJ's percentage was PULL DOWN at seasons where he DOES NOT SHOOT MUCH 3's, like just one 3pt attempt per game BUT, if you will look at the seasons the attempted 3 or more, his percentage is slightly above average in short.... if he shot more in his early days... his percentage would be higher

I simply asked this: If MJ didn’t have a left, couldn’t shoot the 3, didn’t have a “bag” & yet he avg. the most ppg in NBA regular season & post season history, how? I then asked, when that same MJ came back at 39-40 yrs old, now playing against the same competition that beat up on LBJ until he joined NBA Champion & Top 75 player DWade, why was he still avg. 20+ ppg w/ no legs, no left, no 3, and against no plumbers? Silence was the response.

Jordan has 5 seasons shooting under 20 percent from 3. He has 8 seasons shooting under 30 percent from 3. He has 6 seasons shooting under 25 percent from 3. For 3 seasons he played with a shortened 3 point line and when it returned back to normal he shot 23 percent from 3. he also has the worst performance ever in the nba three point shooting contest. Lebron has made 2410 three pointers in his regular season career. he made 1,829 more three pointers than jordan in the regular season and shot 34 percent in comparison to jordan's 32 percent. so he took more and made more and made them at a better percentage. they shoot the same percentage in the playoffs only because lebron played more seasons and his performance in the 2023 playoffs while hobbled affected his percentages. lebron made 322 more three pointers than jordan and at the same percentage. so he shot more, made more and did it at a better percentage for the majority of his career. lebron is simply a better 3 point shooter. you Jordan Worshippers need to stop.

@sportstalkonly1442 UMMMM..... I must be missing something here or my math is really wrong. Last I checked Jordan only played 15 years in the NBA. 2 of which were very condensed. He came back with about 17 games left both years. So that leaves only 13 full seasons played. Where do you come up with 19 seasons?

@dwaynethomas3980 he's an idiot who is bad a math and conveniently misses that the the shot was only introduced in 79 and was viewed as a gimmick by most players. He also misses that he had some great averages in the playoffs without a shortened line. People like him need to hate on some aspect of mj because he is so vastly superior to all modern players

😂😂😂😂😂 Look jordan only won bcoz the refs helped him. The commissioner helped him. Becoz he had to sell more shoes. Thats the bottomline. It's to sell the shoes. It was like jordan bulls + refs + commissioner vs the other team. And look at the hairline of jordan, sitting beside isiah thomas. Its the same as lebrons, but people act like they didn't see it. For them, it didn't happen 😂😂😂😂 its the same hairline 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Look bill russell is the most successful NBA player, so he should be the goat. Just bcoz the guy didn't sell shoes don't mean those 11 championship mean nothing. Jordan is the most successful financially, so he should be specifically the goat in selling shoes. Not the goat of the NBA, but the goat in selling shoes.

Nothing but facts man. Wilt is the true GOAT of the NBA in my book they just made it impossible for him to win with way stricter rules and shit teammates/coaching around him. No one will ever do what Wilt did.
