One of my personal favorite rivalries, reason being... John Starks was my 2nd favorite player behind MJ from the 1991-1993 They had some crazy battles !
John Starks was deadly when his 3 was on, he could drill them even under strong pressure. Bulls Knicks 90's was some of the best basketball ever played.
I am HUGE Starks fan from Utah.. was able to finally make it to MSG IN 2019. Was almost brought to tears to see the tribute to the dunk. I was standing there in my Starks jersey that I had in high-school in 1993 in complete amazement and aww.. I miss these days of basketball 🏀
@@ДенисФедотов-к6г I am sorry I should have been more descript. There is a mural on the wall at MSG celebrating the dunk. It has pictures, the clothing starks wore, and other moriabilia.
@Böser.Stachel The 90’s Bulls never make it out of the Eastern Conference if they play in the 80’s. That 72 win team doesn’t win any more than 50 games in the 80’s. The 90’s Bulls never win a championship if they play in the 80’s.
I loved how Starks went at Jordan. Some of these guys had no chance other than getting gritty and gutty vs the greatest of all time. As much as you hated Starks you had to respect his heart and his toughness.
What i always loved about MJ is his ability to read situations and to come up with a solution for the problem. Some may call it creativity, but its more than that... Extremely fast reactions combined with Instant ideas and decission-making ... Just the Goat
Starks was astounding and just top tier. No one would respect the Bulls if they had only defeated mediocre teams. The 90s Knicks were the inheritors of "Bad Boys" hard-core basketball.
These 90s matchups make it impossible to watch the game today. This was blood 'n' guts, trench warfare, grown-man basketball. Michael was a global superstar but he took his lumps and bumps on the court...
Thankyou Starksy for being brave enough to challenge MJ to bring out the best in him. Dude had a red hot crack at Jordan. What a great duel.Everyone knew it was coming and they delivered. You don't get that type of intensity and fireworks anymore, sadly!
Although Starks did about as good as anyone ever did vs. MJ, he didn't slow the GOAT down much (playoff vs. Knicks, 1991 & 93, MJ avg. 31.8/6.1/5.5). What I like about Starks is his toughness. This is how Starks made the team (the Knicks). He tried out for the team, tried to dunk over Ewing in practice (Ewing slammed him down), and made an impression on Pat Riley. Unlike most of the NBA, Starks was not afraid of MJ. I personally think it made MJ an even better player! Starks is a legend among Knicks fans.
5:39 Jordan and Starks. When was the last time you saw 2 NBA players running up the court at that speed(looking like Track and Field 100m). In todays NBA never, they don't work this hard.
As kid I used to get upset with Marve Albert because he always saying yesss for Jordan when he scores and calls everyone else on the Knicks by their last name
At the 3:07 mark. I noticed something very telling about the Pippen/Jordan relationship that's causing today's strife between the two. Namely Pippens ongoing resentment regarding their past Era together. On that break-away steal by Pipoen.. Why did he not take it to the basket for the easy dink himself? Instead he passes the ball to Jordan forcthe easy dunk. Hmmmmm. That single play tells me a lot about Pippens regrets regarding their playing time together...
Jordan was too big, too strong and too fast for Starks to handle. But, he did play his heart out. Riley put too much pressure on him, trying to make him the first option in the playoffs. Should've doubled and denied Jordan the ball. Make someone else beat you. Ewing first option and Starks second option.
I remember watching these games.. used to feel sorry for starks. Most of the time while jordan was on his was to 30+ points, starks could not buy a bucket.
@@MS-ns2pj You are correct. My memory is cloudy, but I sure remember it being a great series. Starks choked at the end of the last game by missing nearly every shot.
Starks had no fear. I can tell you this I had front row seats at Garden and Jordan was no joke Starks was good but MJ was great and he had to be because Starks didn't let up. Those was great times. It was wonderful. All games was entertaining. I miss it
Man those were the days as a old knick fan if john starks was steph curry the knicks would have owned the 90s but i will always appreciate everything starks did to try to help ewing get to the top it just wasnt in the cards. Even if the outcome would be the same i would take a time travel game to watch this rivalry all over the game vs this nba today. Most would agree lebron vs the warriors in the finals or knicks bulls knicks pacers knicks heat im taking all those trips over this current era
